whoooshhh... been a long day, just got home... started halucinating about 18 miles from home... was seeing those fuzzy black things running across the road ( from right to left)

That is called a "Back Dog". Time to rest for a few days before you kill somebody.

There really is such a thing? Why is it called a “Back Dog?” I’m very curious about this.

It's trucker expression. Fatigue reaches the point where the mind begins to play tricks while the body, in this case your eyes, lock in on single object- the road in front of you.
It can be considered a 'natural distress signal' that your conscience mind is nearing it's limits. Extended rest is the only workable solution.

Missing you and still thinking about you, Phil. Rest in peace, Friend.

that explains why it takes me a full day of being worthless after the 24-30 hrs " work sessions" to regain my composure...

Any overworked driver can see the "black dog". In my case, I saw one crossing US 601 south of Camden SC about 3am. My dispatcher immediately gave me four days off, like it or not. At the time, I was saving money to buy our current home, and four days off was not what I wanted to hear. But after a couple of days rest, I understood how far fatigue can go.

Scot, my advice is this; if they call you to cover a load in the next few days, just tell them you are seeing things in road at night that you know are not there. Don't use the term "black dog", just let them arrive at that conclusion for themselves. Then take three days off. And rest.

Got my food shopping done. Stopped by Goodwill while I was out and got this Sony speaker for $10. Sony SS-CN495H Center Speaker | eBay Had to plug the Roku HDMI cord into the receiver to run the setup. Dialogue sounds better so far but I'll know more after I watch some different stuff.

I've had my share of hallucinations driving. It's not a fun thing.

I think about Robin all the time.. Pretty much every time I get on my elliptical, because she had one too and I remember conversations we had about it.

I am also reminded of her when I watch episodes of "This is Us" because the Mom is a singer, not a big time celebrity, but like Robin was.. she did it for fun and love of music.

I miss her.

I bought the same bathroom scale Robin got when she went on her diet crusade. I don't weigh myself anymore. Denial is real.

Think about this when you go to the hospital in the middle of the night, in severe distress, the first year resident staggers in the ER after eight hours of sleep over the last forty-eight and asks, "Where does it hurt?"

You have a bone coming through your femoral muscle and sticking out your pant leg, blood is everywhere. A man with a big black dog wants to treat you.

For me it’s every morning when I make my green smoothie because she wanted the recipe. And when my hair gets frizzy because she battled her lovely curls. And whenever someone mentions Florida or Philly or Michigan. I miss her too.

I still hop on the thread and expect to see her posts. Remembering I won’t still hurts.

Phil (Z-Ghost) was huge on this thread the first six months. He posted usually overnight. Hula remembers because she was on the night crew too. I'd wake up and he'd have 10, 15 posts, sometimes more. He was just a regular guy like the rest of us. Your typical nice Texas boy. If he was having a bad time he'd say. But honestly, I don't think any of us knew how bad he was. Perhaps because none of us understood the severity of his disease. In hindsight, Phil was in a lot of pain. He died from Chron's disease. It really threw us for a loop here. His logo was some kind of animal skull, but he switched to the "Catpire". :)
