Wayne's (HeavensGifts) atty's seem rather strong ones (the DSE 801 he has). I think he once told me they were made to operate on 5v - so that fits your 5V used (and mine). I also find the Janty classic ones to be quite sturdy at this voltage (but Wayne's are much cheaper).

Hi Katink...thanks for the suggestion..I keep reading people saying that the 801 is a good atty. I haven't tried one of those yet.

What we need is a cooler burn - i.e. the peroxide burn-in-place :) With extra bubble power. But sadly that is a bit fiddly and slightly risky for the average user.

Pete - are you using any original circuit within your mod that might well include a contant voltage or current supply to the atty, or just straight connection to the batteries?

I left in some electronics that were in the iron ..I assume that it must do something to regulate the voltage or current.
Any suggestions for how to make a dummy battery so I can try running at a reduced voltage?

Voltage/current regulation is good for maintaining power as batteries diminish - provided that the output is suitable (say, 3.5 to 4.5/5) and requires an input around 1.5v+ higher than the output.

With a higher voltage output, a regulator will maintain power when it would best diminish - i.e. when the coil get dry and so too hot.

It's when the mainatined power (good) is a bit too high (bad) that power regulation can cause problems.

Pete - can you not just connect straight to the batteries? What's the batterys' voltage?

The batteries are four standard AA 1.2 volt 2000 mah rechargeable's .....fully charged they must total around about 5.6 volts ..because individually they seem to charge very close to 1.4 volts.

I think the best thing would be to use an atty that is more happy with that kind of voltage. I know there are some better for this, but don't know what. The modders forum should have such info or maybe ask there.

I know where to get good quality, cheap 901 clones in the UK if that's helpful.

Might also be worth considering putting a power diode or two (1N4001) between the power supply and atty to reduce the voltage a bit. Small and cheap with virtually no power loss (heat).

I have done something a bit easier and quickly made myself a dummy battery and reduced it in that way....it still seems to be vaping quite nicely.

Hi Pete. Are yu able to see the coil in this atty, to check for the red-hot state and if the the coil is remaining shiny ?

Hi Steve....no I can't see the coil..I can only see the red glow when I give it a dry burn but I shall take it apart and post a picture of it when it dies.

If it starts to take longer to see the red glow then you know the deposit is building - and have the choice of upping the burn-off a bit.

I wonder what happens to the tin within the deposit during the burnoff. Emitted as ash, perhaps as oxide or ...? Forms a metalic coating (very slowly) on the coil? Comes off the coil as solid particles (perhaps as an oxide or salt), possibly mixed with other compounds/carbon? ~4% tin is rather a lot; wonder what happens to it ...

After doing a dry burn I have been dripping a few drops of juice directly down onto it and flooding it on purpose and then blowing it out into a tissue...that usually removes some black bits of crud that have been broken off by the heat..the thing that I don't like is that it takes a little while to get rid of a very bad taste to the vapour after doing a burn..so I don't actually inhale until that goes away. It's what is in those bad tastes that worry me. I would like to see a test done on what's in the vapour when it's tasting bad.

Indeed, but I can't see a juice company doing that test.

The lingering bad taste might be due to lingering bits? Or last until the partially burn gunk remaining gets a coating of new deposit?

It might be best to do a running hot tap / lemon juice/vinegar simmer after a burn to remove the bits (and hopefully bad taste).

I've been doing a similar thing. I do a burn off every 3 or 4 days, but you might vape more than I do. I rinse the atomizer thoroughly with water, blow it out, then hook it up to a battery in front of a mirror and blow on the battery end until the coil glows orange. The battery cuts off after a couple seconds so I do this 3 or 4 times. Then I rinse the atomizer in water to get out whatever could be in there, then blow it dry, hook it up to a battery and blow on the battery end until I don't hear sizzling anymore. So far it's been working well for me. I've been using the same atomizer for 2 weeks now and I haven't seen any black bits or been getting funny tastes after the burn off. I have a RN4075, and the coil does appear as new after the burn offs.

Hi Wonder....I vape about 3 ml a day..the dry burn does seem to have merit in keeping the coil clean and making it last longer, at the moment I am experimenting with how often to do it, my last atty lasted just over two weeks doing it three times a day....this time I am only doing it once a day to see how that goes.

Yahay.....another atty has lasted me for 2 whole weeks and is still working perfectly. Will it last even longer than the last one is the question.

Pete--I am glad it is working for you. I am also sorry to report that Exo will no longer be with us. I am not at liberty to report why--but it did not have anything to do with any of us. I am sorry to see him go as he was a great asset.-------Sun
