Mornin All...

even tho its 1pm
woke up at 3am and no power... went on my run to Lake Charles and just got back, power came on about an hour ago and the main thru-way is still closed down ( it was being closed down when I left), cant even get close to the area, must have been something near catastrophic since there are about 20 Power trucks parked in the Wal Mart parking lot... Good thing I know the area well ( all the sneaky back streets and gaps between the houses that my car will fit thru), or it would have been a real fun time getting back in....

You probably found this by now. This new stuff site has video from a local showing massive multiple transformers arcing in your town. Yikes!

well that was KEWL!!!... and it didnt wake me up either ( I must have been really tired)
that happened a mere 3 blocks away from where I live too. ( walking distance) and once again the news gets the facts wrong... power was out at 3:22 or earlier...

from viewing the video,,, it looked like a cascade failure. the wind whips the wires around to get close enuf to each other and a phase to phase arc occurs which in turn overheats the transformers and as the transformers blow out the arc continues up the line to each successive transformer knocking them out till it gets to the main inline fuse set, where it finally stops progressing... the lines on W. Esplanade are the main feeders into Kenner... no wonder why most of Kenner was without power for nearly 12 hrs.

that has got to be one of the slowest moving storms Ive ever seen today.... I drove thru it 3 times in the last 18 hrs ( first time was at 5am and then at 10 am and one more time at 10pm)... its finally making its way here... thunderboomers are crackin

I saw that happen in Dallas once a few years ago. It started at a transformer down the street and arced its way up the street towards me. The power of the electricity arcing its way up that line is amazing to see, and very very scary. There's no way I would have been doing the filming those folks were doing in your video link.

It really is a lot of work. I think it's time for you and Mrs Pappy to start delegating. Maybe you guys cook the main meal (ham, turkey, or whatever) and tell everyone else to bring the sides and desserts...serve it buffet style. That's how I do it. I just have one item to worry about. Do a group email a week or two out where people sign up to bring different stuff and Mrs Pappy to manage the menu so everything is covered and you don't end up with three broccoli casseroles and no mashed potatoes. And maybe let a little of your inner Scrooge out and lighten up on the decorations. You're too old to be crawling up ladders for that crap anyway...admit it. And what's wrong with the kids helping out with the post dinner clean up? Their arms aint broken. I commiserate with you buddy. It's a ton of work and the load has to be shared. You and the Mrs are allowed to enjoy the holiday too, right? Besides, it's good practice for the young'ns to get in the habit of taking care of ole mom n dad for when y'all can't take care of yourselves and need help changing your diapers.

BTW, after shopping around for wackers the Stihl and Echo brand got the most stars. Husqvarna got honorable mentions.

Amen, brother. We already do some of that, but not enough. So, yes, Mrs. Pappy and I need to tell the rest of the family it's time to step up to the plate.

Glad you got your line trimmer working. It's always satisfying to bring a piece of equipment back to life that you thought was dead and gone, especially when it turns out to be a cheap fix.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I went to WA with the girls. Left my phone in my car at the airport so that made for an interesting trip. You don’t realize how much you need your smart phone till it’s not with you, but by day 3 I was all adjusted and enjoying the freedom.

This one happened last night near Queens, NY. I saw one video that was at least 4 mins long. The arcs kept lighting up the entire sky that whole time! NY’ers didn’t get so close to it to make their videos.

Feel better soon. I read that WA’s 911 service was out. Not sure for how long since I was only skimming the news. So it’s not like you could have called for emergencies anyway! I agree though. It’s amazing how quickly we get dependent on these devices.
