Ok. After everything I've said, I'm thinking about ordering a few more packs of these things. Maybe the one I used today was just a dud. Maybe? When the others were performing, they were performing well. Right up to the point where I got that charred taste, which took about a full day vaping five, six, or seven times a day about the amount of puffs as one cigarette each time. How frequently can you vape using these cartos? I didn't feel like I was over-using them. How long should one complete fill up last in theory? I know all the juices are different, but I mean just generally for most of you how long does a completely full carto last and how often do you vape?

I have been plagued with this problem ever since I began using E2's. I learned right away not to disturb the black part of a wick in the cup slots. Some users do not have this problem.
Recently, a few of mine do not have a buildup there and I do not why. Many of my tests are to determine why. Part of my investigation is testing the wick material. So far, I have not seen a difference in the material. I remove these things from the tube or outer shell for inspection, then put them back in for further testing. I've done this so many times that it is now a routine.
If you use a lighter such as a Bic to test for burning, it will leave black soot on the wick. A clean burning torch does not leave any soot.
Ok, here's a question for you. I just remembered that the very first carto I used out of the pack, I tried to rinse and dry burn and was going to refill. I rinsed, dry burned and then moved on to a new carto because the blackness and gunk would not burn away into chunks of ash like everone has referred to. I had forgotten that I tried that. I just moved on afterward because I didn't want to continue using that one till I knew the gunk was off and it was clean. Does the black gunk give it a bad taste? A charred taste?
Also, in case I order more, what's a good method to get the third plug out of there? Those things are a Royal pain to get out. When I took some out today it wasn't without tearing them. After being torn a little I'm sure they're useless right?

A lot of it depends on the juice you're using. I get 3 (count 'em, 3) refills on a carto before I have to set it aside for cleaning. The wick is totally black and the performance drops to almost zero. I put a few drops of vinegar on the coil, let it set overnight, then rinse and dry burn it until that black mass turns into a gray/white mass - at which point I take the end of a pointed tweezer and (gently) scrape off the old burnt ash. The I turn the carto upside down and bump it on the desktop a few times to knock out the ash. One more quick dry burn and I have an almost new-looking wick again.
My experience with these is that once they've been used (made wet with juice) it's best not to disturb them. They will come apart if you mess with them too much. It doesn't affect how they work, however...
A buildup on the wick in this area reduces the wicking capability. The taste I get is about the same as when the tank is running dry. But then, we all use different juices under different circumstances, so YMMV.
Check out Vermont Vapor. They have a sub-forum here on ECF in the supplier section. I believe they have some flavors with only trace amounts of PG.

Ok. PTB on the coil works great. Took my bottle mod and went a little further. (see pic) Wrapped a full lenght piece of PTB tight, shoved it into cup slots and twined it around air tube and "real" wick.( hehehehe he said twined hehehehe ).. (SHUT UP BEAVES!!) and stuck it down in the remaining carto cup. Trying to get it to wick carto empty.

rbonie keep an eye on the section of PTB at the coil. The one I did shrank and got brittle pretty quickly.
Got one on a 510 at 5 volts. Been hittin it hard for the last 2 days and it's still my goto vape!!Just checked it again and there is 1 leeetle bitty spot of char showing. Otherwise seems to be holding well.
On a different note. Been MAX hitting this bottle mod for the last several minutes and YOU CAN'T OUT VAPE IT!!! .nO DRY BURN OR NUTTIN!! i'M DIZZY AS HELL BUT SO FAR SO GOOD.
My kids would say I've been dizzy for years..... :>)

Ok. I tried to dig those cartos out of the trash, then realized that bag was already taken out today and didn't feel like digging through garbage.
Here's another question for whoever would like to give it a shot. Assuming the black gunk builds up far enough away from the coil and won't burn off, would that stop the "coil part" of the wick to not absorb any liquid? In other words, cause a blockage?Just something I read earlier and was curious if there is any truth to it. If that could happen, then maybe there was no juice getting to the coil and I was just basically vaping that gunk build-up. It was quite dry and charcoal scented/tasting, though I've never actually put a piece of charcoal in my mouth.
I have ordered two more packs of cartos from Vapor Junction and ordered juice from Vermont Vapor hoping that maybe the results will be different.
Maybe it was just the gunk getting so heavy that the wick broke apart, especially since I removed it from the cup which I now know I am not supposed to do.

what you showed was gunk, the wick does not burn , saying it over and over wont change that, unless you and jason received different wicks then thats one thing, but in fact, no matter what you do or how hard you try the wick does not and can not burn, what your seeing is something totaly different.
The wick outside the cup won't get the same kind of gunk build-up as that on the coil. It does turn black but it's not the same. It's the build-up on the coil that most affects performance.
I am assuming there is no easy way to remove the filler plug in these things, but is there a tool or some method that would make it simpler? The ones I removed today were almost impossible. I destroyed all of them I think.
i use a thin... very thin flathead screwdriver.. and pry up where the slits are.. once u get the "knack" of it it is quite simple....
others use some sort of dental tools as well
