did you know that most window units create more heat than they cool? I took a Heat transfer class in college and one of the "show n tell" items was a window unit in an "ice chest" ( basically a insulated box 2.5' cube with 3" closed cell insulation) ... the temp was taken at the beginning of the class ( 76F), the lid applied and the unit turned on... ( the unit is completely inside the box) at the end of class the temp in the box had risen about 28 F higher ( to 104F) than at the start of class... and, the unit inside was a very efficient one to boot...
so.... we are adding to the global warming by trying to cool off :)

Good Morning Army. Mamaw's Aunt Georgie died this week, in her late '80's. She was one of those "on her own" Relatives, you hear about but never really meet. Mamaw will be leaving today to head home for a few days while I tend to the house (laundry) and the fur babies (Lily needs shots).
Bacon Cheddar Burgers, Hot dogs and Grilled Potatoes, along with some leftover Spaghetti should hold me over.
Send some rain this way ! These "pop up" showers that the Piedmont is famous for have been avoiding my house all summer. The Lawn has suffered badly, at least half is dead and gone. You can see dust fly up whenever Urlacher is playing ball. I am ordering a drum style aerator as I will be overseeding this fall. More Homeowner fun type that Lori loves so much.
And August isn't even here yet !

Have a Safe and Blessed Day (and stay cool !) :)

I eat a number of different brands. From store brand to name brand. I've tried most of them. What I've found is to let the pizza thaw for a bit before putting it in the toaster oven. And I buy pepperoni to add to them. They all get cooked at 375 degrees'. Cook time is 20 minutes give or take. I go by how it looks to tell when it's done to my liking.:)
What does a thaw do for the pizza? And why only 375?

Bronze my window unit is set on 60. That is as low as it will go. The temperature inside in my small living room is in the low 80's. So I went to the store this evening, and got another fan for the living room to move more air. I have one near the a/c unit to push air further from it. Then I have another one now to oscillate, and move air in the room. Now it is just tolerable for me. The kitchen and dining room are of course hotter than the living room. There is only one window in this part of the house, and it is in the living room.

The NWS says it will be a high of 108 tomorrow. Who knows what the heat index will be. I didn't want to wait until tomorrow and all the fans were sold out!
I have cathedral ceilings in this house and a wide open floor plan so the upstairs and downstairs are seamless other than the bedrooms. Also have two AC units. One for up and one for down. The upstairs unit runs more than twice as much as the downstairs unit. So I turn the ceiling fan on in the living room and suck downstairs air to the upstairs. It helps.

thats cuz alot of people are advertizing and youre not reading them ;)
Then why does the number go down?

Half my prize winning lawn is dead. Knew that would happen. Lawns do not do well in N. Carolina. All I'm doing is aerating and seeding in the Fall. I cannot do all that back breaking work anymore. No more raking.

Instead of raking -
Once you have finished mowing, raise the deck as high as it will go, speed up the engine and drive slowly over the clumps and trail of accumulated clippings. Spreading them out will actually help feed the lawn.
I meant raking up the surface of the soil prior to spreading the seed (like you're supposed to do).

Well today I am hearing various reports of estimated highs for today. 105-109. Let's just say it is going to be close to, or exceeding the record high.

Last night the edition of the 2nd fan did really help. The new fan is too loud at full speed. I put it a notch below that. It is pointed straight at me. It is pushing the cool air from the a/c unit. The oscillating fan was set on low, and close to me. That way the air is more cooling, but the other two rooms will be hotter. I don't care about that right now. The main thing is I am a bit cooler in the room I'm in the most. So I have air just about surrounding me that way. I am glad that I decided to get the 2nd fan. The lady at the store I bought this one from told me where they were located, IF any were left. I hurried over there and snatched this one up!

Thawing a bit makes it cook more evenly. As for the temp I've found 375 is lower than most instructions call for. But a little slower cooking time is better. Just have to adjust the time. Which is why I go 10 minutes then check it and turn it. It's just what I've found works best for me.:)

It looks like the heat from Texas is going on up into Oklahoma. I also see Denver at 95 degrees, which is a surprise!

It was so hot on my porch (even in the shade), that I moved my plants closer to the wall. The sun was about to creep in on the outskirts of the porch anyway. Normally that isn't a big deal. When I moved one table, it was very hot. It had metal legs. The other two tables are plastic. They are all small tables, not picnic tables.

Last night I noticed more traffic than usual. I think people were waiting to shop or whatever, once the sun went down. (like I did) We have about a 9-10 mph wind, and the heat will make you feel bad in 5 minutes out there. I hope Pappy didn't overdo it working out there. Maybe he will check in before long. I'm staying home, and the only time I go out is if I have to take one of the dogs out.

I’m a fan of fans. When you’re sweating, that air current across your skin cools you down real nicely.

When the central AC broke down in my former house, window units did the trick. A couple of them downstairs and 3 of them upstairs. I couldn’t afford to get the doggone central AC fixed.

In these parts, you either have AC or you move to a saner locale. :)

Well today the temperature here was the same as yesterday. So thankfully it wasn't worse, as predicted. Still it is blazing hot, even now. I am kicked back with the two fans, and the window unit running wide open. As long as I don't move around, it is actually decent. ;) I got a jump start on both fans, so right now it is only 80 degrees. It may climb to 81, but I can handle this temporarily. I much prefer the mid 70's, but this is going to have to do. I still haven't heard from Pappy. I hope he didn't get overheated.

I'm kicked back watching a movie. I just thought I'd pop in for a minute. I could easily take a nap right now, but I'd better not. I will be up till the wee hours if I did, for sure.

95 here with a heat index of 108. The humidity is going down, as it usually does once it starts really heating up. They are calling for 105 today. One more day of horrific heat, then back to extremely hot. It will probably be another week before we get back to normal temperatures here.

I have been watching videos, and doing as little as possible. I already brought all my plants up, and tucked them closer to the wall on the porch for protection.

I am going to throw some Pirate's Booty into the Reo. This batch is pretty good. I still haven't found that extra spicy flavor it had the first time I tried it though, a few years ago. Still I like it now and then. The last time I got juice, I ordered the Caramel Apple Tobacco that Bronze likes. I like it too, but don't want it all the time. I haven't had this in a good while, so after it has aged a bit longer, I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Well it's 72 with 70% humidly and a light wind.. Just put some dirt in the tire tracks the gas people didn't fill and more grass seed. Also treaded the yard for bugs so I don't have a spider/cricket invasion. o_O

seems that the spiders would eat the crickets...............
