Got my strata a couple days ago! I was a bit scared at first at what people were saying about how frustrating it is to get it to work.. but this worked wonders for me: 2 coils, 6 wraps of 28g kanthal around a nail coming in at about 0.6 ohms.. and it wasn't that hard..

Tons of flavor and decent vapor. Gotta play around with it more later =)

I did a build very similar to this yesterday. Dual coil 28ga Kanthal with 6 wraps around a 3/32" drill bit but it came out to 1.2 ohms after zeroing my leads. Must be because I couldn't get my coils as tight? Either way, this was my third Strata build and my first unsuccessful one. The vape was thin and harsh and the top cap got hotter than hades! I moved the coils in a tad away from the top cap (really just to cool it down a bit) and it turned into my MOST successful build! I find it seems to produce the best feeling and looking vapor with around one complete turn from closed. As far as the draw I'd like to be able to use it around 3/8 of a turn from closed but the vapor is pretty thin (though not bad) and the TH is tooooo much. I've also found (I'm using a Simplicity 18350) that a freshly charged batt seems to make anything work well at any setting. Coil placement, wick cleanliness airflow, ect. begin to matter more and more as the battery drains. At 3.5V It seems to be hardly usable. On the whole I'm certainly happy with the device in every way. Tinkering with it has been a blast!

My 4th & most successful build so far! I'm still learning to do micros. I can't seem to be able to make them stay squeezed together! These were done with a 3/32" drill bit & I did the pre made loops for the posts on both of them. Vapor, flavor & draw tightness are all the best I've achieved so far but still not as thick as some of the Strata build vids out so far. Lemme know what y'all think and I'd surely appreciate any tips & pointers! Oh and I also included some pics on my 18350 with a Modish Metal Works Ti "Valentino" drip tip.

Ok, so same as with my vertical coil (but pretty much identical in every other way) the top cap did indeed get too hot (for me). I moved them in a tad as pic'd below and it's nothing but an improvement in every way! I may or may not have to buy stock in my fav juice company.

As this thread progresses I know it'll get even better!! ...and better! Palabra a Tu Madre!

I forgot to mention this setup came out to exactly 1 ohm.

How did single coil differ from dual? Any difference in taste, volume of vapor ?

100_3672.jpg ...................Taste is about the same to me. Vapor is a little less than the dual coils I built last time. I have been building only single coils in the strata lately from .8 ohms to 1.3 ohms. I tried a single vertical coil the last time and it did not come out good. It took me some time to get this picture up, my computer was not recognizing my memory card. I get so ...... off with computers. I have an old kodak digital camera. Now my computer is not reading any of my memory cards! I have to now plug the camera into the computer to get the pictures to go to my desktop. The memory card reader is not working on my computer now. What the f.......

93 days, that's terrific. Let me give you some reinforcement -I haven't had a ciggy in 16 months - and I didn't plan to quit smoking (I was at 2 ppd as well). Ran out of smokes - picked up my vape - and haven't had ONE since. NO desire either.
All these idiots in Washington...well.....we aren't sure if it actually helps people quit, yada yada I'm a Washington idiot - listen up - it works.

^^^ no doubt about it. I'm still "newer" at this (93 days without a ciggy!) but I researched the ever lovin' shiza outta my next atty purchase before choosing the Strata. I dig the design. It certainly seems to work for me. And like you said, the craftsmanship is second to none!

My first two Strata builds were horizontal coils using Ekowool. They weren't very good (blame is on my builds, not the device). I had my friend build vertical microcoils with cotton and the results are much, much, much better. I'd still like to give horizontal coils/Ekowool a shot, as it's my preferred material, but this setup is working brilliantly for me.

So Cali
My first build. 26g kanthal microcoil 6/7 wraps. Just single for now @0.8ohms
Throat hit yes. Not the burning feeling like from hot spots....legit throat hit

Flava is really good. Although spheroid still my best tasting atty

Vapor production very decent still need to play around with the draw cap. But it does work as advertised

Nicotine buzz like nobodies business. My 6 mg is giving me jitters. Making it difficult to type :)

Entire build took less than 10 mn!

Need to stop testing NIC sick

This atty is Amazeballll!

Made me a super t fan boy! Yea I said it!

I cant tell what you are using as wick. It looks like some sort of silica? Im still playing around, and found that dual coils gives the best all around for vapor production, but I hate setting up duals. I know its me, its just really hard for me to make my fingers do the work. Im still finding it hard to work with the posts. Remember I have poor dexterity in my hands so its my problem, not the Strata.

If I can come up with a single coil / ekowool build that gives me more vapor , then Id be "in love" with it.

My favorite so far is basically the Ophion, but using a straight piece of .8x.1 kanthal-d flat wire. With enough to run all the way around the chamber just inside the top cap wall it comes out to 1ohm every time and is fairly quick and easy to build. Plus I prefer the vape from flat wire, not sure why but it just has a nicer feel to me.

Sorry wick is organic cotton

I have tried most of the coil configurations mentioned here but the dual vertical coils work best for me.

I do blame the Strata for being really fiddly to set up. The design of the terminals make it quite difficult

to get things lined up, especially for vertical dual coils which work best out of what I have tried so far.

Also the problem of tightening the coil ends often calls for pliers or such to get things tight enough.

I have many different rebuildables (over 20) and this is the most finicky of all. It could be sorted though with minor design tweaks eg.2 piece centre post and some screw driver slots on the negs etc

That being said I find it to be a great vape and rather unique in the flavour stakes. I get a rich sort of wet tasting draw with lots of thick chewy vapour.

I was not getting good results with the ekowool in the strata. I would build a single coil and it would not wick properly for me. Hardly any vapor. When I replaced the wick with cotton it was fine. I also had good results with the German silica. The ekowool was a no go for me.
