Good Morning Army. Nothing worse than a toothache on the weekend.

Would be nice to be able to go out on a canoe fishing at his age. :)

At HIS age ... ??? If you had a beard, how much white hair would be there ?
I'll give you a hint : We're the same age, and mine is nearly all white now.

Have a Safe and Blessed Day, and a Great Weekend :)

Good evening Army.

Getting ready to fly out tomorrow morning to go to another baby shower with daughter's in-law side. Quick weekend jaunt. Fly out tomorrow and back home Monday.

Sitting in limbo at the moment. Waiting to hear back (should be this coming Wednesday) on whether it's a go for the HIPEC. This regime of chemo has failed.

If HIPEC is off the table, will be trying another chemo combo. Trying to stay positive.

Love you guys.

Good that you're lining up your options so you don't have to waste time. Seems like the regimen you're on is just keeping things at status quo. What do you think your chances are for HIPEC?

The surgeons nurse relayed to me that he thinks I would be a good candidate. If he didn't think so, my case wouldn't even be presented to the tumor board.

Well, at the airport and getting ready to board. Have a wonderful weekend and try not to sweat the small stuff!!!

Robin, I am sorry to hear this regimen did not work for you. I did notice you have been quiet lately, and maybe that had something to do with it. Taking a trip would be perfect for you right now. Get your mind off of it for a little while. I hope you have fun while you are gone, that in itself is good medicine!!

We are going to have a hot day again today. Last night they said we would see 96 for a high today. I have no idea what the real feel will be, but I am sure it will be well into the 100's. Tomorrow we may see a good deal of rain, so it will cool down a bit. We need rain for sure, but not super heavy downpours. (or worse)

I barely did any repotting yesterday. It was just too hot. I did mix up some more soil for my succulents though. I used something for the drain hole in my pots that didn't work well, so I am redoing those. The soil was too wet, so for now I am using something else. Almost all of my succulents and cactus are in clay pots.

Who makes these decisions? A tumor board? What's that?

Who makes these decisions? A tumor board? What's that?

A tumor board makes decisions on whether or not a chosen surgery is appropriate for each case. These are the best eyes and minds that deal with cancers everyday.

The best surgeons are board certified and consult with each other. I prefer to have a board certified surgeon instead of a doctor that will just do what I want and probably do a bad job while looking at money as their bottom line.

There will be a team working with me and on me. Not only the surgeon that will do the HIPEC but a GI specialist and a gynecologist oncologist surgeon. They will be removing my ovaries and uterus (if it's a go).

I'm fine with them getting rid of those parts since I am well past child bearing age. The less things in me that are vulnerable to cancer metastasis the better.

HIPEC is a long surgery. First they find and cut out any tumors that are present, then remove my lady parts, then use a heated chemo to wash the inside of my belly to hopefully kill any lingering cancer floaters. The GI surgeon will be on hand in case any of my remaining colon shows cancer in or on it.

It is a major surgery that can take up to 9 hours. As always, there is risk. I'm willing to take that risk. It does not guarantee that I will be cancer free nor does it guarantee that the cancer won't come back elsewhere. In my mind, the saving grace is that none of my lymph nodes have shown cancer.

Chemo rarely makes cancer die completely. It just gets people into a place where surgery becomes an option where it wasn't before.

Even if it buys me more time, it will be worth it.

I tend to get more introspective when things aren't going well. I truly hate burdening people with my problems. I absolutely adore the Army. I don't want to bring anyone down. I remember when Frank got his diagnosis he was ready to go to the Lord. I admired his strength and conviction as he prepared to meet his God. I'm not ready to be as gracious. There is too much fight in me.

Until all options are exhausted...
