Thankfully with Foxsports on the Roku I can watch the whole race..

Bronze.. Curiositystream is a paid channel..for me anyway..
They said on mine that it was paid for some but free for others. They never charged me. I’ll probably get a bill 5 years from now. YOU OWE $1024. Don’t know why some pay and others don’t. I think the channel is part of the Discovery Channel. Maybe because Discovery is part of my cable package???

Hello Army. I've been watching Alliance Football and arguing politics today. The football was better.
I did the same thing today. :)

I was going by the website. Maybe I'll load it and see what it says.

OK David. I see what they did. Looks like they give you the first episode of every program for free but then if you want more than that then they nail you $2.99 a month. Bait n switch.

I checked and it was a sign up for a 30 day trial. Then either $2.99 a month or $19.99 for a year. Which is cheap if there's enough that you'd want to watch.

... and X-Rays... tiny little bullets that shred dna into mutant forms . . .

When I was 4 - 5 years old (back in the 1950's), I had terrible problems with ear infections, ear aches, etc. Today, they put "tubes" in kids' ears for that. They didn't have that back then. They would lance my ear drums to let the fluid drain. Of course, it would heal up and they'd have to do it all over again.

I had each of my ears "lanced" 26 times. Finally, the doctors told my parents they wanted to do a new, experimental treatment on my ears. That treatment was "x-ray therapy." My folks agreed. I don't know what they did or how they did it, but it worked. When I was younger and learned about the dangers of x-rays, I worried that I'd have brain cancer or other type of cancer as a result of that treatment.

But now I'm in my 60's. If I'm lucky, I'll avoid brain cancer long enough to die of something else first. ;)

Oh, the epilogue to that story is that the doctors told my folks there was one benefit from all those surgeries and treatments: My ears would be so screwed up that the army would never take me in.

Well, I turned 18 at the height of the Viet Nam war. When I went in for my physical, they stuck a thermometer up my rear and looked in both ears for about 1 second. I passed.

The joke back then was if they stuck a mirror under your nose and it fogged up, you passed your physical.

I watched the first episode of the nutrition one.. They are promoting veganism, which I have nothing against.. But it isn't for me.

Yes, it was a bit of promotion for veganism and I also have nothing against it nor is it for me. But I don't look at it as an all or none proposition. Instead, I look at it as a way to supplement a diet or substitute the usual boring veggies with some real good vegetable alternatives. I liked how they highlighted the most nutritious ones. And they were honest about veggies being boring and suggestions about making them so they are not boring. Now, if they just had a way to get to some of those recipes that chef was making. :)

Well, I was going to work on the truck today but that aint happening. Knee is acting up. Feels like it's gonna snap off. I'd like to blame age but every once in a great while (like every 3-5 years for my entire life) the thing decides to quit working for a day or two. No explanation. Didn't do a damn thing to it and the other 99.9% of the time they work perfectly fine. It will be back to normal tomorrow. So duff time for me today. Oh well.

I never heard of x-ray therapy for ear infections. I'm surprised it worked. Yes, that is scary considering what we know now. I used to get ear aches a lot after I started going to school. Before I went to school, I rarely got ill. Once I started going to school, I got sick a lot. (especially the first 4 years or so) My mother would heat up some kind of oil, and drop it in my ears. That did help, but I think she just burned off whatever was in there. She had those same ear drops for umpteen years. We had no expiration dates back then. Now she can't remember what the oil was. I know it wasn't an herbal oil. She boiled water, and put the ear drop bottle in the hot water to heat it up. (sort of like some people warm up baby bottles now)

I'll bet it was called "sweet oil" and ears were common use for "sweet" olive oil.
Brought to you by an old with a swiss cheese memory but that factoid came for the solid part not the holey part.

@Bronze I agree completely! I try to eat veggies often but I'm sure it isn't enough. I may get CuriosityStream so I can watch the rest of them..

I hope your knee gets back to normal soon. Sugar is bad for my inflammation. Had pie yesterday for a birthday, could feel the tingle in my plantar fasciitis foot this morning on my run.

I think you're right - my gran used to have a little bottle of olive oil - it was for earache because no-one dreamed of using it to actually cook with, when you had pork drippings or lard. Olive oil? I mean Eeewwww! :D She used to put some in a dessert spoon, warm it gently on the gas stove, then dob the end of a cotton ball in it, and in your ear it went. :D
