EVS is another identity/age verification service like Bluecheck and Veratad. They appear to store personal information once they've collected it (a red flag in my book) here's the disclosure excerpt from their privacy policy;

Disclosure

We may disclose any of the information we collect from or about you (as described above) to the following types of entities upon written request: regulatory authorities; affiliated or partner companies, such as data bureaus; or an entity that has executed a service or product contract with Electronic Verification Systems for purposes of providing our software solution(s).

We do not disclose the personal identity information data you provide to us via our online software to any third party for any marketing purposes. We do not sell, trade, or distribute the information we collect from you to outside vendors or third parties unrelated to the services provided by Electronic Verification Systems. This type of information may be disclosed to authorized regulatory authorities, upon request, as required by law.

Here's a link to their privacy policy in its entirety; Privacy Statement | Electronic Verification Systems (EVS)

They do make multiple references to using a person's S.S.# for verifications and imply it enables them to exceed minimum regulatory compliance (second red flag in my book). Identity Verification | Electronic Verification Systems (EVS) Home

Crap! :w00t:

Thanks Str8.

Can I make a suggestion?

Instead of saying "I'm going to stop using the vendor that is using xx AV", maybe contact the vendor and suggest that they switch to a different age verification system and give them the name of one that YOU feel comfortable using.

At least give the vendor a fighting chance to keep your business!

Excellent suggestion. Thanks Robin or Robino. :p

First, thanks tmcase very much for this thread. I have a couple for the list- vapemoar and Alice in Vapeland are Blue Check. To those worried that this is a blacklist or will put Mom-n-Pops out of business, those places were going to lose my business anyway. If I'm trying to place an order and I'm asked for my SSN I'll order from another US site or, failing that, China (no age questions on my last, post 8-8 fasttech order). Doing in-house age verification might be more than a small site wants to deal with, but adding an option for USPS adult signature required shipping shouldn't be much of a problem. I'd have no problem with an added charge. Maybe some sites that have, say, free shipping over $50 could have an upgrade for free signature required shipping over $100. Showing an ID at the Post Office for nicotine seems fair enough to me- same inconvenience as buying alcohol or cigs.
Yeah, I don't have a problem showing my driver's license in person, but sending it across the internet - NOPE!

A thoughtful and enlightened idea that would certainly benefit everyone involved. I go a step further and offer a brief explanation (from a customer's perspective) as to why I believe one verification service/method is better than another.

With the help of retired1 I have created a Google Doc with the list in it. You can view it here:
Vendor Age Verification Procedure List

If I understand correctly, by clicking on this link you should be able to see any changes or additions that I make.
I can only view. No editing privileges.

Works beautifully!

Reread the post and realized that you weren't saying that we should be able to edit

All right, just got off the phone with ecig.com and he said the photo ID was recommended by their attorney FOR NOW and they are working on another system that won't be so intrusive. He said he didn't blame me, that he was also a victim of identity theft but for now they have to do it this way. I asked him if I called back in a couple of weeks before placing a order if that be ok. He said sure, he didn't have a problem with that. I asked him if he would think I was badgering him and he said, no not at all and he didn't blame me.

So there, they're working on it. It seems to me they are CYA for now.

I'm glad you got through. I called and ask for some in charge and that person wasn't available so I called back later and he was on the phone so I left a msg and never got a call back. I'm not too happy about that but glad you got through and thanks for doing that. Good info.

Can't remember it it's "stock" or an add-on on my FF install, but look under tools, Web Developer, and it's there :)

Tried that and still couldn't find the data needed. Wonder if I have to be on the check-out page?

BTW- looks like EVS is Last Four FIRST, then DL......And quite possibly after payment.
