Who doesn't slip? Besides...even if you slip look at the flip side of the coin; how much tobacco have you avoided? When I first ditched analogs I was smoking about 10 of them a day. I figured (formerly smoked 2.5 PAD!) if I held steady where I was I still was way ahead of the curve. When that 'ole analog Jones comes knocking at my door I take some 36mg tobacco flavored e-liquid and drip it; the Old Jones just can't compete!

I'm in the mix your own camp. Safety is the key, though. I actually found DIY a reason to get more involved in the transition out of smoking. Now that I have the capability to make so many flavors, I have no interest in the analog taste. You have to get fully invested in this new habit. Your own e-liquid has your own personal touch. I'll never give that up for Camel's corporate touch. Wear gloves and be careful if you DIY. Beginning at a lower level nicotine base, like 36 mg/ml is good to get started. Educating yourself is an integral part of this new habit.

Right from the beginning:
  • DON'T UNDERSPEND
  • DON'T UNDERESTIMATE
  • DON'T UNDERSTOCK
  • DO GET THE BEST PERSONAL VAPE SYSTEM
  • DO EXPECT EXPECT TO QUIT ANALOGS - FOREVER
  • DO PURCHASE MORE THAN ENOUGH FROM THE BEGINNING
I have only been Vaping for one week. Thus, I am experiencing first hand, the early challenges of switching from analogs to eCigs. I'm sure all the Vets on here can tell you much better than I can, the ins & outs of the best way to Vape, and what systems work best for different applications. But, what I am saying is THIS WORKS, if you give Vaping and yourself a chance from the beginning.

Because, it is way easier to buy another pack of smokes than it is to replenish your eCig stock. So, make certain you are ready to go the distance. Don't assume Vaping might not work for you. IT WILL AND IT DOES! Make certain you purchase a system that delivers the correct amount of nicotine for YOU. Spend however much it takes. The first month (from what I can tell) will be expensive - anything is costly when you first "start up". There are costs to any new experience to just get the ball rolling.

I didn't want to "commit" to eCigs at first, so I did one of those silly promotional ads. $4.99 for a starter kit. It tasted terrible, and had lots of small print that was going to cost way more than just purchasing a good Vape system, in the first place. That trial kit lasted one day and I went back to analogs. Then, I saw a disposable (Blu) when I was buying a pack of smokes and decided I'd give eCigs one more chance. Thank God I did. That Blu had 24mg of nicotine and did the trick. Next, I did some research (still had not found this wonderful forum ECF, so googled a lot) and decided on a Pig Cig. I ordered an extra box of Carts and really glad I did, because I am into that box and waiting on juices I ordered to begin refilling my cartomizers with.

I liked smoking menthol, so I ordered menthol carts with my Pig Cig starter kit. But, only received one box of menthol and the other one was "Tobacco" flavor. I didn't realize this until I went through the menthol box of 5, and was still researching what e-liquids I wanted to order. My first thought? Oh, I'll just buy a pack of menthol smokes until I can get a bottle of menthol liquid, because I didn't want to smoke the tobacco flavored carts due to the taste.

Well, I popped open the tobacco carts anyway, and tried one. Not my fancy, but I am into my 3rd day of smoking the tobacco flavor and didn't buy the smokes! I rush ordered my menthol refill e-liquid (a mint one too : ) and I am going to make it. If the tobacco flavored ones run out, I'm down to Walgreens to buy a couple of Blu menthol eCigs.

Switching to vaping from analogs isn't that tough. Actually, it's much easier then smoking (I can do it in the car; I don't stink; i feel better). But, buying eCigs and their supplies is not as easy as analogs. Thus, do the do's, not the dont's.

Have a contingency plan. Walgreens selling the Blu disposables is mine. By the way, the Blu starter kit Walgreens sales is an older one, maybe not the best PV to buy. And, read the heck out of this forum, you'll learn much. What's the most you have to loose? If you do the do's you will be smoke free. And, over a few weeks you will begin to save the dollars and begin to feel better. More importantly, you will save your life.

Great words of wisdom. I had to go back to analogs because i didn't order enough supplies when i ordered my kit. I will admit i was skeptical but hey it works. I will be ready to be done for good once my stuff comes in.

My bestest was Vanilla cotton candy 24 mg! All of the flavors I mixed vaped well one better than the rest. This all should probably be posted in another thread! :) My other flavors marksboro 36 mg (currently too strong flavor wise but nailed the nic level), smooth tobacco 24 mg (currently too weak flavor), and vanilla latte 24 mg (too much coffee). I tried to tone these down by adding a drop of the cotton candy.

I've already tweaked 3 of the four and returned them to my dark steep drawer for several days. My first experience with DIY has been a good one. Yes 3 of the 4 flavors I made need some more work but I've got one solid keeper. I may try a fruit flavoring with the CC instead of vanilla....but vanilla has worked out nicely. The marksboro produced the most vapor and flavor.

Anyway....again a really great thread. BTW I did't understock, underspend, or underestimate...I did get a new learning curve.

Thank you for this post. I am feeling better already from not smoking analogs. it has been four days now. But when the battery is getting weak or the cartridge is nearing it's end the idea is certainly there to rush out and buy a pack to "get me through" I am learning quickly though to keep supplies handy so I can avoid buying a pack.

Very good post. For I am new 2. Tried vaping before and went back to analogs. I am now vaping again and love it. I still have analogs which is hard to give up. Any advice for me?

Yep, when you wake up in the morning start with Vaping first, not cigs. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll just stick with the vape over the day....

Good luck!

My:2c: worth: I smoked 2.5 PAD of analogs for years. When I started vaping, recently, I still smoked <10 analogs a day along with vaping. I figured if I held that pattern the rest of my life that I was still way ahead of the curve. On 3/25/12 I woke and thought, "I want the flavor of vaping over the flavor of an analog. I'm going to try to vape only today". When I got that bad analog urge I would drip 36 mg e-liquid and it beat the heck out of the "analog Jones". Take your time. Don't beat yourself up. When the right e-liquid, pv, and urge to quit analogs strikes you'll be able to quit or significantly reduce the analogs. I think the main thing is knowing when the time is right for you and then seizing it. I think you're doing great. Don't give up your quest to be analog free and I predict one day you will be....it happened to me.

Only one other DO I would stick in there is
DO your research!

There are so many devices out there and forums like this one are a great source of info plus there are a bunch of people already doing what you are considering who can pass on some very good intel!

I 100% agree with the do's and dont's you have stated especially when it comes to ordering enough stuff!

Nice guide! +1

I've lurked for a while and finally decided I should register and contribute.

I've been smoking for about a decade, to the tune of a pack and a half a day. When I first heard about ecigarettes I decided to try them. My mistake was going for the cheapies. I tried three different versions and some from the gas station before I gave up and continued to analog for another year and a half.

Recently, however, an ecigarette store opened in my town. After some research, both on sites like this and a few threads on 4chan, I walked in to that store with a better idea of what I want.

I am now the proud owner of a KGO and I use stardusts almost exclusively. I alternate between a strong menthol for regular vaping and flavored "desert" juices for some variety. At the beginning I would still augment with an analog here and there, primarily when i wake up, after dinner, and before bed. But after a week i didn't even want those.

last sunday i asked my sister in law for a cigarette... and it was nasty.

I think I have finally kicked the habit, and we're in the process of converting my father in law and brother in law as well. :)
