I live day by day. I want to see a drop in my nic mg. But have I thought about quitting vaping ? No.
I vape light and not dark colors, more for my carto's life not mine. 4000+ toxins out of my life.
I sleep better. My skin in softer, my hair manageable. I just do more and am more active. I too believe PG has helped me to stay off the flu, when everyone else was sick.. I've done my research and made my choice. Picked what I believe is better for me. Will vaping kill me? No sooner the eating a big mac. Don't you just love the Ammonia Fast food serves, yum.
Sarcastic yes.... But everyone picks their poison and I don't go around condemning adults for their choices. Whether it's the food or how much of it they eat. What they put in their lungs legal or illegal, or the life path they choose or the person they choose to walk down that road with.....
I have one life to live and I plan to be the one to live it as I choose.

No idea how long I'll continue to vape. I haven't set any goals to give it up. The hand to mouth actions of vaping remain very important to me. Didn't plan on quitting cigarettes when I bought my first PV but thats exactly what I decided to do four hours after it arrived. Two months later decided I'd see if over the long haul I could eliminate my nic addiction. Had no idea if it was possible or if it was, how long that would take. Two months after that, to my surprise, that was accomplished. Mostly vape 0 nic now but its now my choice to sometimes vape up to 6 mg if I wish. I've never experienced a colored tongue from vaping. I didn't eliminate my addition to nic because I was worried about long term effects of vaping or to be able to stop vaping anytime in the near future. I set ridding myself of the addiction as a goal so it would no longer matter for me what the FDA or the NYS legislature decided to do to make vaping difficult and that they would NOT have the ability to send me back to smoking cigarettes which I know was causing me health problems.

I love vaping, but I too am concerned OP about the possible long term health effects. I quit smoking to alleviate from the dangers of it, using a pg/vg substitute no doubt seems alot less dangerous than smoking but I am in the same boat with not knowing if I should continue to vape forever or just try and ween myself off.

Of course, there's pg/vg in cigarettes as well but the same amounts? Probably not. I will never go back to smoking but as of now I do not know if I'll vape forever. It's in my greatest hopes that long term usage will have nil ill health effects on our bodies, but I don't know if I like the idea of gambling on something unknown as such.

Right now I'm not sure if I want to quit nicotine or not, so I have no plans to quit. That may change in the future.

I'm just happy to not be smoking cigarettes and I just look at all the things I'm NOT inhaling that I did when smoking and I believe I'll come out ahead in the long run whether I continue to vape or not.

If anyone out there really wants to get off the nic completely, more power to you and good luck. I don't claim to be a role model for anyone and I'm not going to tell you what you want to do is right or wrong. I've tried to make an informed decision for myself about vaping and if I choose to continue to vape I would hope to not get any grief about it from anyone.

I've noticed in this and other threads a defensive reply when asked about health concerns and abstinence from vaping.

The 'ol "It's better than smoking" or "We're all going to die of something" is a knee-jerk reaction.

We really don't know what 6 mls a day of PG flowing through your respiratory system does.
Nor the effect of some oils or flavors.

As humans (and primarily Americans), we tend to do things to an unhealthy excessive amount.
3 packs of reds a day, a fifth a day, a big mac meal a day, an 8pack of coke a day, 8 hours of video games a day, etc.

Its amazing how resilient the body is. I'm guilty of some of these personal excessive pleasures too.

But somewhere in the back of your head, you just know that in the long run, these vices will have a detrimental effect.

As of now, I'm vaping and buying more vaping supplies. Cigarettes have become a distant memory (geez, it hasn't been 2 months yet). Some day, all my stuff will be in the classifieds.

Since I started vaping as an alternative to smoking I have no intention of quitting vaping. Come to think of it I had no intention of quitting smoking either. Just found myself vaping more and burning tobacco less to the point where why burn. My nicotine habit is intact with all the mechanics associated with smoking. As for reducing my nicotine. No desire to do so at this time. I can say I am comfortable with my addictions. And I get the side benefits from not burning tobacco too.

I smoked for 35 years, but in that 35 years, I quit once for three years and once for ten years. Never in those quit years did I quit wanting a cigarette. I have decreased my nic from 18 - 12 mg. I would like to get to 6 mg, but do not plan on going lower. I am happy that I can go through a day without wanting a cigarette.

I started vaping over 2 months ago and haven't smoked since. I started out at 24mg. nic. and have worked down to 0mg. already. As soon as I feel like I can I will quit vaping as well. I just vape so I don't smoke and can't wait until I don't need it either! I don't plan on waiting until there's proof that vaping is bad for me in some way to quit. I quit smoking to be healthier and that's what I'm trying to do. Most people on here have made vaping their "lifestyle" or their hobby and feel like they're on the cutting edge of something and will argue any negative effects that anyone says. I love the fact that vaping has replaced smoking but I personally feel it's a mistake to make a long term habit of it. But that's just me.

How long did we plan on smoking? I never planned on smoking as long as I did, that's for sure! Going on 2 years vaping and NO plans to quit! I like vaping much better than I ever liked smoking. LOL

That's my point though, I never planned or thought that I would have smoked for 25 years! But when I started I never thought about living past 20 either. I just don't want to be addicted to vaping years from now and trying to figure out how to stop that. It's been bad enough quitting smoking!

I totally understand the OP concerns and where he is coming from. I love the vaping but HATE being a "slave" to the nic. I rely on my pv to replace my cigs. But the amount I vape HAS to be having some effects on me that once some studies come out there will be some consequences to vaping ... there are consequences to everything we do ... coffee, red meat, sugar subsitutes, antibiotics ... so it is just silly to think that there are NO consequences to vaping as we know it. BUT for now, I feel so much better, I am not smoking, stress is being handled much better, it's all good.

I do like the idea of being off nic by the end of the year and then deciding what to do about vaping. At that point it will be only taking care of the behavior without the addiction (I hope)

I, for one, know that vaping isn't just about replacing the nicotine with something "healthier" than smoking. I know that in order to be able to fully quit smoking, and have a better chance of not returning to it in the future, you have to retrain your brain. That means, stopping any, and all, behaviors that associate with smoking, including the hand-to-mouth coordination of puffing. I know that it's a safer alternative, than smoking, and keeps me saner, than going cold turkey.

I don't know how long I plan to vape, to be completely honest. I would hope that it's only a temporary thing, but there's no way to tell this soon into it. I do enjoy vaping, but not as much as I enjoyed smoking.

Like others, I understand the OPs concerns, but as it stands, I have no intention to quit vaping.

I always said i wanted to quit smoking when I was 35. Well, originally, I said by the time I was 35. This was b/c it is a bad idea to smoke while taking birth control pills. But, I had major clots in my lungs (including a saddle embolus that should have killed me in 2004) and they took my BCP away then. So, 35 no longer represented a need to quit, but knowing how bad it is, I decided I wanted to quit when I was 35. Time kept passing and 36 kept getting closer and closer. I finally got an ecig and was able to make my goal of quitting when I was 35. BUT - if I hadn't found ecigs, then I probably wouldn't have been able to quit - I just enjoyed smoking too much.

Now that I have quit smoking for vaping, my next goal is to (eventually) get down to 0 nic. I thought it would be easier than it has been. So, for now, I don't have any specific time that I want to get down to 0 - just that I want to. But, I quit smoking on 12mg nic juice and that seems to be pretty low compared to what a lot of people vape (and low compared to what a lot of people vape to quit smoking). Once I get down to 0mg, then I would like to cut down the frequency I vape - or maybe change to organic, no color, no additive juice. I dunno. That all seems so far out in the future. I'm just happy to have quit smoking (and my parents are thrilled as well).

I think this might make a good poll - Were you a smoker before vaping? What mg did you start with? How long have you been vaping? What mg are you vaping now? Do you plan to lower your nic level? Do you plan to ultimately get down to 0mg, and if so, how long? Do you plan to quit vaping and if so, how long?

I want to get off the nic and then get to a point where I don't need to vape. If I want to I will, if I don't I won't. Simply because I don't want to be a slave to any more addictions.

I am 45 and smoked for 27 years. I already have a number of health issues some from smoking and some that were worsened by smoking and bad living. I take responsibility for it all. I am also not afraid of what ill effects vaping could potentially cause because I know the past smoking has caused more damage to myself then the vaping will.
