Well I headed for work and before I could get on the freeway I got called to stay home. So I turned around and came home. Went out and pushed some snow around on my drive. Just enough so when the temps go back up it melts quicker.. Just as glad I off because I have to go in 2 hours early tomorrow. We have training with safety on the new DOT rules for electronic logs. We've been told that anyone that moves a truck for any reason will have to log into the system. The dock guys going out to spot trailers in the dock, the shop when they move one in for service. Everyone. But I'll find out for sure tomorrow...

Just spoke with one of our older (i.e. more responsible) Drivers. Was asking about the DOT changes David mentioned, and along the way we started talking shop. Five of our Drivers went North this morning on overnight runs. One has already called in claiming they are down to one lane on I-77. No reason to send these southern boys north today, although most of us have been in these conditions multiple times before.

Well if they went north they're driving right into the storm..

Pop, I will ask again. What does your bill say? What internet package do you have?

It says high speed internet. But the modem is old. And the company changed names.
The modem is an Arris MT series, which is no longer listed on their website.
The "Package" is stand alone home internet service. Not sure the designation. TV through DirecTV, no home phone (for several years now).

Well we got some snow, I'm not sure how much. Maybe an inch and a half to two inches so far. It is lightly snowing now. I was surprised it was pretty dry snow. Tonight the temperature is supposed to be 12 with a real feel of 6-8 degrees. Joy. So far I still have power, and I am thankful for that. The police are diverting traffic from a hill, to my street. That means later it is going to be a solid sheet of ice. Driving through snow isn't too bad, it is the ice that will get you here. It did sleet last night, but not too much thank goodness.

Cassie keeps wanting to go outside and play in the snow. She is eating it and running around on the end of the leash. Bella did her business and decided all that traffic on my street stunk, so she wanted to come back in. (what a relief) I'm tired of putting my boots on, off, on, off, on, off. I think I'm going to need an extended nap later on today. :)

I would ask how much is monthly charge for their modem router combo because you can buy you own router and save a monthly charge. They were charging me $10/month to use theirs

You need to know what speed is included with this "high speed internet" package you are paying for. I'm not certain but this sounds like you have their basic (lowest end) package and if I'm not mistaken that is 60 mbps. But I'm not certain. Call them again.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Correct! I sent my modem back to Spectrum and bought my own. There is a list of "Spectrum-compatible" modems you can buy but it must be compatible with the speed package you buy from Spectrum. Hearing this Pops?

What is this other white thing called a wireless router ? It says Netgear....
I think I have a Modem from TWC and a router from DirecTV...
There are three things.

1) Modem - connects to your cable and converts your cable signal to a usable internet signal.
2) Router - Allows you to hook up your internet devices via hardwire (Ethernet cable). Includes computers, phone modems, other routers, other wifis, other all kinds of things.
3) Wifi - Converts your internet signal to a wifi signal so you can connect to the internet via wireless.

The Modem and Router are usually bought as one item. Nowadays, many have all three in one device. It's your choice what you want and you need to make sure what you are buying. I had an Arris Modem/Router/Wifi in one device. I recently changed and kept this device but disabled the Wifi and connected a Netgear Nighthawk Wifi/Router to the Arris because the Wifi on the Nighthawk is better than the Wifi on the Arris.

But the modem MUST be compatible with the Spectrum internet speed package you have (or will have). If you want my opinion (which you probably don't), I would purchase the 100mbps Spectrum internet package then buy the compatible modem (return your old modem). I would be glad to coach you through how to buy modems/routers/wifi. I bought my modem and wifi used on eBay and spent 1/3rd versus new. Only a few years old and works totally fine. Your call.

Make sense Pop?
