I... am Actually Surprised that Newsom has taken the approach that he has. Almost shows some Legal Restraint.

I agree. To a point. A lot of people in Hollywood vape. ;)

And then there's this:

The state could also raise taxes on e-cigarettes to make the rates more comparable with taxes on traditional cigarettes. :sneaky:

I... am Actually Surprised that Newsom has taken the approach that he has. Almost shows some Legal Restraint.

Newsom said he personally wants to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes, but that California laws and regulations prevent his ability to do so without legislative action.

“It appears a governor alone is not afforded the right legally to ban those products outright,” Newsom said. “We’d need legislative support. We’re pushing the envelope, we’ll see how far we can go ... I’m hopeful we can find a pathway to do just that, in the absence of any legislative push.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom announces executive order to curb youth vaping

JTBC...

Not say'n that Newsom is on My Christmas Card Card List or anything. But I had Expect some Sweeping Action devoid of any CA Constitutionality.

You don't think that was considered? The government wants a ban on ecigs so that Big tobacco gains back all their previous smokers. Kills two birds with one stone. Kills vaping/increases money for Big Tobacco and Big Pharma who are major contributors to political campaigns.

Look up Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

Hold on, this video explains it.

Hey... How Else are you going to Pay Back the Feds for that Big Hole in the Ground that was supposed to be a High Speed Rail?

Or on an Exploding Homeless Population that 619 Million was supposed to Fix via Prop. 2?

[QUOTE="Katya, post: 22074917, member: 30925"Thanks, Kristin. I can't even imagine how inundated you all must be ATM. Thanks for all your hard work. It's just that there are so many new members here who don't even know you exist... They ask for guidance; many want to help, do something, make their voices heard. It would be nice to have a place to send them to for all the latest calls to action etc.

I got another email today, I'm not sure if it's OK to share it with others here on the forum?

Vaping Prohibition is On the Table in Congress!

Thanks![/QUOTE]
Definitely OK to share! That one I had put in the September 11 News post in the CASAA forum, too.

And, of course, if folks join CASAA, they can get the emails directly. :)

Hey... someone needs to watch that program about e-cigarettes that comes on CNBC in a couple minutes..

I'd watch it but DH doesn't care to sit through it.. I am wondering what level of misinformation they are about to spew though.

They've titled it Vaping: America's E-Cigarette Addiction and it lasts a full hour and if the title is any indication, I find it doubtful they are about to say good things...

Edit: @Katya is recording.

Has this nugget been reported here yet?

FDA clears Philip Morris' iQOS, Altria prepares to sell heated tobacco device in the US this summer

Courtesy of @FranC on another thread. Thanks, Frannie!

Hey @Rossum :) Thoughts?
I'm kinda surprised how long it's taking them. Summer effectively over, and as far as I can tell, IQOS still isn't being sold. I'd have thought with as long as it took the FDA to approve that PMTA (over two years) that Altria would be ready to go the moment they got the green light.

I guess the reason you 'paged' me is you remember that I bought an IQOS kit at an airport Duty Free Shop on the way back from Europe last year. Like the Juul I bought back in 2015, this was a "curiosity" purchase. It's been almost a year since then. I've gone through less than 2 packs of the heat sticks during that time. I'll still have one, once in a blue moon, when I'm in the right mood. They definitely produce a different "head" than vaping straight nicotine does; much more like I remember actual smoked tobacco. The downside is they taste just about as nasty as a real cig though. So I do not think we'll see a whole lot of vapers switching to IQOS, but I do see potential for harm-reduction among people who haven't taken to vaping.

Not good enough, CDC. Test properly--urine, blood, whatever you need to scientifically determine the culprit.
I betcha they have, but aren't telling. I mean you don't get admitted to the hospital with a "severe illness" that has no obvious cause without them taking blood and other samples as soon as you're in there.

Plus ça change... ;)

The Ploom is Here.

In 2009 we had Ploom. Curiously, also invented by the same Stanford graduates who gave us JUUL. I really hope that iQos is better than Ploom.

I believe they have all or at least some of the toxins in real cigs, just less of them.

    o_O

Well, they do contain actual tobacco, they just don't burn it. They also don't irritate my airways like smoking did. If vaping is 95% harm reduction from smoking, my unscientific assessment is that IQOS might be around 80%, i.e. still a big improvement over combustibles.

Yeah... There is a Lot of Patient Confidentiality issues at play with something like this.

For Many, It would be Bad Enough to have to Miss a Week of Work. But to have your Boss/Company read about you in the News missing a Week cause you were Chasing some Dank Carts, well... that could be a Drag.
