I started feeling better yesterday. I actually slept better too, and I needed that for sure. I'm out of melatonin and that is a problem. Vetiver helped me out, until I can get some more melatonin.

More rain on deck for an entire week. I drove by the river and it is worse than before. We are still in a flood warning status, with heavy rain predicted this week. Flooding is still going on for a few days. If we got no rain this week, the flooding was predicted to stop on Friday. I don't know if they have been releasing water from the spillways, but they probably are.

Arlington Heights was my stomping grounds growing up. Lived there from about 1961 - 1974...basically my entire childhood (born in Detroit). Went to Arlington High School my freshmen year then moved to a little town called Sleepy Hollow (south of Elgin, west of Dundee). Moved around IL then came to N. Carolina in 1998. I knew everybody in AH growing up. Hated to leave all my friends. Lived near Arlington Heights Rd and E. Oakton till kindergarten then moved across town three blocks from Arlington Park race track. Ahh, the memories of laying in the summer grass listening to the crowds as the thoroughbreds came spinning out of the turn! The excitement in 1973 when Secretariat ran one of his final races after his historic Triple Crown. I had a great childhood and AH was where it happened. Where did you live there?

Don't get me started on the Packers. :)

Whoa, this is going to test my memory severely (but that's good)! I needed google map for this. I'm going to sound like a real tourist here cause we never knew this area like you…your stomping grounds. I need to get my bearings straight. Dang this is almost 39 years ago…still good for the brain.

Landmarks for me were always that crazy messed up turnabout circle leading to Golf Rd just after getting off the freeway; the corners of Golf Rd and Algonquin Rd and Woodfield Mall. Strange, I know but we were new to your stomping grounds. That turnabout blew my mind first time through until we got used to it.

Ok so I had to first figure out where I worked which was on the SE corner of Golf Rd and Algonquin Rd in Arlington Heights. A nondescript single story multi-office layout that took up the whole corner. Buddy of mine and I would drive around during lunchtimes and there was a wild preserve/park like place that had a herd of…crap…moose. You could park, eat lunch and watch.

We rented an apartment off Algonquin Rd a short distance from my work. We were at the Sheraton hotel that had the apartments (Walden or something like that) round the back. Looking at the map it's Schaumburg where we lived and Arlington Heights where I worked. At the time there was a big field behind the Sheraton apartments where we would go and run our dog. I remember the hugest mall a super short drive away on Meachham Rd from us, Woodfield Mall. My wife loved that place!

In between work and our apartment there was a Mexican restaurant we really liked a lot called PePe's. There were so many good places to eat around there. Also by us on the corners of Barrington Rd and Algonquin Rd there was a small corner strip mall that had a Tin Pan Ally that we would go buy tokens and play some classic video games. The 94th Aero Squadron in Wheeling had good food too - we took our parents there a couple times.

Before there in Palatine we were in a rather dumpy apartment building fairly close to RR tracks that the commuter trains rolled by. I'm not even going to try and pinpoint that place. It was quite a drive from work though.

Ok, how did I do? My brain hurts now.

@Bronze - more memories come flooding in...this is the best brain workout I've had in years. thx

Near Arlington Race track, I remember there was a movie theater near the track that another work buddy, who grew up in AH (no I don't remember his name ;)), took us a few times.

Traffic....ARGHHH. I will never forget the traffic, PIA. I remember being at the corner coming out of the Sheraton apt's to turn onto Algonquin Rd, and you absolutely knew you had more than enough time to make the right-hand turn, people would speed up to try and prevent you. Really ticked me off, until I was told "SMT you gotta learn to drive like the locals"...ding-ding, light bulb moment....then I was fine, payback. Coming from Milwaukee we were NOT at all used to that. After 3 years we moved, job transfer, to Minneapolis for a couple years. Then back home. :thumb:

Although after many years traveling the country in field service nothing comes close to traffic in and around NYC or the LA area. Maybe Atlanta where it seemed to me almost every street had some kind of Peachtree going on...drove me nuts.

Cool thing about having to fly out of O-hare all the time was my boss telling me "SMT you have three options; 1) drive your car and we reimburse mileage 2) take a cab 3) take a limo". Well all I heard was LIMO and that's all I took to and from.:)

wellll... my toilet finally crappied out ;) it is one of those FlushMate types, the one with the pressurized tank. The core unit decided to start leaking ( after 12 yrs) so off to the plumbing parts place... they had the part 41$.. taking out the old part was a real "B", the O-Ring was dry and well secured to the outer seal wall... got it out tho with some serious torque and a pair of channel locks ( used as a spanner)... greased up the new one with silicone grease ( specifically for O-Rings and diving equipment... dayum just realized that the grease is 40 yrs old and still good) the new one went in without an issue and got it adjusted and we have FLUSH POWER!! :)
Yay! Speaking of crappers, mine are slowing down and getting moody. My septic tank is about full. Got the pumper coming out later this week. 22 year old house...about time I'd say. Called one place on a recommendation. He's slammed. Three week wait. He told me to call another guy and he's two or three days. His company slogan is, "#1 in the #2 Business." Exudes confidence. Works for me.

I could almost smell that summer grass and hear the crowds! I love when we get to telling stories like this. :)
Funny how our minds call up the same image of a bygone time when we were just pups. I always think about laying in the front lawn in the shade looking straight up at the blue sky and listening to the distant crowd noise elevate as the thoroughbreds made their way down the final stretch. Phil Georgeff was the track announcer and his famous call as they came around the final turn was, "And here they come spinning out of the turn...." The memories are endless.

Here was Phil Georgeff on the call for one of Secretariat's last races (what a great horse...the best!). Other than the motocross race, this was the loudest I ever heard Arlington Park Race Track. I was just shy of 14 years old, three blocks away laying in the front lawn looking at the blue sky at the very moment this took place.

The General will have to evaluate you for accuracy. You get a 10 out of 10 for engaging reminiscences! Plus bonus points for using our Word Of The Day!

Well done!

More bonus points for the Word Of The Day! (I know I’m the only one actually playing this game. ;) )

I went to school with a guy who’s family owned a septic business. That was their company slogan too! Always made me giggle when I saw the truck go by with that slogan.

Loved the video! Everyone was caught up in the brilliance of Secretariat. I’m pretty sure I was watching that clip live when it happened. Heart-stopping!

Yes!!! for the 10 pts for word of the day. Just got all caught up on the crapper situations. Pretty crappy I have to admit.

Yeah, I do feel the heat waiting on the General, seeing how he's the homeboy and all.

But da Bears still had 20 some QB's during the Favre era (1992 on) and I've lost track of that number since #12 Aaron Rodgers fell into the Packers laps. Oh wait, a quick look AND the Bears rolled out 30 QB's alone during this span. Ouch!

I’m such an immature dork... I’m now giggling over the idea of “moody crappers!” That’s gotta beat a woman with PMS by a mile. (The gents here may disagree with that one.) But really...things a “moody crapper” could do to make your life miserable.
The most deadly animal in Alaska to humans is not a lynx, or wolverine, or black bear, or grizzly. It's the moose.

The greatest horse God made. He blew away the record time and he still holds the record time at the Belmont Stakes to this day...46 years later.

And to this day I can still pop in the Secretariat movie with Diane Lane and enjoy it like the first time I saw it.

I'm like that with Field of Dreams too.

Indeed. And a moose is no giggling matter.

I was giggling over your having called your crapper moody. And with a full septic tank, no less.

Wait till @Bunnykiller sees what he started.

How you got away with 22 years on that tank is beyond me. I had to have mine done every 2 years. If anyone accuses you of being full of crap... it can’t possibly be true. Unless you’ve been holding it all this time. Hmmmm.

I think I’ll stop now. I’m gonna get myself in trouble!

carports have covers, airports dont, carports have driveways, airports have runways, models use runways but they walk, airplanes use runways but they dont run, they drive on wheels, shouldnt that be a driveway then? Models arent allowed on airport runways and if they were on the runway, then they would be running... AHHHH now I know why they are called runways... girls being chased down by airplanes... it all makes sense now

Cami is beautiful. She looks like real a fun cat. 2nd picture seriously cracked me up and gave me vertigo for a nano-sec --- wheeee! She has a rather independent look about her.

Tortoiseshell's are hard to find around this neck of the country. Our first cat was a brownish/tan tortoiseshell...the cat that made me fall head over heels for all cats.

My wife used to make catnip bags for the cats...so much fun watching 'em get all goofy!

Ive seen mink coats, and even a silver fox coat, but it seems tortoise shell would be a bit stiff to wear... ;)
