GEEK !!!! NEED GEEK !!! HELP ! GEEK !!!!
So I am looking at the ECF after "red X" the annoying Windows 10 pop-up...
And Win 10 starts installing itself!
%@#¥£€!&%#...and a whole lot more.
I immediately pressed and held the on button, unplugged and removed the battery from my laptop.
Is there a way to remove Bill Gates ENTIRELY from my laptop ? I think Gary was posting something about 'linus'....
Pop, as you know I went through this already (still going through it). Windows 10 was NOT the problem I had. I was nailed by a spam bombradment that had nothing to do with W10 installing itself. What was downloading itself was a legitimate copy of W10. W10 is seemingly an improvement over W8. That said, Microsoft is a-holes for trying to force it down our throats. Takes a lot of balls! You can do a CTL-ALT-DEL and bring up your task manager and kill the download by hitting the "End task" button. But bottom line is this W10 install that it is attempting to do will not screw up your computer. I raise this only because I posted that I thought it screwed me over when, in fact, this was not the case.

Beyond this, it's entirely up to you if you want to take Ret's advice and transition to Linux. I may do it at some point myself but not quite ready to pull the trigger.

I have been getting that pop up asking me to upgrade and I keep pressing no. I have seen it pop up about 3x already and I'm afraid next time it's just going to do it regardless. How many times have you refused before it eventually did it anyways? I think I'm ready for Charlie brown or that Linus thing

What has been happening with some users is you hit the red X and instead of just closing it, it schedules you for an automatic update. If you ever see it downloading itself just go to your task manager and kill it (unless you want it). Microsoft is catching a lot of flack for doing this but apparently they haven't backed off.

Oh ok, I thought it might happen automatically after you x it a few times. Gotcha on the task manager thing, thanks

It will happen automatically sooner or later. They probably schedule it so as not to overload themselves at any given time. So i suspect your turn will show up eventually.

Papaw, sorry about your computer. That company is on my **** list. I am sick of them. I just haven't had the nerve yet, to go to Linux. But I feel sure I will be in the near future. I just don't want to be without a computer if I mess it up.
The FDA is also on my **** list. These folks saying that it is just a way to entice kids is bogus. I like flavors. I am well over 50 years old. I quit smoking, and was able to stay off of cigarettes thanks to vaping. They can poo poo that all they want to. The people here know the truth. They are safter than cigarettes, and this is done for the benefit of big T and big P. They can say it isn't all day long. Look who stands to gain. It isn't the little people, that's for dang sure.

The free upgrade period for Win 10 is about to end. July 31 I think. So they decided to force it. Bad move for an otherwise decent version of Win. Some people are so upset they turned off all updates. They will not get critical security updates which is even worse! It's a mess.

Papaw & Retic, let us know how the changeover to Linux goes. If my career didn't require apps that only run on Mac or Win, I'd be ready to switch.

Kkay, I sure wish you could send that rain our way in CA & NV. It's skipping the West and dumping on you. Stay safe!

Evening..... Loaded the Merlin with Legend last night and vaped it some. Seemed good but I'm sick right not so not a good judge. Anyway I closed the controls and set it aside for today. This morning I find most of the tank leaked out. By the time I got the Fuchai and the tank cleaned up it was time to go to work. So I refilled the Lemo2. I need to inspect the O-rings and rethink my wicking. Right now I can barely taste and vape anything. So until I starting feeling better the Merlin will just have to set here and look pretty.:-x Hopefully by Saturday.:)

If ya'll ran Windows XP , Vista or 7 , running Linux Mint xfce or Cinnamon will be like meeting up with an old friend , little to no learning curve , menu button in the bottom left corner of the screen , point and click to run , right click on a menu item brings up the properties box and let's you put a shortcut on the desktop same as Windows . It comes with everything you need , full office suite , Firefox preinstalled , you can run Opera or Chrome , no antivirus , antimalware ,antispyware , root cleaner , or defragging software needed at all . If you wanna play games you can run a full version of Windows 7 , 8 or 10 in a box under Linux .
