How are the kayfuns on draw though? I have been considering a Russian 91% because the draw adjustment is on the side and the screw can be removed if desired. Does a kayfun or russian really bring out the flavor over something like a rewicked Protank 2?

That has been my only complaint with the Aerotank Mega- the flavor just isnt there. Im hoping a kayfun/russian really brings it out :D

Try it!

The thing is..there is variance.. Mostly from how tight or loose you wrap the coils.. So what one person gets from x wraps at y diameter width and z diameter guage dn mean you will get exactly the same... But it WILL be close.

Coil building is easy peasy ime/imho. Just gotta take the plunge and not be afraid of getting wet. Once most try they say..why did I wait so long!

Plus if you mess up, kanthal is CHEAP! so you errors cost just a few cents.

Yeah, I was hesitant at first, but once you get the right stuff, it is a total piece of cake. Totally worth it :D

I've been using 28 ga, 9 wraps on a 3/32" drill bit (2.38mm) on my Kayfuns. That gives me about 1.6-1.7 ohms and it's been the sweet spot for me. At 8w, the battery lasts a long time and doesn't take long to heat up.

5/64 = 1.98mm
3/32 = 2.38mm
7/64 = 2.78mm
1/8 = 3.17mm

I use organic cotton and use just enough to lay flat on the base and not cover the juice holes (3/4" from the coil on each side?). My current build on my KFL+ doesn't quite keep up with my vaping. I'll get a dry hit after 4-6 continuous puffs (~5 sec long). If that happens, I'll take a couple of strong, fast pulls w/o hitting the fire button to get the juice going and all is well. I'll have to re-wick that one. On my 3.1 with the same wick setup, it keeps up just fine even with chain vaping 10-12 puffs. The e-juices are about the same consistency in both.

One thing I've noticed is that my Kanger Aerotank and Protank 3 mini both get pretty hot after a few puffs. The Kayfuns only get warm when I'm chain vaping (more than 10 puffs per min) and they cool down faster than the Kangers. Both Kangers use dual coils and I haven't rebuilt them yet. Hopefully a single coil won't heat them up as fast.

Puf, yessir, I have covered the airhole and pulled, just to rewet the wick, and I see the little bubbles..... I'll try tightening the airflow

Soulman (if I may call you that), I've been building my EVOD/Kanger coils for a couple months - love, love, love doing that. I have 100' (well a little less now) of 30g kanthal, so I don't think I'll run out any time soon ;)

I think I'm gonna go for a larger diameter. Next question - I noticed one coil had the leads to the screw posts coming from the top of the coil, and another with the leads to the screwposts from the bottom. Any thoughts on that? Don't know if it really makes any difference?

Gonna go to the chem lab - trying to decide what new flavor to mix for the day :D

KTM, thanks, bro. Next time you wick, can you post a pic for me? I've been cutting the tails so they just touch the deck, and not lay on it. That seems to help for me.

I just want to thank everyone on this thread - I see the regulars out here, and I learn so much from you folks. I feel like you're my brothers and sisters, and I really appreciate you all :)

The Kayfuns have a more airy draw than the Kanger, both wide open. I had an aftermarket drip tip on my Kayfuns and I went back to the stock tip on one of them (KFL+) because it was too airy for me. I usually vape mouth to lung so it took a bit of getting used to how airy the Kayfuns were.

I definitely notice a flavor difference between my Aerotank and Kayfun. I just got some Moo Juice from Mt Baker Vapor and filled up both the Aerotank and KFL+. The flavor is more muted on the Aerotank. More dense clouds from the Kayfun too. :vapor:

Shouldn't make a difference as long as the contact is good.

This isn't my pic but this is how I have my wicks set up and it seems to work well when they're set up.

I use a pick to keep them clear of the juice holes but it doesn't seem to matter much either way.

One other thing I want to mention is that my KFL+ is an EHPro clone and the 3.1 is from Fasttech. The EHPro is awesome and highly recommend it. I'm actually thinking of getting the KFL+v2 from EHPro. The 3.1 is a pain to fill from the fill hole with the ball valve. I'm always leaking juice when I try so I usually fill from the top but I get leaking there too when I screw the top on but not as much. I noticed the chimney isn't exactly centered and it pinched the o-ring once and caused leaking from the airhole and wasted almost a tank full of juice (about 4ml). I don't like the 3.1 mainly because filling is a pain in the ... and it's also bigger than the KFL+. When it's set up right, it works great but you definitely have to be more careful putting it together. The EHPro has much better fit and also works great with less user error problems.

If I never had the EHPro, I probably would've gotten an authentic Kayfun because the design is just awesome and the 3.1 clone does have some warts as stated above. The EHPro is very well made. I heard the HCigar is also a great clone but I have no experience with them.

I have a KFL with no airflow from an eBay seller. It is a China clone, but I lucked out as the draw is perfect for me and no problems except cracking tanks with my citrus juices. I ordered that 7 color set from fasttech , so they should last a while.

The glass conversion kits are about $40. I hope someone comes up with a center metal section with little juice windows or something...Don't you agree Kayfun users?
That is my only beef with the device though, it is amazingly different than any others I have tried.

Love my KFL on my MVP, they are never apart except for refilling ;)

I thought about the EHPro clone, but heard some complain of a tight draw. That said, the Protank 2 with the older-style Aerotank base (with one of the 3 holes drilled out to 1/16th) has the perfect draw. As long as the EHPro hits like that, ill buy it. Totally down with an RBA as awesome as everyone has made them sound.

Update - 1.7ohm coil in one of the mini's. Wrapped around one of my screwdrivers. Nice tuft of cotton - EXCELLENT hits and so far (knock on wood) no burnt ones :)

Guess the KF's get the screwdriver bit, and I'll keep with the 1/16th for my kanger/evod heads.

Fresh charge on the ol' MVP - happy, happy, happy :D

Thanks to all for your assistance

Cool. Do you know the approximate dimensions of the screwdriver so I know for future reference? (5/64s, etc)

What guage of wire do you use?

Here's the quartz kit (they also have a mini version) for under $5. I hear the glass is thin so get a few spares if you order.

The tight draw comes from the drip tip. It has a small 2mm hole. If you replace the drip tip, it opens up a LOT. I found it works perfect for me. I tried with another drip tip with a much bigger hole (5-6mm) and it was too open for me. The KFL+v2 comes with a different tip and I don't know how big the hole is.

Cool. Do you know the approximate dimensions of the screwdriver so I know for future reference? (5/64s, etc)

If the screwdriver is the double end that most of these come with, it's 2mm or 5/64" (1.98mm). I found it to be a bit small and the 3/32" works really well for me.

Rbas/rdas do rock and are way cheaper bc you don't have to ever buy coils.. Plus tend to be more customizable.

Via spontaneous binary code

Yep. The main reason for getting an RBA was so I didn't have to buy any more coils. I was paying $2-$4 per cartomizer from Vea. I got fed up when 3 in a row were duds and the 4th barely lasted 1ml of juice.

I picked up an Aerotank just to see if they were as good as everyone says. They're MUCH better than the Vea carts but after using my Kayfuns, they aren't used much. I'll keep them for back ups but with 2 Kayfuns, I don't think they'll get much use at all. Especially since I'm trying to talk myself out of buying another Kayfun. Yes, they're that good.

everyone was all  with the first aspire bdc
enuff that I finally got one - not very impressed...

now this bvc is the hot ticket, so I'll just hold off till
a few hundred-thousand circulate and the reviews hold true...

- Atomizer head for Aspire Nautilus BVC (V2)

Well...for what it's worth...GrimmGreen gave the Aspire BDC's a mediocre review...the BVC's he said "feel like a cartotank" and have "replaced his Kayfuns".

BVC V2...Wonder how the Version 2 BVC differs from the 1st???
