April, I've got a couple of cows now. I'm getting ready to have them bred. If one of them has a male calf, he will eventually go into the freezer for meat.
I don't want to do that, and I know it will be difficult to take an animal that I've raised and send him to that fate. But I've decided that I'm ready to quit being a hypocrite. I eat meat and I will continue doing so. So I have two choices:
(1) Continue being a hypocrite and eat meat from the grocery store. I have no idea what that animal was fed, what it was injected with or how it was treated. But chances are good that it was fed stuff I don't want in my body, injected with all sorts of antibiotics and it probably stood in a crowded feed lot knee deep in poop.
(2) Quit being a hypocrite and raise my own beef. Let it graze on grass pasture on my 16 acres
supplemented with good grass hay. Give it good shelter and clean water and let it have a good life while on this earth.
