Does vaping ever become as second nature as smoking cigs?

I'm in. I'm a certified vaper. I quit a 35 year analog habit and I'm not going back....ever. But I wonder.....I seem to be preoccupied with vaping. Not that it's bad, but with smoking, it was just something I did and I didn't really think about it. I'm almost 2 months in and I realize I'm still finding the rig and juices that work for me, but does it ever get to the point where you are NOT thinking about whats in the mail or what new juice you ordered, or what the Mah rating on the gizmo you are sucking on is? I love vaping, I guess I'm just getting tired of thinking about it! Any insight from long term vapers?

Yep. Once you find what is right for you. For me it's a ProVari and a carto tank. Fill the tank, change the batteries and go. I am very busy with school, work, and life and don't have a lot of time to fuss with stuff.

I do have mechs and RBAs and I DIY when I want to take the time to fuss, but most days I just don't want to think that much about it.

It depends on the person I think. I go through phases where I don't think much about it for like months and months. Then I'll get a bug to try something, like rebuildables, or to make a different liquid, or try a different atomizer/clearomizer. I'll fiddle with that for a while, buying supplies, then be perfectly happy until months later, when I decide to fiddle with something else. That fits my nature. I call myself a serial hobbyist, and my hobby is starting new hobbies. So, I'll futz around with ecigs until something else comes along. Then I'm back to just vaping and futzing with some other hobby-like pursuit.

It took me 3 months to find a set up that is second nature, Twist and Evod + ADV (Liqua energy drink/Menthol/Trad Tobacco blend). I do vary it up at times but I could live with just that if I had to, it's like finding a brand of cigarettes, you it a different pack on holiday or if the shop is out of stock and its nice to have something different but then you go back to your regulars pretty quickly.

Absolutely a second nature. I have an EVOD that I always take when I'm going out, often there's a vamo + AGA-T dangling from my neck in the car. I like to think of myself as a tinkerer and I enjoy fiddling with my AGA-T wicks to try get some more performance out of it. Sadly I don't have the funds and tools to do everything that pops to mind.
I'm happy with the devices I have but it's fun to see what they can do. All I do with my EVOD is the occasional replacing of top-wicks and a dry burn, the coils last a good while. For juices I always a backup stash of cheap generic liquids that I can mix and match. Once a local shop started importing Halo I've been one happy puppy.

The strange part is that I'm pretty happy with the devices I have. I suppose it's still a new thing but I think about it too much.

I think any sort of life change or something you find that you really like can be like this. When I was losing weight (68 lbs, go me!) I was mildly obsessed with it. Again, it's my nature to dive into something completely. I would track my food, read articles about weight loss, post on message boards about it, etc... Eventually this just faded into something I think about as second nature. I've kept the weight off for over 5 years now, and I don't have much conscious thought about it.

I had a friend who discovered beach, or sand, volleyball. He was obsessed with it for a while. Then, it eventually faded into something he just does. He still enjoys it, but he is not consumed by it.

I reckon it depends on the person. Myself, I've been vaping for four years and finally don't mess with my PV, juice or cartos much anymore.

The modern equipment makes a big difference. At first it was a 510 with a cig-sized battery that only lasted an hour and a half, so I was constantly charging batteries or worrying about them going dead, and constantly topping off a dinky little cartridge. There wasn't as much variety in juices and many weren't that good.

Now I'm using a Provari with a carto tank. Just put in a fresh battery, fill the tank and I'm good for the day.

The main thing I do now is blend a couple of my regular juices together to vary the taste from day to day.

Like many who have done this for awhile (16 months for me), I've found a comfortable setup that works well for me. Provari and cartotanks or a dripping atomizer on a bottom feeder box mod. This provides me with some variety and consistancy, too. I have found at least a dozen flavors that I truly like, and have started to delve into DIY e-liquids.

Also tried my hand with the more advanced RBAs, but I am not a fiddler or tinkerer, and I have found that these are often fussy and inconsistant, and take some time to troubleshoot. When they are working at optimum performance, there is not a better vape, but I haven't reached the point where they stay that way consistantly.

I'll still try new things, but I don't buy the very latest gadgets; I wait to see how others like the new product/concepts first. I was never a fan of clearomizers a year ago, but since my daughter recently started vaping I've re-visited the new generation of bottom fed clearos like the Protanks and Evods which have moderately impressed me.
_____

I've posted this observation before: Vaping will never be as easy as smoking was. When I smoked, I only needed cigarettes and a lighter/matches. If I didn't have either, there was a store within 5 minutes driving where I could purchase more.

With vaping, it takes planning ahead and some organization skills. I need charged batteries (a bunch of them), a reliable charger (or two), at least two battery devices, and backups for my backups for my primary juice delivery devices. I need to keep at least a week's worth of e-liquid on hand at all times, because that is how long it can take to get more.

I've learned when I leave the house, I need to bring two PV's topped with full juice delivery attachments, just in case one or the other stops working. Be prepared for the unexpected.

Cigarettes will no longer control my life.

Been mostly a dripper, coming up on 2 years now, i get something from the fiddle-drip factor i think. Recently I have been trying some new things and have been getting some RDA, tanks and trying vendor flavors. Seems second nature to me and more of a hobby now.

Admittedly I miss the ability to free both hands while a cig was hanging out of my mouth. Lip exercises have not strengthened them enough to keep my mod steady though. But thats the only thing I don't get from vaping.

It becomes second nature to me, as long as I don't read ECF.

A couple of months ago I started re-visiting ECF after being away from it for a year. When I was away, I was happy with what had become my go to vaping regiment. Ego 650 passthroughs - unflavored 30mg/ml 50/50 pg vg - smoktech dual coils, it had become second nature to me - I did not think about it, or talk about it, I just filled my cartos - and vaped.

But, I re-visited ECF, just to see whats new, and then I start changing things and trying new things, and it stops being second nature. I buy an Itaste v3, I buy one of those little vv passthroughs, I switch to dc tanks, I even try some flavors everyone is recommending (I STILL prefer unflavored) -

So, the reason smoking was second nature to you, was that you did not spend any time reading and discussing about it with other smokers.

There is a lot of truth here! Forums amplify these kinds of things.

Exactly what Kushka said. I went about 5 months without checking ECF and the only things I bought were replacement heads and juice. I charged, filled, vaped, and didn't obsess. I was 6 months in when I faded away from ECF... I was over my need to be consumed with everything vaping in order to conquer smoking. I had juice and equipment that satisfied me and was in a happy place.

I came back when I hit a rough patch with the tanks I had been using -- wicking issues, burning, taste, etc had gotten unsatisfying and I needed something new. I'm also not currently working (we just moved across country for my husband's work), so I've got the time to futz and obsess. :)

Sure does, I have 2 Provarii, 4 Protanks and I DIY most of my juice., If it's loaded in a tank, it's something I like and, it works at the 6.5 V I prefer on 1.5-1.7 Ohm coils for the tempm of my vape. Set it, forget it - I don't think "I need a smoke" It's "I need a vape."

Sure I have to stop and think, and play with a new flavor or new gizmo that caught my eye now and then, but, that's no different than trying a new brand of analogs used to be - light one, see if the filter needs clipped or removed or if it's too hash as is, think about the smell, taste etc... decide if I wanted a second of that brand. Well now it's try different volts, different resistances, see if steeping might help the flavor, maybe thinning will, maybe I just don't like it no matter what I do to it.

But with known good flavors at my preferred settings, it's simply what I do - I vape, second nature to picture it in my mind when I need nic, and instinct to grab my PV, like it used to be to grab the pack of analogs and lighter.

it will never be as hassle free as smoking cigarettes where for us. I like to see it as a pipe smoker thing instead of a cigarette thing...
there is a ritual to it, you need to find your tobacco blend (pipe) juice (vape) fill it in, clean the pipe you'll probably have a few pipes and flavors. cigarettes was just a "cheap nicotine fix" the pipe smoking is more about the flavor and ritual.
There is a difference getting drunk with a 4 dollar plastic bottle vodka-like alcohol thing than mixing the perfect martini, having the perfect shaker and glass as well as the right ingredients, one takes more time than the other. well that's how I see this new hobby of mine. sorry for the ramble
