Hiya,Bronze:)
Hiya, Fran!

Hey General!
Did you watch the Alabama/Clemson game? I gave it up at the start of the fourth, I had no idea that beat down would happen.
Yeah, I didn't see that coming either. I made it to halftime. :)

Time for some new teams. The Alabama Clemson thing has been played out.

What I don’t understand is if a fractured root is so menacing and a regular dentist isn’t capable of making a positive ID then why wouldn’t all dentists always send patients to an endo in all root canal cases?

Some do send all root canals to endo, some choose based on root anatomy.. If it looks difficult (extra long or curved roots) my doc sends them.

Teeth treated with endo can last a really long time. But some just don't. Extraction is and should be a last resort, so that's why he wanted the Endo eval. It's hard to know why he sent you without seeing the X-ray. was an abscess starting? Like a dark area at the root tip?

My oldest rolled his truck a little while ago. He is ok, but going to get checked out as soon as the wrecker gets his truck picked up. I'm heading there to take him a vehicle shortly. Y'all pray for his life, because I may throttle him.. Dont get me wrong, I'm sooo thankful he is ok, but he's a maniac behind the wheel. :grr:

No idea. He looks at the tooth xray but is unsure. I'm like, why even take a picture of the thing. Just send me to the endo right away and don't waste my money taking an xray. But, what do I know?

Sadly, this is how many of us learn to settle down. Took me a couple wrecks to lighten up. A bit of luck is needed that it isn't more serious.

I’ll be praying that he gets the message this time. A warning like that should teach one to settle down. Sometimes it doesn’t, as we all know.

Back in PA a neighbor boy named Keith was known by all as a maniac driver. He was bright, sweet, talented at football, still in HS... and refused to learn wisdom about his driving. Those mountain roads around us were narrow with lots of blind curves. Many people living along those roads knew when Keith drove by - far too fast for those or any roads! Keith thought he could control the speed and that his recklessness was excitement.

When he finally had a fatal crash, he was going over 100 mph with his friend in the passenger seat. Keith crashed into an 18-wheeler making a turn onto the flat, 2 lane highway. He and his friend died in the crash. And that poor trucker has to live with that memory and feeling like he had some fault in their deaths.

I pray your son wises up this time!

Three out five playoffs were complete duds, maybe there is a better way to choose who gets in OR just scrap the whole thing and go back to polls as before. Opinions of who is number one or opinions of the four "best teams".

Too often the hall mark of youth is the two headed "S" monster, selfish and stupid.

just my opinion.... maybe he should do without a vehicle for several weeks.... might let him realize the importance of safe driving ....

unless the accident occurred from accident avoidance gone wrong...

Effective and really hard for parents to do these days. Especially if you live somewhere remote. Otherwise you can make them take public transportation or walk. But if you work and your kid has to be driven to work or school, it’s rough.

Too often the hall mark of youth is the two headed "S" monster, selfish and stupid.

You speak truth here. And I know too many old “youth” as well.

you could always make him sit there and watch hours upon hours of Youtube videos of crazy drivers who messed up ;)

there are plenty of them on youtube ...

You have a few of your own dash cam videos that would work. :)

Maybe paying off the truck damage will sink in.

Two warnings I gave my kids and I think they knew I meant it:

    1) If you end up in jail I will not bail you out. You will face the consequences of your illegal actions.

    2) If you get pregnant, I will not raise your child for you. Nor will I be your daycare.

I believe Ms. April is blunt with her girls about point #2 as well. Not sure that was her exact angle but it was equally as blunt. :)

I’ll never know if those points had any effect in outcomes. As far as I know, there was no jail or pregnancy. It felt good to get certain cards out on the table in any case. :)

If this bores you then don't read it. I know Sue and Bridge are probably interested (maybe not).

Well, well. So I went to Dentist #2 for a second opinion today. That was eye opening. With regard to the tooth that the cap came off of (tooth #30). He did the xray and said it looked OK and he should be able to put the cap back on no problem. Then as he was preparing to do that, he said he saw one other tooth where it looked like a cavity was in its beginning stages but it was nothing that needed doing now. Basically, he said let it run its course for now and he can drill n fill down the road when if/when it becomes more apparent. Said he saw no other cavities. Just as he was about to shove his dental tools in my face to put the cap back on I stopped him. I told him I was actually there to get a second opinion. I told him all about Dentist #1 and how he thought it was possible that tooth 30 root was fractured and he was gonna send me to an Endo to confirm. And that tooth 30 also had a cavity. So he backed off and lifted my chair to look at his xray of tooth 30 again. He walked me thru it. He said he sees no signs of a fracture in the root. Dragged his mouse over the area and said usually you see more definition of the root whereas mine was rather faint at best. Said it wasn't that unusual though and said there were no signs whatsoever of a fracture. Additionally, he said there are no signs of a cavity in tooth 30 either. I said are you sure? He asked a few more questions about pain. Said it had a root canal. He said he understands but there is also ligament like stuff around the root that has nerves and if there was something significantly wrong with that root I'd feel pain in the surrounding area. Basically, 2+2=4. Showed me the xray of the tooth and said he could see no cavity. So he put the cap back on and told me he's done and to go home.

So Dentist #1 had me with a possible implant and four other teeth that needed anything from a drill n fill to as many as two crowns. We're talking thou$and$ Dentist #2 put my cap back on and said it looks like I have the beginnings of one cavity that we can watch in the future. $250, thank you very much. Bye. See you next year. Now get out of here and don't let the door hit you in theass. Yes, Sir!

There was a MASH episode where Hawkeye said he got to be a good surgeon through repetitiveness. With all the wounded soldiers constantly coming in day and night and doing so many surgeries he just practiced himself into being a great surgeon. Dentist #2 was a dentist in the Navy. I'm sure the Navy made him work like anyone else. In other words...no doctor's hours. You work a full load. And he probably saw many dozens of sailors every week. Like Hawkeye, he just got damn good through repetitiveness. Do the job, do it right, move on. Don't do any more or any less than is necessary. No frills. He spoke my language and I spoke his.

    Thanks Sue and Bridget. :)
