6992 kilometers from home...
Not the batteries I use. I take them right from the charger to my ProVape units...

It all comes down to kids sub ohming on mechs without even owning or knowing how to use an ohm meter and buying e-Bay batteries... Like the kids who get hurt street racing souped up compact economy cars...

crxess: the Atlantis isn't the choice of a newbie looking for social vaping.

You mean should not be.

In this country it is very common for a New vapor to walk out of a B&M with a Mod/Tank or Mod/RDA, pre-set up and having no Idea what they have actually purchased.

Even here on ECF we constantly get questions from New Vapors on this type of gear they purchased.
No idea of resistance, coils installed, battery purchased, etc. At times I am amazed they figured out how to recharge the batteries.

In another report they claim this man worked in a vape shop in the past and had sold hundreds of clearos.

I gave up on TV long ago, calling it entertainment is very charitable IMO.

Thank you for that tune, Woofer. It's very appropriate.
It really is too bad Frank Zappa died. He was serious about becoming president
and i think he may have had a chance.

Here's something to think about.
I remember chatting with a make-up chick while doing a remote for MTV once back in the 90's..
Her husband and her were very into developing interactive television programming.
When i think of that conversation I glance over at my WIFI TV black Friday acquisition
and conclude that the internet is the new television.
Most of us are wired or somehow connected, we get our news on the net
and we watch movies and videos online.

I agree with you that calling it entertainment is generous.
But even though you and I might not find the fare entertaining, the majority of people
come home and turn on the tube...err flat panel.
Now the majority of the people that can turn on the computer, if it was off at all,
as soon as they get up or come home from work.

We live online..Now the gub'min wants to take over the net.
Think of what a united effort between the FDA and the FCC could do to vaping or anything they consider "bad".
Whether we're amused by what we see on TV or not we're influenced by it
and therefore "entertained" while they're not..

Regards,
Hazy:2cool:

With the current "explosion" (pun intended) in popularity of sub ohm tanks (no less than 9 popular tanks released in the last 4 months), sadly we're likely to see many more of these types of unfortunate events.

The LA Times link below has a video clip from Channel 2 news stating he recently purchased the e-cig at a Smoke Shop in Santa Ana (Not a vape shop):

Exploding e-cigarette: Man burned; bed set on fire - LA Times

Eyewitness 7 New Report: E-cigarette lodges into ceiling after exploding in Santa Ana man's hands | abc7.com

Despite some posters theories here that this was a multi batt mech mod, it clearly wasn't! The undamaged batt in the photos is not from the mod as the victim stated he had just changed the battery. The batt is an 18650 batt (possibly MXJO) and the mod a single batt mech mod.

New and inexperienced vapers should not be using a mech mod and sub-ohming IMHO. The Smoke Shop is clearly about to face a lawsuit! Ambulance chasing attorneys all saw this report on the news and probably raced to contact the "victim".

Oh that was a treat! How i miss regular doses of Zappa!
Agreed i wouldve been wonderful to see what else the talented guy couldve accomplished.
Im embarrassed to say I've not listened to enough in recent times.
No doubt he was the finest "self taught" composer I ever had the privilege of listening to.
Whether it was back with John Cage in what 67? Penguins in bondage or the latter Civilization works he is sadly missed.
speaking of the internet replacing the tunnel of video (TV)
I wonder how many of us still come home from work and head right for the
sound system?

time for me to pay a visit to the new members area and see the stickies...
I remember when I joined ECF in former incarnations, there were plenty of suggestions for noobs
to head up to the library and learn about what they wanted and needed...
i worry imho about the could chasing culture and yes the store built mods

This video has more info as well as an interview with the guy: 911 Caller Says Electronic Cigarette "Blew Up in My Hand" | NBC Southern California

The video says that "The oils used in e-cigs are FDA regulated, but the electronics are not." Obviously NBC has no clue what they're talking about here.

Then they interviewed some dude who they claimed was an "e-cig expert." He was some public health official from a local college and appeared to have no idea about e-cigs.

This is journalism in 2015.

Your right reign nothing online but then if I'm looking for something online I click to create extra tab then enter the name of anything I might be interested in and do some research and in my experience so do most people can't exactly create a responsible b&m by opening another right next to it gauranteed to have the info for you.

Seems strange...everyone in this thread just attacking the guy based on some photos.

Thing is, it happened again. Not going to guess on the reasons why, too many variables. Also don't care about harping on the press for being misinformed. What else is new?

The only common link is that, seems like every time something explodes, the word "mech" is involved. Perhaps more productive to stop yelling at people for being idiots every time an accident happens, and start trying to figure out how to eliminate, or at least vastly reduce, the margin of error related to "mech", keeping in mind that anyone, fool or otherwise, with money can get their hands on one. I mean, we can keep preaching here about battery safety, etc. till the cows come home, but the world beyond this forum is vast indeed.

And I wouldn't go laying all the blame on B&M's either. I don't know of any shop that's actually doing well enough to have the luxury of prioritizing safety over sales. It'd be nice if all shops were so inclined, but it's simply not a realistic expectation.

I'm not for heavy taxation and restriction, but sometimes a little regulation (as applied to devices, not governments) is a good thing. That is, barring a sudden onslaught of stories about "(insert name of regulated mod here) explodes". Maybe it's time, for us as vapers, to bring the mech chapter to an end ourselves. Peacefully, without drama, and in a way that benefits us all in the long run.

Or we can continue to just throw blame around while the whole ****house goes up in flames of gov intervention.

Agreed, guess I am just one of those people who is "on their high horse" as another poster put it who researches items before purchasing even if I am buying them in person. Whether it be electronics, car parts, or vape gear.

It just boggles my mind that the general sentiment is we need people to be protected from themselves not expect more from those people. Then again I guess its a barometer for the "everyone gets a trophy" society we live in.

Which just makes me so :censored: angry.
What happened to just expecting a child to good? Now we reward the accomplishment of graduating kindergarten??? WTH?

Sorry off topic. :offtopic:

Couldn't agree more, the reward used to be for graduating anything is that you learned something and moved on to the next challenge. I miss those days.

An unfortunate effect of a Society in which a Few feel they must control the lives of all for their own good and have the resources to pull it off<insert Gvmt. here>
Sheolpe enjoy being lead around in life clueless.
