Maybe the coil has a short, try tapping the coil to see if the ohm's jump. just a shot in the dark.
Hi L. Many guys are using 16 or 17 gauge. A 1/16" drill bit works fine also. Yes, the lower the number the larger the diameter.What size luer were you guys using for micro coils? And the lower the number the larger the diameter?

Okay nerd (j/k). Don't know the physics but a good performing coil always heats from the middle of the coil outward. You made a nice one! Cotton wick should just barely provide a little resistance when you pull it through.
