I just got an email that Lightning Vapes will be using Blue Check. Has that already been posted here?

Yes, it is on the list.

Got the same email. And 30 seconds after I fired off a reply email, there was another from Lightning Vapes that they'll be using Veratad by the end of the month.

Just came back to post that same thing.

His reply to me:

'Just got off the phone with Veratad. If all goes well, we should be up and running with them by the end of next week.'

I just received this from Lighting Vapes

Well this is embarassing... How About Veratad?
A handful of you voiced concerns about submitting your personal data to Bluecheck, and how that data would be stored, used, etc. WE ARE LISTENING! Some of the folks who voiced concerns offered an alternative to BlueCheck, called Veratad. Veratad seems to be more secure, more private, more easily customizable, and all around a better solution. We've been in touch with Veratad this evening, and have plans to launch their age verification service on our website potentially as soon as the end of next week. Keep your eyes peeled for further emails, we will certainly let you know when Veratad is live.

Guess the input is working!

I just received an email from Sean at Lightning Vapes saying he is switching to Veratad (sp?)by next week. On my phone or I would quote the email. He said he is switching because of customers saying they won't do Blue Check and prefer Veritad. I also had the previous email re Blue Check. So he is listening to his customers.

Jugband beat me to it!

As best I can tell, and if someone can correct me, great, but it seems to me Bluecheck got thrown together to cater to online vape shops as soon as the Deeming regs came out. It appears they did it by reaching out through vendor associations and probably targeted email. For the average vendor out there, who has little no prior experience with age verification, the idea of being catered to by a verification service "specializing" in vape stuff, was probably attractive. They also came in at a low price which I believe was a $250 setup fee and $0.50 per verification.

Veratad has been at this for over 10 years, not only doing age verification, but identity verification and even knowledge verification, all to assure an identity is legitimate. They do it for banks, e commerce, healthcare, and more. Their startup costs are considerably more, and the cost per verification may or may not be higher. I have no idea. Veratad does appear to be "professional" but they've been at this over 10 years, and in industries even more demanding the vaping. While I'm sure they're happy with new business, I have a feeling (no idea if accurate) they hardly marketed themselves as aggressively as Bluecheck did.

The larger vendors with deeper pockets and likely full time IT staff would have weighed both services (as well as others) before deciding. A smaller vendor, without a full time IT department and a more limited budget may have understandably opted for Bluecheck.

This is a transition time for both vendor and vapers. There are bound to be many issues, large and small over the first few months. Vendors benefit from feedback about their services, although not all offer the same attention to customer needs. I believe folks should only deal with vendors they are comfortable doing business with. I believe Bluecheck is having major growing pains, and might even be in a bit over their head at present. But I also believe in this delicate time when vape companies out there are trying to figure out how to navigate these new waters. Vendors really do not benefit from lost business, and punishing them for making good faith efforts at compliance with poorly defined FDA regulations (photo ID or not for online, how much personal info is needed to complete a verification) will be counterproductive and possibly result in the loss of more smaller businesses here.

I believe if a customer chooses to not complete a verification such as Bluecheck runs, it's important to let the vendor know that and not simply empty your shopping cart. Without constructive feedback they will find themselves losing more business at a time when their expenses are going up.

tl;dr if you don't like the age verification system a seller is using, be sure to let them know why so they can adjust as they see fit.

Edit: looks like from the posts showing up while typing all this feedback seems to be working

Everybody should read this .pdf file. They say in plain language that they collect SSN, not last 4 of SSN (page 2). It also say what else they collect which I've already included at the top of the list. As far as I know most Bluecheck vendors are only asking for last 4 of SSN.

What good is the last 4 of the SSN if they don't have the whole SSN? Can any of these AV services get our whole SSN? :w00t:

Great to know company's are listening! Maybe with a lot of luck we'll see the end of Blue Check, or at the very least a lot less.
I don't mind being carded somehow but I demand it be unintrusive (Ha! Beat the spell checker again!) into my personal data. I'm weary of identity theft.

The guys at Lightning Vapes are pretty cool, I'm sure they'll go with the proper flow.
