and REALLY started smoking a few years later when I joined the Navy.

Definitely feel you there, it was pretty much impossible to quit while I was still in. Besides it being all around, and the only way to get a real break was going out to the smoke deck, there were just way too many decisions/changes that happened "offline" or whatever out on the smoke deck to be able to give up that access. I swear some people didn't get kicked out just cause of being able to talk things out somewhat informally on the smoke deck with their chief. It's part of the culture and I still don't know how they expect to really change that.

Name: John
Smoked 33 years.
Quit 2/5/10 at 3:00 pm. Have used a PV ever since without any analogs.
I could feel the ciggs slowly killing me.

Started when I was 15 for something to do between other kinds of cigarettes. Drank heavy for years. Quit other kinds of cigarettes, quit drinking about 10 years ago. Absolutely could never stop smoking...Until the PV came along. Was rough at first but not so bad now. I keep two units ready at all times. One six volt mod for an ultimate nic hit and an eGo with a catomizer filled with 555 for the taste factor. This combination works well for me. Do not plan to ever go back to analogs.

started smoking at 13 (unless you count second hand smoke, in which case I have smoked since my conception as my mother was a heavy heavy smoker and I grew up in band communes).
So...smoked 29 years, or 27 if you subtract the years I managed to quit, or 40 if you add second hand smoke. Any way a long long time!
Off analogs for three months and loving it.

I started smoking because I wanted to be cool. I have never done anything in the name of coolness that worked out well for me. Sigh.

I actually started late compared to many around here---when I was twenty. Got my first e-cig over a year ago so I smoked about 40. Maybe not quite since I tried quitting a few times but it didn't last long. About a year, year and a half of that I smoked very little since I was PG and the majority of the time, it made me sicker than a dog. God must have been looking after my kids.:)

Wow, guess I started late too!

I'm 33, and didnt start smoking until I was almost 20. I had a few cigs here and there in high school, but it really wasn't my thing. Started tending bar at 19 though, and for whatever reason ended up picking up smoking out of the blue one night. Been a pack to a pack and a half smoker since. I quit for almost a year about 10 years ago...and maybe a month about 7 years ago... I have a very addictive personality, so quitting never worked out very well.

So 33, female, and about 13 years

54 years old, female, started dabbling at smoking at 16, really started seriously smoking at 18. Prefer not to do the math.

Oh, and my career? Dance. In my youth, all my fellow dancers smoked to stay thin.

Now they just binge and purge! Well, truthfully they did that back in my day too, I just preferred smoking to puking.

I am so seriously addicted that I have only had one two week period in 197something where I quit for 2 weeks.

But e-cigs are changing my life. I love it!

Lol, thanks for putting a smile on my face and the valid yet round-about points you made. Very much appreciated and I must admit, I like your style..

@otrpu
Thank you for the response, I was just curious. It seems the nicotine addiction is easier to break than the habit after such a long time. There seems to be so much success on these forums for those that have been combusting analogs for 30+ years I was just curious if there was another approach I should take.

Again, thank you both. Your advice was very much appreciated.

@sooprvylyn
My apologies for the thread derailment, now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Averaged about two packs a day for 50 years (started when I was 13).
Started using PV's 8-19-2009 and have not had an analog since then.

Why did I start? At that time it was thought to be cool. Everyone did it the actors in movies, the entertainers on TV my parents and relatives and no one thought about their being harmful.

I share something in common with you. In my younger years I too had quite the illicits history. I can honestly say I believe you about the closet scenario. I've probably done any drug you can think of at least a couple times in my day(except Crack) and I've never been adicted to anything except Analogs either. They are definately the MOST addictive drug inthe world. I too grew up sometime in my very early 20s

Yes. CAUTION: ILLEGAL DRUGS MAY LEAD TO SMOKING!
