I think my doctor is more concerned with the build-up of plaque that nicotine can contribute to. Nicotine can also cause expansion and contraction of arteries (and vessels), which can be a concern when those arteries have begun to harden. I'm 62 and got three stents on my first heart cath and will be going back in soon for another round. I'm being extra careful. But damn, I sure did have to throw out a lot of juice that had nic in it. Most of it was very tasty stuff, too. Ah well, at least it gives me an excuse to have to spend the next few weekends mixing!

I'd say your wakeup call was a pretty mild one; back in March, my stepfather got a similar wakeup call, 3 coronary arteries 95% blocked... which led to a MASSIVE heart attack, and IMMEDIATE triple-bypass surgery. That surgery and recuperation seems to have gone very well, but the places on his legs where the blood vessels were taken to provide the new blood vessels in his chest suffered a terrible post-surgical infection, which seems to be impossible to clear up, it keeps coming back.

He hasn't smoked in nearly 30 yrs, since he had his first stroke (he had a 2nd one later). And even when he smoked, he never smoked more than a half-pk a day.

Ohh there is plenty of stroke and heart issues without smoking.
Many factors in play tobacco only being one of them. Genetics plays a noticeable part so does diet and lifestyle.
And all the chemicals we are subjected to in our daily lives.

Same with Cancer. Not all smokers get cancer and not all with lung cancer ever smoked.
But I am convinced that smoking will greatly increase the risk of lung cancer, and will also increase coronary complications.

I did not start vaping for health reasons. I did to save money and it was more enjoyable and it made my wife happy. Always easier to live with a happy woman ;)

With that said I am very convinced at this point that vaping is FAR safer than smoking but not without some risks.
An SMPL mod loaded with an Efest battery blowing yer face off being one.

This exactly. For most people, nicotine is fairly innocuous at the levels we use, but anyone with a serious cardiovascular issue would be well-advised to avoid it.

Just as alcohol is pretty innocuous for 90% of the population, if used in moderation; unfortunately for some of us, it's the substance that literally makes our brains go haywire, and must be avoided. "E-beer" would be a great thing, but since the actual active ingredient is what causes the problem, it doesn't seem that it would answer, for alcoholics.

I used to have daydreams about the mythical "synthehol" they served in 10-Forward on ST:TNG... And some years later, I finally got over it. :D

Yes, powdered alcohol is real. It’s already banned in New York and at least 20 other states.

With the bitter gene alcohol tastes horrible to me.
Like drinking paint thinner or something.

Studying why people became alcoholics is why they discovered the bitter gene.
Meh all artificial sweeteners taste bitter to me, it makes most ejuice taste just horrible :X I know its not alcohol related but though I'd mention it :p

It was not my plan to keep vaping long term when I first started because I don't like being tied or dependant on it like I was to smoking. It was actually my goal when I first started vaping to keep it short term versus trading one habit for another. Now, 5+ years later, although I have reduced my nicotine intake levels quite a bit I have no plans of quitting mainly because nicotine has been proven to be beneficial to a similar medical condition I currently have (and I will take any edge I can get with this) and if I am honest with myself I am addicted to the physical act of vaping itself as much as I was to the same with smoking.
Good on for you though OP for quitting :)

All artificial sweeteners are horrible to me as well. I gave up on bought juice and DIY and use GNC liquid Stevia as a sweetener.

The ingredients in many flavorings also disagree with me some a bit violently. I can develop swollen lymph nodes and sores in my mouth if I ignore the warning signs and keep vaping an offensive flavoring.
And many flavorings taste horribly chemical to me.
yeah a curse but I am weeding out the offenders and building a safe group of flavorings to use.
I throw out over half of the flavorings I buy.

Not many like me on here. I expect they give up on vaping really quick and keep on smoking. And tell everyone how dangerous vaping is...

I wonder how many are like me with ejuice /flavoring sensitivities?
The juice companies will for sure not say what they know about it.

Back when I bought juice I only ever found 4-5 flavors I really liked, I've tested hundreds! I diy now, I keep it simple, sometimes I even go unflavored the VG is sweet enough for me, generally I only use about 5% flavors in my juice anything higher I can't stand it and my taste buds mute.

5-7% is pretty much my flavor level as well.
And I NEVER have "vapers tongue".

If I try someone's recipe I automatically knock of 75% on the flavors.

Let me just kill this thread right now by saying--whatever your status in life...EAT MORE GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES (spinach, collard greens, turnip greens, etc.)...and no, I'm not kidding, unless you're taking a medication that prohibits that.

How about tastebuds that prohibit it? :D

Seriously... I can tolerate spinach if it's raw (salad), collards if they're barely cooked (stir fried lightly mixed with mustard greens)... but turnip greens??? Not even with YOUR mouth!:confused:

I didn't say you had to like them!

I don't like making beds, doing dishes or cleaning toilets, either, but those things are necessary. Eating greens a couple of times a week are necessary, too.

Greens typically do not work for those of us with the bitter gene.
