At risk of perpetuating the doom and gloom here's a thought, I sysop/own several very niche but well populated web based forums since they were "invented" and admin or mod a number of other forums ( No I'm not asking to be a mod here. ) one of the first things we created on all of those was a small "fall-out shelter" private forum and a mailing list of all those interested in resurrecting something if the worst should happen.

Just an idea, to be a prepper if you like, Protest & Survive, etc.

That sounds like a good idea. I suspect we’ll go to sign on one day and ECF will have gone *POOF* in the night. I doubt they’ll be polite enough to give us warning. For many, this is the only forum they visit.

ECF is the only forum I go to and despite some of the things we feel are wrong with the site right now, I find it impossible to believe that ECF would be shut down without notice. If nothing else, Classy would give us a heads up and I don't think Oliver would just pull the plug without any advance notice. Just my .

I would hope I’m wrong. I have NO doubt Classy would warn us IF she was told the site was closing. She’s always been a bright spot here .But....consider this: For Oliver, this is a business venture. If those who say US vape companies are supplying the bulk of the advertising dollars are correct, it would make this a black hole business if the FDA shuts everything down. I wouldn’t blame Oliver for shutting it down then... he has no monetary obligation to keep this alive just for our benefit. I’d rather be prepared for something than be blindsided. Never hurts to consider all the possibilities. I would love to come back in several years and have you make me eat crow about being wrong.

I'm thinking that it's not unreasonable to expect a jump in activity if/when the dreaded hammer falls. People might be flocking to any source they can find, especially given the large number of vapers this snowball has picked up since beginning its roll.

The truth is that I'm still a bit numb that it's even really happening, and I expect I'm far from alone in the regard. Crazy. Absolutely nutz (smh).

Since Classy's already commented, I guess I could have kept my big mouth shut (but why start now).

As for stocking up, the old adage of, "It's better to have and not need than to..." definitely applies here.

If I end up outliving my stuff, well, I'll likely be the most surprised person in the history of the planet. At that point, grab me a pack of Marlboro's and let's find the check-out desk.

I am not sure this site will be economically viable for many more years, maybe even months. Without USA advertising dollars, I don't see how it can continue.

Hosting and running a forum isn't that expensive.

It must cost a bit to maintain all this. All the old messages going back to the beginning, and jpg's use up a lot of space. I remember being on deals like yahoo groups where they constantly deleted old messages to save space. Maybe space is cheaper these days.

Both space and bandwidth are far cheaper than they once were.

I would likely never have decided to DIY or had the guts to start building without this place. And I certainly wouldn't have had as much fun. I will be awfully sad if/when it dies.

I don't think I would have stopped smoking without it. I found ECF the day after I started vaping, only intending to see if I could maybe cut back some, and the fine folks here are what led me to believe it was possible to stop entirely.

Have you ever read back to the beginnings of ECF when Smokey Joe/Oliver started the forum? It's pretty entertaining. He obviously, to me, didn't start it for the money but did become a valuable asset to the vaping community. More power to him. I hope he's still actively stumping for vaping, we need more like him.

I don't blame you for wanting to cover your bases, I want to too. Don't participate much here lately due to medical reasons but losing this community would be devastating. There's people here I've never even talked to that I consider friends simply because I've seen them around for years and like them. There's even people here I've gotten to know and then they passed on that have left holes in my soul that won't heal. We are a vibrant community.

I wouldn't blame Oliver for shutting it down but believe he would find a different solution before doing so. If it all comes to pass as currently predicted with deeming, ECF will be needed more than ever

I did quit smoking via vaping before I really found ECF (more like actually figured this pentagon-like maze place out on random google searches ), but my true success and and longevity in quitting I attribute directly to the good folks here at ECF. I owe it all to ECF members and it's a debt that can never be repaid.

Relax guys, we're not going anywhere, and we'll be more important than ever.

The best guess for the future is that we're going to end up with PMTA'd products and 'grey market' products. Ie. the same products we use now, but sold as 'not for use with nicotine' in the same way that the alternatives market grew up saying they were only for use with tobacco.

Practically the market is going to get even more confusing for people, so we need to think how we're going to deal with that.
