That is Difficult to say.
Sure, BT is Evil Incarnate to some people in Government. And they would be all for a Public Stoning if they could get 60 Votes to do it.
But BT also brings in a Lot of Tax Revenue. As well as Halliburtons packed to gills with Federal Reserve Notes for those running for Election/Re-Elections. So a Lot depends on Who is the HHS Secretary? And Who is running the FDA?
I question how much BT buying a Minority Share in juul could hurt juul? And I see how BT's Legal/Regulatory Expertise can/will Help JUUL as we move into a Fully Regulated Market.
What effects this may have to the average Non-JUUL vaper? That's Debatable.
I don't think it will hurt them at all. It should help them tremendously, actually. It also could help bring them favor with legislators (money talks, bulldong walks), giving them even more power over a market they already have a significant slice of.
Eventually we may see a market very close to what we see with smokes. Everything looks the same, vapes the same, and only minor differences between products A and Z. We'll see. I hope I'm wrong, but to be dead honest - I don't really care. I know what I'll be vaping until they put me wherever they're going to put me.
Could be an interesting ride to watch though. We'll see.

I Don't think there is much Question about it. The Only Unknown in My book is how soon this will happen?
None of it is going to Effect me. Because I took the steps to Ensure that Nothing the Government does will effect my Vaping style. But I Do Care Very Much About it.
Because I would like to see Ever Smoking who can't quit to have a Similar Opportunity as I did using an e-Cigarette. And that, to me, is something that has become Lost in the Narrative.
I'm thinking that's an unlikely scenario. We were all fortunate enough to stumble in on vaping's Golden Age. As market penetration increases, it's likely we'll see innovation (as WE know it) decrease. There will be other innovations, for sure, but I'll be stunned if anyone's as lucky as we've been.
THIS was/is FUN.
Smoking will die, one day, and vaping will be the vice in its place. I've very little doubt of that, but I don't know if I'll make it to see the completion. Regardless, I'm happy.
yeah right along with the people who smoke them … All of this talk sure makes a fella ponder upon it for sure... I am not psychic or have a crystal ball, but there are little hints as to what's coming... @zoiDman and @DPLongo22, you both have good points.
You haven't even heard the worst of it. Remember Hon Lik? The inventor of the modern ecig? He held the patents on ecigs. That is until 2014 when he sold them to Imperial Tobacco. Now BT owns the patents and the future of vaping is now in their hands.
You guys might have misunderstood my statement(s). I'm not saying it will all be bad for vaping - but it will be vastly different than it would be without BT money. FDA won't be able bully around BT like they can small vape companies- too much money coming to governments still. But it will change- a lot. I agree with what you're saying DP about standardization. BT money will be able to lobby for standards that fit their agenda and reduce competition. Homogenization of the industry will likely be accelerated, compared to what might have happened if vaping remained separate from BT. Innovation will likely begin to suffer, as other tobacco companies start buying the other successful vape companies.

I'm not saying they won't do anything to the vaping industry. Juul's market share & visibility, combined with Altria's size & lobby presence, will just change the conversation quite a bit, that's all. I can't prove anything, and we won't know what the course would have been, without the purchase. I just think this hastens the death knell for mom & pops.

But see here's the Deal... There Isn't going to be any Small Companies in a Fully Regulated Market.
They're just going to be Priced Out of the Market. All there is going to be is BT and BV (Big Vape). And BV is only going to be Marginally Better than BT.
