Signed by eleven Senators. If one were to check their each of their party affiliations, I wonder of some of pattern might emerge? Oh, and one of them is running for President in 2020...

Yeah... When I looked over the undersigned, for Some Reason this song popped into my head.

The Long and the Short of it is I Don't Care who is running against Durbin. Whoever it is, I'm sending them a Check for $100.00

The problem is we (Illinois) has no opposition party. We have a few with R's next to their name but that is in name only. Most are used to vote yes for potentially unpopular votes. They are expendable for the most part. There are a few real conservatives but it really is just a few. Durbin's last election, the Republicans ran a joke candidate and surprise surprise, Durbin won. I don't think he ever really faced a real candidate to run against. Just the way this state works, best example of machine politics in the country.

I guess what I am getting at, Durbin will never leave via election so save your money.

I grew up in Chicago during the Daley days...old man Daley. Every damn alderman was bought and paid for. The cancer eventually spread to the rest of the state. The machine thrives. Capone is dead but his legacy lives on.

Having watched Durbin since I became a member of the ECF, I wasn't going to Limit my contribution to a Republican candidate.

For Durbin, I would say that this is more of a Secondary Motivation. Because Durbin is Emotionally FUBAR when it comes to "tobacco".

It's Ironic. Because maybe if there had been e-Cigarettes when Durbin's Father Smoked, things would have turn out Better for him?

Don't waste your money.
In Illinois, Durbin in Senator for life.
Most of his campaign money (which he really doesn't need) comes from Chicago law firms.

That's OK.

I always seem to Need more line items when I fill out Form "A".

That, and I would get a Tremendous Amount of Pleasure writing throwdurbinoutonhisear in the lower left hand corner of the Check.

Illinois just raised the smoking/vaping age to 21. The part of the story that interests me is "The bill Pritzker signed eliminates penalties for underage possession but retains fines and penalties for businesses that sell tobacco products to underage customers, the newspaper noted." If this was not done we would quickly find that the police were enforcing against kid vaping but not kids smoking. That would have demonstrated clearly what this is all about.

So is the tobacco free nicotine now sold a future means to cease tobacco product regulation since it isn't from tobacco?

Even fully synthetic nicotine is still considered a tobacco product. Sadly so is glass, screws, o-rings, screens, and anything else that might be used as part of an e-cigarette.

I keep hearing that batteries, wires etc can't be deemed and controlled but I don't see the difference...if they deem it.....

Because then every cordless tool batter pack and every toaster would fall under the TCA, and they're not that stupid. Then they would risk the whole thing getting tossed as totally nonsensica.

Tobacco (aka nicotine) I believe has always been the FDA's hyper-ventilated wet dream when it comes to creating a backdoor for "regulating" organics and ultimately all nutritionals. And now with new legally approved flavors we can't discuss here on this forum there is plenty of incentive. FDA wants to be your better government.

Good luck. :)

Soon after I came to America in 90 Indiana tried to ban all herbs that had claims of medicinal benefits. They wanted to stop health food stores selling them, and they even tried to make it illegal for individuals to grow them for personal use. That's not the illegal stuff. Just herbs that people say reduce blood pressure or help with stress or whatever.

It was being pushed by the drug companies. Claiming that they hadn't been tested for being safe and effective. It got as far as the State legislators debating a bill. Can't remember how it died but it went away. There were lawsuits going on.

They will keep on trying if it takes them 100 years.

If at first you don't succeed, repeat the vote until you do.

Good luck. :)

I have no doubt who was behind that mess, but they really can't ban all herbs that have claims of medicinal benefits. That will never happen. That ban would include way too many things people actually cook with on a daily basis. There would be rioting in the streets, if people suddenly had to eat flavorless food because all their herbs and seasonings were banned.

Cooking herbs with medical claims include, but is not limited to:
  • Garlic: Claims to prevent colds, weight control, treat cold sores, reduce cholesterol, treat diabetes, help respiratory problems, and more.
  • Rosemary: Claims to reduce stress, heal stoke damage, boost immune system, relieve pain and more.
  • Oregano: Claims to boost immunity, have anti-cancer potential, improve heart health, antibacterial, and more.
  • Parsley: Claims to clean kidneys, reduce risk of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, control diabetes, have anti-cancer properties, reduce symptoms of arthritis, and many more.
  • Ginger: Claims to treat cold and flu, reduce arthritis pain, relieve asthma, prevent cancer, boost heart health, control diabetes, and more.
These next two are really going to get you:
  • Salt: Claims to improve cardiovascular health, prevent diabetes, promote healthy pregnancy, cure cystic fibrosis, and more.
  • Black pepper: Claims to have anti-tumor properties, improve cognitive function, prevent asthma, treat cold and cough, improve digestion, help with weight loss, and more.

The above is just a very short list, but the reality is nearly ALL herbs used in cooking have some claim to medicinal properties. I am not saying they are true or false, just that the claims have been made and they have been marketed as such and thus would have been banned under that law. Think about what Italian food would taste like without any of the Italian herbs. Think about what Mexican food would taste like without Mexican herbs. Think how EVERYTHING would taste without salt and pepper. Now imagine the public outrage when no one can cook their favorite foods any more without it all tasting like bland crap. Yeah I just don't see that one ever happening.

I can attest to the above. My mother, to the best of my memory, never added any spices or herbs. My father was a meat and potatoes kind of person, so mom didn't have a broad selection of items for the dinner table.

Fried chicken had a plain flour batter. Steak was broiled without spices. Spaghetti was cooked with a plain spaghetti sauce from a can or jar. You might be surprised by the number of items that I put ketchup on just to add some flavor. Ie mashed potatoes, baked beans, spaghetti, etc.

I once brought home a Jamaican girlfriend to visit, and she was appalled at how bland my mother's food was. Aside from salt and pepper that was on the dinner table, Mom didn't spice up her food at all. Since I grew up eating this way, I didn't know any better.

When I cook now as an adult, I like to experiment with adding different spices, rubs, sautees, to add FLAVOR to my food. I live with my brother, and he won't eat my food. "Mom never cooked it that way."

As if FDA testing keeps us all safe and all that the FDA has on the market is effective.
There are times that I believe the final clinical trial for a drug is when the FDA releases the drug upon the general public.
