welll.. the wifey just told me that her brothers house in Malibu got totaled.... and his neighbors homes are gone too.. just those 3 homes were more than 15 million $...

Sounds like her brother might be a little better off, but then again think of all the free entertainment your wife gets ! :D

I was 26 when my my Grandfather died. He was 95. He lost his leg in France during WW1 when he was blown off his motorcycle from a shell that detonated near him. No one is certain how long he laid unconscious in the French countryside. By the time they found him the gangrene set in. Somehow they saved his life but they had to take his leg. So for the last 68 years of his life he hobbled on one leg. No idea how he ever survived. Like many veterans of the war, he chose not to speak of it other than the occasional laughs he and his men had pulling pranks on one another. However, one day I worked up the courage to ask him how he could muster the hate and courage to shoot another man. He said, "It's easy when you have bullets flying past your head". That's all I ever got out of him. My Grandpa is still the toughest SOB I ever knew.

In my family tree, I have over 100 men who died in WWI. Recently in UK, the whacknuts are out demanding to ban the poppy appeal and remembrance day, based on 11/11/1918 at 11 a.m. Armistice Day, because it was "a white man's war", an "imperial war" blah blah blah bs bs bs. Downright obscene. I guess you can't change and rewrite history if the damn proles keep honoring and remembering it. Makes me mad as a wasp in a bottle. To all those who served, I thank you.

Amen!!

If we re-write history to delete all the bad parts, how will we ever learn from our mistakes?

I am so sorry - it’s an unimaginable loss. I’m glad they were able to get out safely.

When we were in SoCal, heading to Zuma Beach was a treat. Fried clams at Malibu Seafood. It’s not clear how much of it survived. Malibu isn’t all mansions & celebrities.

I saw some info that the Malibu area fire may have started where there used to be a nuclear power plant. About 60 yrs ago there was a meltdown and the plant was closed but never cleaned up. The same article said not to worry, none of the barely buried toxic waste had burned. That’s hard to believe when you see the images of the inferno!

Family who live in S Pasadena told us that the smoke drifting to their area from this fire is especially acrid.

Ultimately the wacknuts will win, they never quit - I think the mindset belongs in the DSM.

@Bunnykiller so glad your wife’s family got out ok. I’m so sorry for their losses. The fires are just so devastating. It’s very sad.

Big shoutout to all the veterans today, and prayers to those first responders fighting those flames.

What a horrible war it was. Mustard and chlorine gas. Really? How barbaric can it get? I ignore the whacks.

I've been busy with the weather conditions since yesterday. Twice the amount of a good day of rain from yesterday to this morning. Raining now, but not hard. Other states on down the line are getting a taste of it. Next we get some hard freezes with cold wind. The wind chill is going to be rough.
