Boneless skinless chicken breast, soaked in salt water brine for an hour, then basted with olive oil containing garlic, rosemary, lemon pepper and oregano.
Roasted potatoes basted in the same olive oil mixture.
Veggie shish kabobs basted in the same olive oil mixture.
Grilled with applewood chips for smokey flavor.
Mamaw gave the entire meal an 'A' :thumb:

Good Morning Army from the doctor's office. Another evaluation for my neck. Thinking I should be able to continue working with current limitations, namely no tarping and no overnight runs.
The paysheet will not look as nice, but at least I should be able to continue working.

Morning! Family made it in very late Saturday/ very early Sunday. Yesterday just a tiny bit got settled in. More just watching dogs so they learn what to do or not do.

Today will be about unpacking and storing all suitcases etc... then pool time for sure. It is going to be a scorcher today.

I'm over the moon :D. At least for a while

The temperature is 100 deg right now. It is almost 7p. What a way to jump start July! :tumble:

9:11 pm and a humid 80 in the NORTHeast. This just ain't right.

That truly ain’t right! There’s a saying in Vegas that it’s not really summer until it’s 90 degrees at midnight. And the cold water from your faucet is lukewarm all the time.

But you two are not in the desert! Well, Texas has some desert-like areas maybe. But wow.

It was so hot I made two kinds of iced tea. Regular organic black tea with honey and lemon. And grated ginger tea with honey. The ginger is excellent for digestion and for reducing inflammation. My neck was almost inflammation free last night. Or at least less pain, so sleep was better. :)

Wonderful! So they will live with you? Temporarily, or for the long haul?

Mind blown! I’m not a fan of pancakes. But the best way to use sourdough “discard” is to make some pancakes with it. I hate waste, and if I’m not making a batch of crackers, pizza dough or baguettes, I have to just toss some of the starter. It hurts my heart. My sourdough starter is like a pet. I mean, I feed it twice a day, so... (and it doesn’t barf on my carpet OR in my shoes. Good girl, Sourdough!)

I just made and loved sourdough pancakes! The recipe used coconut oil which I love, but you can use butter.

Anyone on a budget would do well to consider making sourdough starter. So useful, healthy and a great base for lots of inexpensive, home-made dishes. :)

And if anyone decides to try, I’ll be glad to share my tips. AKA, all the bone-headed mistakes I made before getting it right.

All you need is a jar, a $10 digital scale, flour and water. A little time and patience to get it going.

And, yes, Chak is up there laughing and saying, “I tried to tell ya!”

LA, no I don't live anywhere near a desert. FranC doesn't either. She doesn't live in my state though. Tomorrow should be better. I saw haze again this morning. I haven't even looked at the sky this afternoon, because it is too hot and the sun is very bright. You feel like you are cooking out there, even in the shade. I live in a humid place in the summer especially. Dry air isn't as bad as humid air, when it comes to the real feel. As I write this the temperature is 100 deg F. I didn't even look at the real feel. Tomorrow the high should be in the high 90's, but we have a slight chance of rain.

Congrats on the sourdough, I love it. Sounds like you are trying new things, and enjoying life. You can't beat that.

7:05p-still 100 deg F. It should've dropped at least a degree by now.

Good evening army,
wow, haven't checked in here since friday and you slap >100 new posts on... just read through them all, mostly.

so I'm back in Cincy, made it in last Monday, was supposed to arrive on Sunday but my flight out of JFK just didn't make it. At first - after rushing through immigration, customs and security (only had 90 minutes to transfer) - "technical maintenance issues" and back to the gate, then they couldn't find a crew, after they did and after waiting for two hours on the tarmac back to gate again - air traffic congestion, bad weather between NYC and Cincy. Flight cancelled.
After a little "discussion" I could convince one of the gate ladies to pay for a hotel - after all I was up 24hrs by then. (not the one with the attitude who didn't give away _anything_ and let a mom and kid who were flying in from Israel and were up even longer sleep in the airport). Had to fly out of a LaGuardia, hotel was right next to JFK, so had a little fun in Monday morning NYC rush hour with the cab driver (who AA paid for too). He knew his ways, VanWyck was all clogged up, he took only back roads and we made it in time.

Spent three nights at friends out in the 'burbs and finally arrived at my dog sitting gig in Clifton on thursday. Took those guys to the airport and getting along with the dog real nice.

Went to the FC Cincinnati game on Saturday in a brutal heat - 94, hi humidity, felt like 104. But I survived through it, kept only drinking light beer to stay hydrated :D

@robino: so happy your count is heading in the right direction, whatever works, works! ;)

@kkay59 : you really have Sahara dust here in the US? We get that a lot lately in Germany during summer with cars getting all yellow and stuff. But never thought it would make it over here. Crazy.

@Bronze: The guys whose house I'm sitting had the AC off, couldn't survive without it. Cranked it up as soon as I came back from the airport and haven't looked back ever since. It's an old house, the second floor is still a bit hot, the third is uninhabitable. Glad you got it fixed after one night. Did you sleep at all?

To all whose posts I forgot to mention here, and to everyone on this thread. Happy 4th, hope you're having a blast. I'm invited to a party and this guy (who runs a construction material warehouse) had a huuuge crate full of fireworks coming in from Iowa for me. Really looking forward to that. It's my first independence day here in the US.

Stay cool, stay hydrated! Heading out to my neighborhood bar for beers'n'burger later:)
Watching the Reds game right now and going down to the ballpark tomorrow. I have tickets left, anyone wanna come?

Doggy and me at the park - hot but tolerable, could stay there all day if I didn't have to do some actual work:
