Hula, I am so glad you are okay. I took a nap, and 3 hours later I woke up. I was exhausted to say the least.

Retic, I do understand what you are feeling to a certain degree. I also had a life changing event, and I could not do what I used to do either. The last few years have really taken a toll on me. Even so I can most likely do more than you can, and I hope you can get better with this new doctor's help. Just keeping up with the dogs wears me out, but they are worth it and they brighten my day. They are very loyal and protective of me. I know you like cats, but maybe a service dog could be beneficial for you? It is worth considering.
Cats are my wife's choice , large dogs and large snakes are mine , couldn't handle a python right now , don't know if I qualify for a service dog but it's a thought . Really want an ovcharka , Hula knows what that is .

LOL OHHH. I thought you liked cats, since I knew you had them. I didn't know they were just your wife's cats. I think dealing with an Ovcharka might be too much for you right now. They are massive dogs for sure, and probably very expensive.

I have seen a service dog on tv that could bring his master drinks out of the fridge, turn on lights or off, retrieve things for them, and all kinds of stuff. I think some of them have even been trained to call for help if you are having a medical emergency. Some dogs just cheer you up, and help you out. You need a smart dog like I have. She is amazing. She is my companion, protector, my enforcer and my helper all rolled up into one.

Just because they are the "wife's cats" doesn't mean they wont become his cats. You know how cats are. They have an odd way of choosing who their buddies are.

It was four years ago we lost our friend, Bobby Ivie (aka, bivie). I think of you often Bobby. You were as gentle and gracious on the inside as you were side splittingly funny on the outside. I miss you Bobby. But we know you're in heaven and as fine as frog hair. Rest in peace Friend and enjoy playing your favorite riffs with Alvin Lee.

I believe napthalene is the key odor of moth balls, do you have a container of insecticide down there??

I don’t. So far we have no insect issues. The community has regular treatments done. Our water has had an even worse chemical smell. Water supplies elsewhere have been found to have traces of naphthalene in them. With our drought who knows what kinds of water recycling they are trying to do.

We don’t drink tap water and neither do our cats. Nasty smelling stuff!

another thought... is the wall the sink is mounted to shared with another unit? maybe your neighbor has some and the fumes are working there way thru the holes in the wall for the plumbing....

It’s an inside wall. But the units are laid out the same, so the downstairs neighbor’s sink is probably directly below ours. The fumes could be coming from there.

So true! And cats have a funny way of choosing the one who professes not to like them. Cats know that’s not true. And in their perversity, they love annoying that person by choosing that one as their best buddy. :)

Urlacher loves cats. He loves chasing them down, stepping on their spines, grabbing them by their heads and swinging them back and forth violently. Then he lets go and watches them flip end over end across the yard before trying to chase them down and repeat the process.

Cats don't choose us for some reason.

P.S. He almost got himself another squirrel this morning, but the little bugger got to the tree line just in time.

I have an attack cat , the wife had to have her but she hates my wife . Clawed and bit her badly enough for my wife to need medical care . The cat loves me even though I'll swat her if she does something I don't like . She wails when I leave the house , and she melts if I pick her up , my wife isn't allowed to , she won't tolerate my wife handling her . Not much I can do about it , guess she's my cat . I can't dislike an animal that loves me . I always had german sheperds when I was younger , the cats took some getting used to . Still prefer a dog though .

Hope the day is going well for everyone. I hate when the timer goes off on something I put on to cook and when I go to check I discover I turned on the wrong burner..o_O

Store run done and yard mowed. Also was at Tire Discounters for 2 hours getting four tires on the truck.($550). Still have some tread on the old ones but to many little age cracks for me. So That makes about $1400 in the truck. As long as nothing goes wrong that should do it. Better than a new payment. Next up I think will be new hearing aids then the fence. Maybe I can find somebody else to do the fence..;)

Papaw your dog hasn't met the right cat yet then. When he does it will be no laughing matter. I used to have a cat that backed up every dog but one. I think that one caught her by surprise. Luckily I heard the commotion and went out there chasing the dog with a broom, who was hot on the trail of my cat. My cat ran up in a tree. If she had been backed into a corner, it would've been a nasty fight. This was when I was a kid, and that cat even backed down the neighborhood cat killer who happened to be a GSD. That dog also fathered most of the puppies within a 2 mile radius at least. The dog that was hot on her trail wasn't a big dog, but he was camo colored. That dogs owner kept him chained to his dog house, and once a day or so they would let him off the chain, and he would run until he was give out. Then he came back. His tongue would be hanging to the ground practically and then he was happy until the next go 'round.

Cassie almost got a taste of the claws from my daughter's old cat. Luckily I saw it and put an end to that. Cassie guards her food from the cats, and Bella. She will let me touch her food bowl, and I can hand feed her and she is gentle. If one of the cats walks by, it is on. I let Cassie know that it is not a good idea to run after the cats. She is hard headed though. She isn't nearly as quick at dodging as Bella is though. A snake struck at Bella a few times and missed her. Once I saw what it was, I jerked Bella in the house while she was on the leash. The snake was near my doorway. Bella still looks for the snake. I was horrified to say the least.

Oh Papaw, Bella also hates squirrels and cats that don't belong here. She wants to chase them off my property. Luckily when I have her on leash, she doesn't get her wish. Thankfully I am strong enough to hold her back. She tolerates my cats, but doesn't trust them. She hasn't tried to attack them, but if they are being bad, she does rush them and bark at them, and they hate that with a passion. Cassie doesn't pay the cats or squirrels any attention really. She is too busy sniffing the ground, but she will bark at strangers for sure.

UH HUH...so you DO have a cat!!! Yes, cats can be like that.
When my son lived here the wild cat loved him. He said he didn't have a cat, but he played with her and she snuggled with him whenever possible. She mourned for him after he left. Then she decided I wasn't too bad so she settled for me. She still recognizes my son when he comes home. She visits with him, but she knows he won't be staying. She enjoys his visits, but that is about it. That cat is jealous of both of my dogs too.

That's how it was here too ret. Can't explain it. Just how it was. One exception. The cat liked both of us. All the others gravitated to me.

Neighbor got two kitten. They had two dogs too. A pit and a boxer/bulldog mix. One of them killed one of the kittens. The other one grew up and clawed the hell out of both of the dogs leaving them a bloody face. They steered clear ever since.

Never heard of them. I know you do your homework. What made these stand out to you?

Urlacher steps on smaller animals first. Don't know why, but he just does.
Most dogs attack with their teeth, which puts them with range of a cat's claws. And yes they are sharp.
But with 80 lbs of Sheppard standing on their back, cats usually can't fight back as well.

Hula, I saw that video a good while back. But I did not see the wounds the kid got. That cat was AMAZING! I was shocked that the cat protected the child like that. Cats can be creepy and make your hair stand straight up sometimes. They have a little hellion in them or something. Thanks for sharing that video. That dog needed a mud hole stomped in him for sure. I hope they found out whose dog it was!
