Ummm, since I don't have my air car, I consider it the 'jettison' era...

And how do you jettison yourself these days, Iffy?

I normally don't have a choice; others tend to do that to and for me!

As for transportation, I've owned an early '99 two door, short wheel base Tahoe for eleven years now. Can't foresee ever gettin' rid of it.

I only had one 60's! How'd you get another? Oh, and I was really little during my 60's. I love Skype. I remember when i lived overseas in the 80's and spent a fortune on phone calls and it took forever to get a letter home. I think good behavior is overrated, but respect isn't highly rated enough.

You reach the age of 60. It'd be my guess that the first set is more fun.

Hey you guys, I just had a personal brainstorm moment.
If the FDA blocks nicotine sales, all we have to do is grow the flower, Nicotiana National Garden Bureau :: Year Of.... I've grown it for years -- it reseeds itself every year so you don't even have to replant it.
Guess what the leaves are?????!!!!! Nicotine!

Some facts from a wikipedia article on Nicotine:

"History and name: Nicotine is named after the tobacco plant Nicotiana tabacum, which in turn is named after Jean Nicot de Villemain, French ambassador in Portugal, who sent tobacco and seeds brought from Brazil by the Portuguese colonist in São Paulo, Luís de Góis (also a future jesuit in India), to Paris in 1560, and promoted their medicinal use. Nicotine was first isolated from the tobacco plant in 1828 by physician Wilhelm Heinrich Posselt and chemist Karl Ludwig Reimann of Germany, who considered it a poison.[10][11] Its chemical empirical formula was described by Melsens in 1843,[12] its structure was discovered by Adolf Pinner and Richard Wolffenstein in 1893, and it was first synthesized by A. Pictet and Crepieux in 1904.[13]

Historical use of nicotine as an insecticide: Tobacco was introduced to Europe in 1559, and by the late 17th century, it was used not only for smoking but also as an insecticide. After World War II, over 2,500 tons of nicotine insecticide (waste from the tobacco industry) were used worldwide, but by the 1980s the use of nicotine insecticide had declined below 200 tons. This was due to the availability of other insecticides that are cheaper and less harmful to mammals.[4]

Currently, nicotine is a permitted pesticide for organic farming because it is derived from a botanical source. Nicotine sulfate sold for use as a pesticide is labeled "DANGER," indicating that it is highly toxic.[5] However, in 2008, the EPA received a request to cancel the registration of the last nicotine pesticide registered in the United States.[14] This request was granted, and after 1 January 2014, this pesticide will not be available for sale.[15]"
--Sandybeach's notes: WTF?

How to extract Nicotiana for use as a pesticide, 1924 article:http://www.sciencemag.org/content/60/1555/365.extract]NICOTIANA RUSTICA AS A SOURCE OF NICOTINE FOR INSECT CONTRO[/COLOR]L

From a wikipedia article on Nicotiana:
"Nicotiana is used in genetics, callus research, and plant cytology and kinetin research in biotechnology:"
"Many species of Nicotiana are also grown as ornamental plants. They are popular vespertines, their sweet-smelling flowers opening in the evening to be visited by hawkmoths and other pollinators.
--Sandybeach's notes -- This is probably why they are reseed so easily each year.

From an e-how article - What is Nicotiana:
"...Nicotiana is good for pollenators, it is poisonous to almost everyone else, since most parts of the plant contain nicotine; chew-prone pets and curious children (and adults) should be closely supervised when in the area."

Nope, the FDA ain't gonna get us. Not when the vaping community has people that have access to soil and water.

first off - since I just got caught up again:

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bluesman & Bluesgirl. I know how scary brain surgery can be - Colin's had at least 20 of them (I'm sure Blues can relate). We dodged the bullet 2 months ago, but there's a chance that any day his shunt could seriously malfunction and we'd be in the same boat. Colin says that if Blues is already up to flirting and wanting the internet, he's gonna be okey dokey, lol!

Ironically, the same day that Blues had his surgery, Colin's mom underwent a medical procedure for her MS to place stents in her blood vessels in her brain where the most common areas are for bad blood flow. She says that the surgery was a miracle and that she hasn't felt so healthy in 20 years. They went up through the big artery in her leg, like they do for heart stents, and it all went really well. She should be home in Fairbanks tonight (she was sent to California to have it done) so we're happy that she made it through her procedure as well (one of the reasons I haven't been around much - we've been waiting on news). Rave - this was the study I was telling you about - pm me if you want any info now that she's had it done.

I have my SSDI hearing in 2 days. My lawyer says that my case is stronger for mental illness than for physical reasons and that she thinks it's going to go well. I really really really hope so! I'll be heading up to Columbus in exactly 49 hours! EEEEK!

What do you all use for transportation mostly? Bike, plane, walking, car, motorcycle, transporter, etc?

I drive a 1996 Nissan Altima GXE that only has 116k on it. I got it in 2000 and it had 67K on it. That means I've only added 49k miles in 12 years, lol!!! I am the little old young lady that drives nowhere! It's only been further than 50 miles about 8 times since I moved here to Ohio (I rolled 111111 when I got here in March 2008), so I've only added 5k in 4 years! That must be why my car insurance is less than $37 a month!

Wow Daisy & Sandy - you're up early. I've been up since about 3 a.m. personally.

Blues has a potload of tests today. What fun. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

I've been up since 8 pm, lol! I know what kind of not fun those tests are. Pupil checks, jittery eye checks, limb checks - it goes on and freaking on and on - send them both our best wishes :)

I drive a 2000 Chevy Malibu. I bought it in 2002 with 60,000 miles on it. It runs like a champ - have only gotten it up to 100,000 miles, because when I was a chauffeur, I drove it to work on Monday and left it there until Friday.

I have a bike which I rarely use. I live in the really urban suburb of Evanston, two blocks from the Chicago border. I only like biking on paved bike trails. Not city, but out in forest preserves. I also like biking out in the country.

I like walking two or three miles a day for fun. I like walking the mile to Lake Michigan, then down the lakefront and back home again, usually with the dog.

I WANT to be sleeping in! My internal alarm keeps waking me up at 5:30. My normal summer sleep schedule is; stay up til 2, get up at 9. Fingers crossed, check. Toes crossed, check. C'mon, Blues, pass those tests with flying colors so you can be back here with us!!!!

Rave,
I got up at 3:30 :)
Love being an early riser!!!
Hugs, fingers, toes, and many-paws crossed!
Sandy

Wow, 3:30 is REALLY early! Do you go back to bed then?
