So true.

I am just west of Chicago, I grew up around here. It's so different. Metropolis, not my childhood. We drove out to see my grandparents house, where I have a lot of good childhood memories. The whole area is so different. 4 lane highways, industry, housing neighborhoods where there used to be farmland. Even my grandparent's little 2 bedroom house is gone. Replaced by an ugly 2 story habitat (house). It was kinda sad, but life goes on. At least the lake Grampa and I used to go fishing on and we skated on in the winter is still there, albeit surrounded by houses not woods. I guess they call this progress, but I call it ya can't go home.

Tomorrow will be good, though. Gonna go to my sister's, do laundry, and hang out. Looking forward to it!

Oh, and we did have the best Doberman National ever, $$$. A "new" vehicle is in my future! Off to Atlanta next.
Family time! Woohooo!
Sad to go visit the places we used to live & remember so fondly, only to see so many changes & missing pieces.
New car! Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!!

Burlington Northern and Santa Fe holds meaning to me because Burlington refers to the city in Iowa. Mississippi river flows in my blood-- what can I say?
Yeah Bulington Northern came about during the big merger of the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Seattle Portland and Spokane and the Chicago Burlington and Quincy. That happened in early 1970.

And Quincy Illinois is 71 miles down the Mississippi from Burlington Iowa. And my hometown is halfway between. Major RR bridge at Ft. Madison. I think Amtrak still uses it.

The prior NP and GN guys really made out like fat cats on that one. They were guaranteed not to make less miles in a month (We got paid by the Mile) then they were making at the time. If they did they got guarantee. Believe me the RR never made that mistake again. In mergers after that we got nothing. It was a big headache for the RR and they paid for it till they were all retired.

@clnire, congrats on a great show, and even more on a new vehicle! Yay!!!

@Kenna, how was Mack??? New pix (she asked, wistfully)?

@kad2371, BBC America had a Who marathon, yesterday. I watched a bunch of episodes, and recorded a few more (which is silly, given I can watch all of them on Amazon Prime). The final three episodes from last season endeared Peter Capaldi to me. Such a good actor! I'm looking forward to the new season...

Maybe I can make a soufflé after all!

Here is how a friends trip ended last night. The driver survived because she was drunk. Not a good ending to a shift.

Locomotive 1 car 0. Good thing it was in a 20mph area. In a race to the crossing the train always wins.

I stopped at a train track the other night - you could see the train coming closer. The car behind me went around me and crossed the track - he had room because the train was going slow, but I still see him as one of the stupidist persons on earth...
