Better get on it if you want a smooth Sunday. :)

We live at the end of a long gravel drive about a quarter of a mile out in Nowhereville, KY. Each year, if left untreated it becomes a mess with weeds, grasses and small saplings. My task for this day, since we won't have rain for several hours, is to mount up the 25 gallon sprayer, fill it up with a herbicide mixture, get the ole Deere fired up and spray that bugger good. I will be a hero in just a couple of days (for a couple of days).

A couple for a couple? Not a bad return on investment as wives go.

I really don't care what the yard looks like...But there are some things that must be done. Roundup for edging, 10 bags of top soil for the sinking holes where the trees were. The mower is starting to bottom out on them. Will likely have to do it again. Also I may not have a dog (yet) but bug killer must be used on the lawn or face the consequences. And I'm sure you all know what it's like to have a chirping cricket in the house. That you can't find..:sneaky:

Get that tank filled and get sprayin' before her offer changes!

It is complete. One of the best things I ever got was that 25 gallon sprayer with wands that extend over to both sides of the roadway. I did that one year with a four gallon back pack sprayer, which I had to walk back twice to refill. I was younger then and with a lot of age came a little ("little" used advisedly) wisdom. I now do a better job in far less time and my language has improved. I used to say bad words, fortunately no one lives around us to be offended (easy to do these days).

I had not thought of a refurbished laptop; since I closed up my office, a computer is is more of a toy than an income generating device. I had my eye on a System 76 but I like your idea better. I will keep this in mind as well as your offer, Open office will open and use all of my old files should I need to do that. My greatest concern was finding drivers for Linux and getting a printer/scanner/fax to work.
Newegg, huh? I just looked, very interesting idea.

You don't need a laptop " designed " for linux , any laptop designed for Windoze will run linux , with the exception of some Lenovo laptops , Lenovo and MS did some shady crap with the bios of what they called Windows enterprise laptops preventing people from installing linux by removing access to the hard drive settings in the bios . It backfired on the SOB's when it was discovered you couldn't reinstall Windows either . Other than those , any laptop will do . Some companies are ripping people off by selling laptops that are designed for linux , actually they're charging you money for installing a free operating system on a regular laptop . Some of the Linux distros do sell laptops with their version pre-installed , usually nice systems but pricey . I've been running Linux for several years now and I just set BK up with a dual boot system as well . You can always shoot me a PM if you need some advice about setting up a Linux system .

On the tech side I came across something last night. And I've changed my DNS serve away from google to a new DNS....1.1.1.1 — the Internet’s Fastest, Privacy-First DNS Resolver
No issues so far and seems to be just a touch faster...Time will tell how well it does...

I used "namebench" to test my DNS. I ended using one out of Waco, Kentucky. I had no idea that Waco even had such a thing in that little town. For me, the change was quite an improvement, that is my subjective perception anyway.

I may give this 1.1.1.1 a try for privacy reasons.

Question did you change the DNS setting on your computer or on you router?

Changed the PC and laptop. May have to check the router.

A System 76 is a really nice laptop but really pricey as you know . Ubuntu implemented a protocol developed by Apple called Airprint I believe that acts as a universal driver for wifi printers to make it easier to set up . Apple's OS is Unix based and so is Linux , Apple had a need to develop this as most drivers are written for Windoze . It makes things a lot easier . BK and I have done a lot of business with Newegg over the years building computers with parts purchased through them . We both are using refurbished desktop systems that I ripped the guts out of and rebuilt for gaming that were purchased from them . Both systems have dual hard drives and dual boot Linux Mint and Windoze 10 . If you don't need portability refurbished desktops are cheaper than laptops with better performance and upgradibility .

Good lead David! I always used my ISP DNS server. This is the first time straying from them. Much quicker! Though it wasn't bad before. Lightning quick now. I really want it more for the security. Thanks for sharing this service lead. I know you do your research. Appreciated!

I don't use wifi, so it won't help me. Otherwise I would try it out.
Works on an ethernet set up too. That's what I have it on.

Okay thanks Bronze. I set it up. I think I used to have Open DNS in the past, but stopped using it. I will see if this is faster. Thanks David for bringing this to our attention!

retic is an Expert on Linux, and I use the word sincerely. You will have one of the best to help you out. Only reason I'm not into Linux yet, is because at work, everything's on MS, including mail. Therefore I need to access from home or any other place I may be.......hmmm....nah....I'm a boring old fart, so there really isn't "any other place I may be". I draw the line on MS mail on my personal phone however, as those 1984 MS creeps conditions include the ability to erase everything on it (for one freaking app? Hahahahhaha) So, my dear and beloved co-workers, if you're here anonymously and reading this, if it wasn't important enough to tell me during the work week, then Phhbbttt, it's unimportant enough for me to even give a fig when I ain't.:D

For some reason the new DNS server is giving me fits. I have no idea why. If I ever went to that site before, it sometimes takes 4-5 times to get it to connect. Very strange. I'm still playing with it, but it is getting late now. I took a pic of what it tells me a lot of times. I keep refreshing and it finally goes through.
