Do you vape in a no smoking area?

All over the place
I generally start up a conversation with the owners or whoever is "in charge." The conversation never starts out where I plan on taking it, but generally, if not all the time, people are more inclined to be curious when you give them a chance. So I take it out, and I don't vape it, but I show them the hardware and how it feels to hold it. You know what happens right? They ask me to show them how it works. I proceed to show them the PV and its accessories, e.g., batteries, atty, drip tip, drip shield, juice etc, but I still haven't actually vaped anything. Of course, then they really want to see it in action, so I oblige them. All the while I am "showing" them, I am vaping. I ask them to watch as the vapor dissipates, and then ask them what they smell? They're always so shocked that is doesn't stink and how much initial vapor comes out. By the time I am done, I have to do it all over again as they get others to come and check it out.

I haven't been told to not do it; on the contrary, I have been asked to do it. But of course, I get the green light first. I end up getting swamped by smokers who have never seen anything like it (only ever seen cig-a-likes). I show people ECF on the nearest mobile device, videos of people blowing huge (larger than mine) clouds and before you know it, what could have started out one way, ends up being an educational experience for them, and a pleasant vaping experience for me. The coolest part is that when I do it once, I don't have to do it again for the same establishment.

I always err on the side of being courteous, and from my experiences, that tends to be given back. If by chance it isn't allowed, then at least I know ahead of time and without having to go though the whole "SIR! You are not allowed to do that here!." Save everybody, including yourself, a headache.

Until it is more widely known, accepted and understood, I think we bear the responsibility of educating. Unfortunately, that also means taking the time to do it; but I would prefer it to be me rather than someone that saw something on Dr.Oz!

p.s. For the most part, I am talking about bars/pubs.

p.p.s. When in doubt, go to bathroom. LOL

I generally will vape just about anywhere, while asking for permission, with the exception of an airplane. If I'm in the grocery store or something, and if I want a pull, I'll take one and just hold it in. I pretty much chain vape at work, in the car.. Pretty much everywhere except in public. I don't consider work 'public' since I only work with 1 other person 1 night a week, the other three I work by myself and very VERY limited contact to customers.

Thanks! It works like a charm, especially not vaping until asked--that curiosity builds up in them so much that they have just GOT to see. Nobody has EVER asked me to let them try it, but I have brought a few people to ECF.

The entire world is slowly becoming a no-smoking area.
Can you do the math?

If you don't vape in no-smoking areas, pretty soon you won't be able to vape anywhere.
Public parks? Beaches? Your own car? Your own home?

These are not just the wild thoughts of a lunatic, these are things that are real, and are already happening.
If you're not aware of these things then you must not be aware of the Legislative News subforum.

I strongly suggest staying out of the Legislative New subforum, because ignorance truly is bliss.

I don't get it..after nearly 6 months my craving for nicotine is virtually gone and I have been on 18 mg since the start. I vape at break at work so it will give me something to do and usually at night to relax. In my opinion when I was smoking I was able to make a grocery shopping trip without having to smoke so I can without vaping either.

I use to smoke 2 PAD too.

I vape anywhere and everywhere but in situations like non smoking areas and public schools etc. and if
i absolutely need to take a quick drag I tend to stealth vape where little vapor is produced on the exhale. Nobody can really tell unless they're staring straight at you for an uncomfortably long time at this point they're the one being rude lol.

Recitation: I don't go out much or really frequent bars or restaurants so I haven't done much with that aspect of things yet. Where I live vaping is pretty unknown (I think) and I've had some odd looks while vaping in the car or on the street.

At work I vape pretty freely, and my smoker co-workers have been pretty interested while the other co-workers asked a few questions and then left it at that. After I printed out some of the study information about second hand vape and such the management had no issue with me vaping indoors. I work in the back away from customers though too so that probably helps.

As far as when out in public, I still tend to steer away from kids and didn't vape when I was at my brother's house (he has 2 very young kids) just as a consideration aspect. Other than that I've vaped in a couple stores, though a bit more stealthily perhaps. Freely on the sidewalk, or in my car.

I usually don't in enclosed public spaces, that being said, I was in jury duty for the last week, on the fifth floor of the building. I asked the bailiff if there was an issue with me vaping in the hall and he said no, not as far as he knew, so I vaped discreetly in the hall. While in deliberation I asked my fellow jurors if they minded, took a sample drag, didn't blow out any visible vapor and they were all fine with it. Sometimes it's more about being a polite member of society rather than if you have the "right" to do something, but that's just my opinion.

This is really good to know about. But in my case I'd have to blow the steam down my shirt or something.

I also ask when entering a restaurant if vaping is permitted. If not, I respect the property rights of the management and either go somewhere else, or eat without vaping. It really is not that hard and I get the green light about half the time.

Of the attention I get it is 60% curious, 30% positive, 10% negative. I have had someone make a scene after I got permission from the owner prior to vaping. In this case, I just stopped so that the proprietor was not put in a bad situation because of this loudmouth ANTZ.

I do not vape in smoking areas. I do not want to associate vaping with smoking. I do vape outside without permission, unless in a crowd. I vape in my office at work, in my car and in my home. When I am doing field work I do not vape in my client's building. I do not even ask because I consider that to be unprofessional. I don't ask in schools or such places.

I disagree with the concept that vaping publicly is what is getting vaping banned. I think having a meek attitude and being ashamed about it is more detrimental to vaping than being rude. But I do not advocate either. I think if you follow the "ask openly and then vape proudly" it is the best thing you can to further our cause.

I vape in a non smoking area and I have to admit I was a bit nervous but so far so good. I vape in a delta sonic car wash as I watch my car go by on that moving floor thing. No one else was in the area and the only ones who could actually see me are the people cleaning my car. If someone walks by I stop but otherwise I am vaping away very content..once the nervousness wore off. I do stand outside at work where I'm not supposed to stand, next to a door, actually the elevator. If someone walks by I stop vaping. The people who use the elevator obviously need it, babies in strollers, people who can't use stairs etc.

People like you will get us banned.

There is no doubt that "vaping" as we know it now, will eventually be banned. There's just no way our government is going to allow people to use an addictive substance without getting a *major* piece of the action. Of course, they'll use any excuse to start enacting the bans & regulations - but those are just excuses to do what they're going to do anyway.

You don't know if you're hurting anyone or not. There's no hard evidence yet. And being in America means the other guy has rights too.

Virtually everything we do in our society harms others in some way or another! 'Buy anything manufactured outside of the USA? That causes job losses. 'Drive a car? The exhaust is carcinogenic. 'Take pharmaceuticals? Excretement containing the residuals contaminates the water supply. Use a cell phone? The effects to anyone within a few feet are harmful (to those that are electrosensitive, the effects are VERY harmful). The list is endless, for sure.

I haven't finished reading this thread, but so far the greatest majority of posters are being extremely respectful of others. I've seen no one say they'd vape where they were asked not to vape.

I stealth vape indoors and freely outdoors. If someone asks me what it is, I explain it and so far in three years they have all had no problem with it, especially when I tell them that it's the only thing that has ever enabled me to quit without tobacco cravings.

People are generally reasonable. I will always remember the time I was on an Atlanta to LA flight that stopped briefly in West Texas. I deplaned and walked outside for a couple of smokes after several hours of abstinence. It was breezy outside, so the smoke disappeared immediately, but a grandma with two small kids walked by on the sidewalk and she shielded them with her coat and glared directly at me as they walked by. I was under a sign that said, "Smoking allowed with 15 feet of this sign".

Hell ya!! I vape on a regular basis in the TTC in Toronto. On buses, subways and platforms. I have been approached several times by employees but more for information.
We will sit and wait for our Green Signs that say E-cig allowed here. I have made copies of these window signs and dropped them in restaurant mailboxes in my neighborhood as a slight push but seen nothing posted yet.

I vape in a few more open areas, where I would have thought twice about lighting up that analog. I vape in my office at work, and on my commutes to and from the job. I follow the "no smoking" signs, because there are (no offense to them) way too many ignorant people who normally have something dumb to say about vaping.

With that said, in the open areas where I vape, I have a lot of curious people lately, who will come up and ask me about vaping, including a lot of smokers. It's all good.
