Time for @Hulamoon to check in. I know the volcano is on the other side of the island but... Just need you to check in and let us know you're ok.
I is OK - I live on Oahu (home to Honolulu and Waikiki - where I live). The volcanoes are on the island of Hawaii or "the big island" which is a big island because of the volcanoes. That made a whole lot of sense didn't it...:D.Thanks everyone for checking. Love you all.

Yep, I got the islands wrong. :)

Glad you're ok! I was wondering if the clouds are impacting you at all.

I hated it too when I was doing it , but not being able to really chafes my azz , makes no sense huh ?
It makes total sense. I know what you meant. I almost hate telling you this but you remind me of my neighbor. He had back surgery. Ended up with several vertebrae fused together. He can't work around the yard anymore and that's all he used to do. He was outside all the time. Not anymore. Now he fights depression cuz it gets him down. I'm not trying to get you down by even saying this but it appears you're already there. At least disgusted. If knowing you're not alone helps then it is worth passing on this anecdotal story. You might just be stubborn enough not to let it dominate the rest of your life (i.e., adjust, adjust, adjust).

Hubs doesn't like being able to do what he was able to not that long ago. The spinal stenosis and cancer have taken their toll.It gets him down at times but overall he maintains his more cheerful self. He was never big on yard work so he doesn't miss that. However he's a self-employed mechanic and body man that can't do most of the work anymore without help.

    1) Your pesticide man has been round the units, 2) mold/mildew,problem with drain pan 3) your neighbors are using mothballs/camphor as an insect repellent and it's coming through into your unit, 4) pilot light off with a gas appliance

I googled "smells like mothballs under the sink" and got a lot of results.
Mold is the top of them.
Doesn't take much of a leak to start growth.

    Thanks, friends!

Yeah, mold was one I found. I’ve checked thoroughly. If it’s there, it’s behind the wall. Cleaned it all out and wiped it down just in case. Again.

Just now I put my nose right at the fire extinguisher nozzle. I think that’s the smell! Maybe it just started leaking. Anyway I’ll keep my eye (nose) on it. Stuff like this drives me crazy. (Short trip that!)

I remembered our girl was near Waikīkī. However, I thought hers was the one referred to as The Big Island. I was going to ask her to check in too. So you’re not the only one who had it wrong!

Evening....The day wasn't bad and I should have been done early. But my dispatcher is a Jerk so I knew that wasn't going to happen.

I “loved” the pic in the rating. But I hate that your dispatcher is a jerk.

Tell you what. Go ahead and have an extra beer tonight. Your friends approve. :)

Sounds right LA - the extinguisher is leaking gas. Some gases don't smell so they deliberately add a stinky component to it, to alert the owner to possible problems or dangers. Definitely remove it from the unit and replace. If the smell's still around after that, being in a condo unit, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a major leak has festered behind walls. I've lived in various condos and the horrors I've seen! If that is the case, I wouldn't recommend taking major sniffs of the cupboard, Yikes! but have a plumber come round who can ensure it's not black mold or something.

Agreed! Being so hot here, I have to think where i can store it. And figure out where I can take it for disposal. Gotta see if the company on the tag is still around.

Fingers crossed that it’s the extinguisher. Last year someone in an adjoining unit flooded their unit and two below us. The hose on their toilet blew off and sprayed for several days while they were out of town! It was a disaster. Professional cleanup crews were brought in for all affected units. Ours was fine. But I’m really hoping the incident didn’t cause mold growth in the walls or under the flooring. Did I mention fingers crossed?!?

Hula, I am so glad you are okay. I took a nap, and 3 hours later I woke up. I was exhausted to say the least.

Retic, I do understand what you are feeling to a certain degree. I also had a life changing event, and I could not do what I used to do either. The last few years have really taken a toll on me. Even so I can most likely do more than you can, and I hope you can get better with this new doctor's help. Just keeping up with the dogs wears me out, but they are worth it and they brighten my day. They are very loyal and protective of me. I know you like cats, but maybe a service dog could be beneficial for you? It is worth considering.

Aww thanks Robin. We have north easterly winds right now, which are great. When we get "kona winds" (make that "no winds" where I live) however, we do get "vog" (volcano fog) - heavy foggy looking haze, which can make breathing difficult for those who have breathing problems anyway.

Good Morning Army. One day weekend today, leaving out early tomorrow for Massachusetts.
Took Urlacher to the vet yesterday. Perfect health, doing great. The ladies loved him, and he is well behaved around women. Good thing the vet and assistant were both female.

Have a Safe and Blessed Day :)

Weird random question for y’all - Has anyone ever had a mothball smell under their sink? I’ve been searching all kinds of ways but can’t find a reason for it.

There are very few household cleansers under there, so I don’t think that’s it.

There’s a fire extinguisher, but it’s not out of date and the gauge indicates it’s not leaking.

Just had a plumber here to install a new faucet and replace the hot water valve. No plumbing issues found.

It’s a mystery. I did read that there are chemicals in the water supply that can smell like mothballs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I believe napthalene is the key odor of moth balls, do you have a container of insecticide down there??

All true! But when I moved here, the temps were 105 - 116. And no mothball smell. It just came up suddenly. That’s what has me mystified and on the hunt for some logical reason. I’m not worried about it. It just triggered my obsessive nature. ;)

another thought... is the wall the sink is mounted to shared with another unit? maybe your neighbor has some and the fumes are working there way thru the holes in the wall for the plumbing....
