I will be in the US when I will need to find Kanthal D - 0.20 mm and the #400 SS mesh. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I might obtain these needed items in America? Thanks :)

Ebay or Amazon for Kanthal. I highly recommend Kanthal A-1. It tastes cleaner and lasts longer than Kanthal D. Before you ask how I know that, long story short, I work across the street from a Sandvik factory where this stuff is made and they told me what temps and stresses the grades have as well as their specific properties. If you can find it I would actually buy some of the new Kantal APM. It has a slightly higer max temp than Kanthal A-1 and resists carbonization so it will last a good long time and need less cleaning :)

Stainless Mesh can be purchased from McMaster-Carr or The Mesh Company.

That is A-1, it's great stuff and is what I am using right now. There is a newer alloy called Kanthal APM that may be hard to find for a while because it's newer so the surplus guys don't have much of it yet :)

From the info I have found on APMit sounds like really awesome heating wire. It has a slightly higher max temp, greater hot strength and is resistant to building up carbon deposits.

I just got a 5lb Roll directly from Kanthal.com of 34AWG Kanthal A-1, I also got a sample of the APM, it is some very good stuff, both of them are. Dont try to place a small order though if you go to Kanthal.com, I had to buy 5LB Roll and it was $232 I got a lifetime supply :)

You guys could always go in 5 or 10 ways and split up a nice big roll to lower the co$t

There is an odd inconsistency in that auction. He has it listed as Kanthal A-1 875 alloy.... 875 alloy is APM so I wonder if it's just mis labeled. If so I'll be buying a new spool :) I just sent the sender a request for clarification of the wire grade he's selling. I'll let you know what the seller says when he replies.

That is an awful lot of wire man, you will be set for a few lifetimes, lol.

Thank you Atty Rebuilding Gods ............... OK one more ( of many more I suspect) question from the new lass....
POC suggests .20mm wire, the suggestions I have seen here seem to suggest different gauges..... I suspect that gauge relates to ohms and I am not fond of the "hot" draw but adore massive vapor (I use high % VG)..... What gauge wire should I seek?..... Several gauges to play with:confused: Or is it the number of wraps about the mesh that determines the ohms:confused: Or is it a combination of gauge, wraps, battery size, phase of the moon. LOL this is really not the proper thread for these questions soooo

I glad you like the posts :)

I also use higher VG liquids. What you are going to want to use is #325 mesh and 4 wraps of .020 Kanthal A-1. The vapor will be barely warm and you will have LOTS of it. If you look at my pics from earlier in this thread (post #12), that is the vapor from the exact setup I described above. It is not hot, not cool, just about body temp. Very smooth and comfortable. Good TH (OK LOTS of TH and amazing flavor) and of course tons of vapor.
