Barbarians! Works both ways though. One mid-winter day I come out of the house and look over next door and there's a Flicker (basically a woodpecker...beautiful bird) with her feet frozen in a puddle of ice/slush. She couldn't move. Perched on top of her was a crow pecking her brains in. I went over and chiseled the little feathered sweetheart out of the puddle and keep her under a laundry basket overnight...complete with water, wood chips and a little branch she could perch on. She looked none the worse for wear and the next morning I released her. She seemed VERY happy!
