I started vaping about a year ago, on and off. I'm a non smoker... started at 0mg but soon tried 6-8mg just to see what it's like..... and this whole time i've been vaping ive never once craved it nor have I felt any adverse affects.

I like vaping, its a fun hobby, and the nic helps me with my stress, and the little buzz is calming, and its helping me with over-eating and my OCD too.

I know nicotine is a dangerous thing to play with, but thus far I'm not addicted to it in any way... I go through around .5-1.5 ml per day..... I do lung hits usually (TH is nice) and still, nothing... am I just special, high tolerance? I'm just kind of confused...

I dont mean to belittle anyone's addiction to nicotine, but I feel like its less addicting thru vaping or something... have any studies been done on this, am I the only one who feels this?

inb4 why did you start vaping if you dont smoke
inb4 why are you trying nicotine if you dont smoke

I think we who smoked became conditioned/addicted to the chemical soup in cigarettes much more than the nicotine. One of the times I reverted to having a cigarette, I had an American Spirit, which has far less of those additives. I found it far less satisfying than a regular cigarette, even though the nicotine was there.

As an alien, I become addicted on rather pure tobacco, no additives. Tobacco itself has a lot of "additives".

It took millions of years for life forms to develop a brain capable of subjective thinking. Nicotine played a key role in that. Nicotine still aids cognitive development.
You probably got your first dose of nicotine when mommy put catsup on her burger before you were even born.

Some people are far less prone to addiction than others. I've had friends who smoked casually/socially and never had issues stopping...not so much for me...I've also known people who quit using the gum and had to use it for months (and in one case years) and were definitely addicted to the gum.

Nicotine is definitely addictive. Less via vape than cigarettes? That I don't know.

Vaping only .5-1.5 mls of juice a day, could explain it.
I get cravings, but not as bad as when smoking.

Every person on the planet is addicted to nicotine. It's in our food chain.

Fact is the human race would't even exist (as we know it) without nicotine.
It's just one of many substances that make us what we are.
Every person on the planet is "addicted" to nicotine? Are you sure about that?????

Cravings are pretty good way to measure addiction in a non-clinical way.

If you are in some place where not allowed to use, and your mind is pre-occupied with getting out to use it, that would be craving and sign of plausible addiction.

Nicotine as an addiction is, IMHO, very very very tame. I can imagine scenario where if full blown, it could be destructive to the person, but in age of vaping, I really never encounter that anymore.

A very good way to put idea of whether or not you're addicted is to stop for 30 days and see how those days are for you. Are you missing it strongly, wishing you could just have one more puff, or looking forward to the test being done so you can get back to using? If yes, then that would be pretty decent indication you were / are addicted.

When I quit smoking cold turkey my first time (for 8 years), the first 3 days were super easy. The first 30 days were a piece of cake. Why? Was I not addicted? Heck no, I was very addicted to smoking at the time before I stopped. But I had very strong desire to stop, and I did. It was easy.

The second (and third) time I went cold turkey, it wasn't all that strong of a desire to quit. Those times, the first 3 days were very clear to me that I was addicted, but still not all that challenging to not use. The 30 day period was far easier, but I did keep wanting one last puff. In all times I went cold turkey, after 30 days, I really had no desire to return to smoking anytime soon. That I did makes for argument that I must be heavily addicted. I laugh at such notions and question intellectual prowess of such people, feeling confident they barely understand what makes for addiction.

With vaping and idea of going cold turkey, I imagine the 3 day period to be (at worst) a little challenging, but never agonizing. I imagine the 30 day period to be piece of cake. And after that just be a case of wondering how happy am I, really, with cessation / abstinence. The buzz from "being liberated" wears off after awhile, and as long as I'm on planet earth, and there are umpteen million things that are seemingly okay to be addicted to (i.e. work), then really, I see using nicotine as one of the lamest things to point out as an addiction for anyone to be concerned about.

I cannot believe it. Any links?

The problem with links is who did the study, and what was their agenda. Also most equate nicotine, tobacco, and smoking as being all the same.

So here a link about how nicotine ... a-er tobacco ... ah- I mean smoking effects the brain.
Science is conclusive: Tobacco increases work capacity - Klaus K blog

Seems like no one wants to do a study on just "nicotine", because they don't wanna know!

Here's an interesting link for you.
Nicotine, the Wonder Drug? | DiscoverMagazine.com

But the bottom line is that we need to delete the words tobacco and smoking if we want to study nicotine.

You'll get a lot of opinions on this subject...

And the only common thread among them is everyone thinks their experience applies to all.
And that is the only thing that is totally and completely wrong.

So just ignore every answer you get on this thread.
    Except mine, of course.

I truly believe that it was some of the other chemicals added to tobacco cigarettes that kept me addicted for 31+ years. The nicotine in vaping was so easy for me to drop, I started at 18, then 12, now 6 and never even remotely felt anything like when trying to cut out tobacco. Honestly, I've had to wonder the past 18 months if the people selling the liquids I'm buying are simply lying and there is no nicotine in them at all as I never have gotten any kind of buzz (like smoking for the first time) nor any calming effect of the Nicotine like I used to get with cigarettes. I can be all anxious and up in arms about something, I'll start to vape and won't get that same calming effect I used to get with tobacco cigarettes.

Yup, the more I think about it, the more I believe it was all the other crap that they put into tobacco cigarettes that was keeping me addicted. It's more of a mental thing for me now than any sort of physical thing with vaping. I think / I know I could drop to 0 Nic but then my mind tells me, why bother vaping at all if you're going to vape 0 nic liquids. It's one of those things where you think that maybe you're wrong and the nic levels you do ingest is doing something but your not observing it so just keep doing it just in case. Never the less, I could go down to 3 but why? I hardly vape much at all unless I've been consuming alcohol in which case I can vape out a tank in a night of drinking.
