Perhaps some encouraging news:
FDA COMMISSIONER PRAISES THE WORK OF VAPE SHOPS AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO CONTROL YOUTH ACCESS TO TOBACCO

CDC: Youth Tobacco Use Increased in 2018, Erasing Long Decline
It will get blamed on vaping, mark my words........

Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it: I sense Gottlieb doesn't REALLY want to ban vaping altogether (or effectively regulate it out of existence). I just don't. If he did, he would not have extended the Deeming deadline. That plus I just get the feeling he knows there are tremendous benefits to vaping. We saw with the past FDA/DHHS bosses in the last administration willing to pull the trigger on vaping without a whole lot of hesitation and I'm convinced if those same people (or types) were still running the FDA that vaping would effectively be gone by now. At a minimum, Gottlieb is wobbly and hesitant (as you allude). Tells me he isn't sold on eliminating vaping to the extent Deeming was going to do. Just my hunch.Gottlieb has been known to change his mind at the drop of a hat, so we will see what happens next. (Everyone hold onto your hats)
You are probably correct. I've read that he once owned a vape shop prior to accepting the FDA position. And he likely is receiving pressure from Big Tobacco and Big Pharma to over-regulate vaping to fit their agenda. Those giant corporations are used to getting their own way with the FDA.Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it: I sense Gottlieb doesn't REALLY want to ban vaping altogether (or effectively regulate it out of existence). Of course he knows the benefits of vaping......he owned or co-owned vape shops. Totally agree. If not for the big anti-vaping interests like BT, BP, and the ANTZ I think Gottlieb would have rendered his verdict by now. But there's a lot of dough that holds him up and he's trying to figure a way to dance thru it.You are probably correct. I've read that he once owned a vape shop prior to accepting the FDA position. He was once an investor in the "Kure Vaporium" chain, which has about 10 locations scattered around the Carolinas. A bit upscale compared to most vape shops. You are probably correct. I believe he does. He extended the Deeming deadline to make it very easy for anybody including teens to get their hands on e-cigarettes. And he is waiting until it is so bad that he could say he had no choice but to drop the hammer.Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it: I sense Gottlieb doesn't REALLY want to ban vaping altogether (or effectively regulate it out of existence). I just don't. If he did, he would not have extended the Deeming deadline.
No Gottlieb knew that coming down on vaping right away would get such a huge amount of backlash, it would have failed for sure. He needs a very good reason to do so where most won't question taking vaping out. This is why the delay. And he is trying to encourage more teens into vaping by telling them you shouldn't do this. Which just means try it to teens. We saw with the past FDA/DHHS bosses in the last administration willing to pull the trigger on vaping without a whole lot of hesitation and I'm convinced if those same people (or types) were still running the FDA that vaping would effectively be gone by now. In Gottlieb's defense, I believe he extended the Deeming deadline to give him time to evaluate the issues more closely. He had just accepted the commissioner position when he extended the deadline. He extended the Deeming deadline to make it very easy for anybody including teens to get their hands on e-cigarettes. And he is waiting until it is so bad that he could say he had no choice but to drop the hammer.
We're never going to convince teens to not try an adult product by telling them not to try it. Look at alcohol, tobacco, eating tide pods and smoking used tampons. Gives a new meaning to You Can't Fix Stupid. No Gottlieb knew that coming down on vaping right away would get such a huge amount of backlash, it would have failed for sure. To be fair, some vape manufacturers have over-stepped their bounds by targeting kids with advertising seemingly aimed to kids. IMHO, it is a problem that should be addressed and can be easily addressed. It can be done without banning all flavors in e-cigarettes. Gottlieb seems to have had some success with the issues he had with Juul. Removing their sale from gas stations and convenience stores and encouraging the sales to be limited to vape shops seems to have worked to his satisfaction. Why do you think the next step is by banning flavors? That would stop most of the adults from vaping and those who currently vape, probably to go back to smoking. Haven't you noticed what they say they are doing isn't what happens? Like they say they are doing this for the children. But the children isn't going to harmed since vaping is too new for most of them anyway. But the effects of regs has a huge effect on us adults. And that is why they are doing it. To target adults and hide behind children to do it.

The smart move would be to offer free cigarettes to everyone over sixty-two to speed the process.
