. . . All these tools see a lot of use and are close or over 10 years old and are still going, on the other hand my brother buys from harbor freight and has to replace his stuff every year or two.

I buy a few things from Horror Freight, but nothing with a battery. I've heard too many stories about their battery powered tools, and they aren't good stories.

Some of HF's stuff is good, some is ok and some is bad. I mainly buy three types of things there: (1) stuff that I know is good and is significantly cheaper than elsewhere (certain hand tools, etc.), (2) disposable stuff (latex gloves, etc.), and (3) specialty tools that I may only need rarely or maybe even just once.

But if it's a hand tool I'll use regularly, I'll buy a name brand like Crescent or ChannelLock somewhere.

Chompers update:

Soooo, Day 5 of using the Sonicare. I’m pretty much adjusted to it. Very little tickling anymore. It actually feels good and I enjoy the hell out of it. I’m up to full intensity and the 3 minute setting. It seems to go by quick. What a job this thing does! Major improvement over a manual brush. I switched back to the 80 cent replacement brush. Obviously I cannot speak to the durability of it but if there is a difference in feel or performance I couldn’t tell.

Five Day Grade:

Well I am kicked back with a mug of Earl Grey tea. I'm listening to the wind and rain. This evening we may get some snow. I could pass on the snow right now. The wind will be northerly, and the wind with it will make it very cold. I hope no trees fall.
I was talking to my daughter on the phone, and I swear one of the twins was trying to say mama. I told my daughter that, and she thought so too. He was saying it over and over. That is a bit young to be saying it for real. It was more like muh muh, instead of mama. He is working on it though. My daughter doesn't know I have said the word mama a few times around them. I said it slowly, so they could practice. Don't tell her that though. I hear dada is an easier thing for babies to say first though. I don't know how true that is.
I warned my daughter they would be brainstorming stuff to get into before she knows it. LOL. She already knows, but I just hope they don't do that while I'm watching them.

I hear you. I rarely use a jig saw, about once a year and bought one from horror freight and it's more then sufficient.

I have the same HF philosophy. If I am going to use it every week or every month, I go else where. And I avoid most battery products, but I do have a digital caliper that I like.

Agree on all counts. And yes, I still have a HF caliper I use often. Can't keep the battery in it but I just put it in when I need it and then take it out when I'm done. HF is good for buying stuff you know you are going to use only seldom. Worked with a guy who when he was done with a tool he let go of it and let gravity take over...including spray guns with the paint still in them. I refused to buy him nice stuff so HF was the ticket. HF is good for older guys too cuz you have to ask, how long does this thing need to last? If I'm 20 and want a floor jack I'll spend the dough and get a name brand I know will last my lifetime. If I'm 85 with a bad back, gout, and brittle bones with one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel I'll buy the cheap Chinese crap at Horror Freight.

Too funny, Bronze. I had to laugh as did Mrs CMD; I know my tools don't need to last and last 'cause I'm not going to. Neither my wife nor daughter have any desire to own a really fine angle grinder.

Hiyuh Rock. Did you place your next order? What did you settle on getting?

Havn't pulled the trigger yet, but I've narrowed it down to Legend, Sludge and Heavenly Army I think. HA sounds interesting and like something I will appreciate. I'm heading to town so might pick up a couple 30Q's, they have them here at a local for 12.99 each which is pretty good for here.
