Interesting! The 10440s I received from Janty are 360mAh capacity; those UltraFires are 500mAh, about 40% more capacity if all the numbers are true.

The 500mAh rating isn't true. Many battery companies overrate their batteries to get you to buy them. The highest true rating for a 10440 battery is 360mAh.

Hey guys,

Just an update... Shortly after the first battery did this, I was goin at it with the same atty, and a totally different battery stuck in a similair way. I immediatelly unscrewed the atty as I did not have the cone on it. I checked the batt right away and all was good, but a close call.

I left the one fried battery on my kitchen counter overnight, and when I got up this morning I noticed this odd smell... Yup its coming from that battery. Its that strange smell that I can only describe as "Ozoneish" I have since put it in a plastic bag.

If the "Dimple" in the center is the distinguishing factor between warranty and non warranty batts, looks like Im SOL! LOL Go figure!

Things like this happen, I just wish I knew what exactly happened! :p

I've been eyeing the same thing....

Here is a recent post from Ethan:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/jantyusa/74634-current-status-janty-usa.html
Hey all, so I've been getting a TON of emails regarding the current stock levels at Janty USA, and rightfully so! I have drafted this response for all inquiries regarding the issue and thought I would post it here:

Thank you for your inquiry and I’d like to apologize for the current state of our inventory. The Chinese New Year occurred last month, during which our factory was closed for virtually the entire month. Due to the ever-growing number of customers and demand of our products, it is at this point very apparent that we underestimated our stock prior to the holiday. We are expecting to be fully replenished in all of our items very soon; however, I will not give an estimate as to the exact date as doing so would be negligent on my part. I can assure you that as soon as I have a better idea in terms of the physical arrival of stock, I will let it be known either on the front page of Janty USA or here on the forum. We are taking measures to avoid such gaps in our inventory in the future. I can only ask for your patience in the matter and assure you that we will be getting more products in and moving towards improving Janty USA as a whole.

OK being one the first ones to ask for an XL eGo battery, I am now awaiting with baited breath for the specs on this unit. It looks to be as I said it should be, about an inch longer than the original. So looking forward to this, I have not been this excited... well I can not recall being this excited :). Is it me or is it that in chrome the XL looks to be thinner?

I don't know what happened to mine either, but I always screw my batt into the charger all the way. It just started to go back down to 4 hrs today.
Both my batteries in the eGo kit have the cut hole in the middle and from my understanding, these dimples are there from when they machined them. So the stock could be held in a chuck.
This is the end pc of that stock and I have one that is flat too. Good thing I had another battery (this leaves me two now) so I sent the "dead" one back to Janty and when I get the new one, I WILL be sending this other one back cause of the descripancies from time of 4 or 7 hrs. Its not right. Why does the buttom LED flash 5 times? when vaping? Is it a code ?
It happened to the attery that died. Just to let you know Mik. That one flashed 5 times @ intervals. I believe it was 3 times it flashed 5x and then I heard the sizzle (after putting it down) and quickly unscrewed the cone and atty off. At 1st I thought it was my oven (I was cooking dinner) LOL.
I did smell like the oder of plastic melting from the batt and it wasn't the cart either.

Ok something is going drastically wrong here.... I have now fried 3 of my ego batteries in less than 24hrs. All batteries had no dimple in them, and all were using the same Janty Dura Atty that came with my kit.

I noticed the past few days that my attys were getting SUPER hot with only a 2-3 second draw, I know the 510 attys get hot, but not that quick. Before all this happened, I fried a Joye 510 atty. No biggie, switched to my dura atty. Thats when all hell broke loose.

This afternoon while vaping I saw the LED flash around 4 times, and heard the never ending sizzle.... I got the atty off in time, but the battery was toast just like the first one.

This evening while I was packing for my move I was vaping and set my ego on my desk standing up. I turned around to pack a box, and my partner was like "Dude look at your ecig!" I looked at it, and saw vapor billowing out of the airholes pretty forcefully. The atty melted the cart. I threw the batt on the charger once it cooled to see if it was dead. The charger WAS NOT plugged into the wall but when the batt was screwed in the LED on the USB charger as well as the mains adapter were lit up. This was so odd as there was no power. I checked my two other Dead batts and the same thing happened... its like the battery was powering the LED on the charger (Note- The LED on the battery itself was NOT illuminated)

This is all so strange, I dont know whats going on. Im terrified to use that Dura atty as I believe in some way, thats what is causing this... at the price of ego batts, I cant afford to lose anymore! 8-o

Im going to open a ticket with Ethan just to see whats going on. Heres to hoping this is simply an isolated incident! Thanks for investigating too Mik- I know you are a busy guy, and really dont have much to do with these kind of issues. No wonder Im a Janty fanboy!

I'll keep you all posted.

RIA - not that it should have anything to do with it, but out of curiosity what is your charging routine with these batteries? You mention using the USB charger... do you always use it, or have you tried any other chargers? How long do you leave them on there, etc?

Just curious.
This is a really odd case... and seems hard to believe you'd get THAT many bum batteries when we haven't heard any similar reports of batteries frying like that.

I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

@justsomeguy

90% of the time I charge my batts using the USB connected to a mains charger. Plugged right into the wall. I cant say with honesty that I always pull them off the charger right after they are done charging, but typicalls they dont stay on the charger any longer than 4 hours, and even thats pretty rare. Once or twice I fell asleep with a batt on the charger and it was on overnight, but thats about it.

Thats why Im so stumped. Im using a different ego battery with a different atty and having no problems at all. Could the atty I was using be causing this? Its just so strange 3 batts in 24hrs. Id be more than happy to send the dead batts in just so that Janty can figure out what happened. Hell, I'll even pay to ship them to Mik if I need to. :p

The one battery (The last one I cooked) got so hot that I think the LED started to melt or something... the button has sunken into the casing, and cant even push it anymore. Ive got a few pics I will try to upload in the morning.

There have been some reports of button sticking on these batteries. I have one with a sticky button, but when it has stuck the light stays on... which isn't what you're describing (unless I misunderstood).

Not sure what exactly you have going on there...but it's definitely weird.

I don't know enough about this stuff to understand whether or not the atty could be a contributing factor, but I don't see how it could, seems like the battery should be controlling it's output - not the atty.

You may want to try using a standard 510 charger just to see if you have any further issues (once you get some other batteries). I'd be curious for them to take a look at the charger as much as the batteries, honestly. Just seems odd that 3 batteries would all fry like that... and if the charger is the one constant in the equation it would seem like a good idea to take it out of the rotation and see if you can recreate the problem.
(not that you want to lose yet another battery).
