No I can see the connection itself wiggle around when I move the cable. Really loose. HDMI2 is solid.

Ah-so grasshopper... well, time to break out the small phillips head and the soldering iron? Get the back off of it, and you can probably see where the problem is...

Heh, first thot came to mind. :) But seemed easier just to get a switch and forget out that port! But guess not.
Thing is, it'll go days before it acts up. And a pretty easy fix but it requires standing up! :(
Just that it's throwing me that a switch won't work.

Don't need sound on the server. :) The DVI works fine for that. There is no hdmi out on the tv. Only in. Now the main TV has an hdmi out. That's what I ran the cable to for this tv. (Won't work if I try to use an hdmi in port from the main tv)

So essentially, this tv is a server monitor, a third computer monitor and a tv. All of which work fine except for the hdmi 1 being flaky for the last few months. (I can just change source with the the tv remote)

By the way, tried 2 switches, same result. Like I said, I found it odd that you're supposed to plug an out port into an in port on the tv. But assumed it was only a pass thru anyway.

All I can tell you is a Matrix switch will allow you to run 2 to 4 or even more (depending on the switch) outs to the display device and configure those inputs as you see fit based on the display device resolution, etc .. HDMI Active cables are uni-directional. Passive cables are bi-directional .. Using HDMI the picture will be perfect up to the point where there's not enough signal to create the image .. thus, if your getting no signal at all, not enough data is coming thru .. that's why I suggested an amplified Matrix switch .. otherwise, I got nothin' .. :)

Also, TV HDMI inputs are notoriously fragile, especially if your HDMI cable is putting any stress on the input by weight, etc .. unfortunately, the repair usually requires replacing the main board in many TV's .. more expensive than a new TV in most cases .. the shorted TV HDMI input could just need a few pins re-soldered, for which you'd just remove the back of the set and test the pins with a continuity tester and re-solder as needed, if you're comfortable with that ..

I don't remember if it was here on the porch...or in the porch HO......we had a discussion about jeans in the past being so much more flattering to a woman's derriere than what's on the market today...It would appear that Levi has heard our sighs, moans and complaints....;)

Editor-Tested: Jeans That Promise to Flatter All Butts? 4 InStyle Staffers Try Them On | XFINITY Lifestyle Blog by Comcast

Just one little problem....I went to the site named.....out of stock in every size except one... and that in white.....and price was considerably more than quoted in the article. I'm sighing again....even if they were available, I'm just not up to paying over $125.00 a pair...

Gotcha, unc. Tanx!!
Yeah the main tv cable is about 25' long and heavy. I'm sure that's what did the damage since that port is horizontal. The computer cable is about... 10' but not quite as heavy as well as being a vertical port so able to take more.
The 2 switches I tried just have a 6 or 8" pigtail so not sure if that is enough (added to the original cables) to throw it off but makes sense. Not to mention pluging the switch into the cable just adds more resistance which may have just broke the camel's back.

I'm assuming the "out" cable you plug into the hdmi in is just labeled for those who don't think about stuff like that. Dunno why they don't say "tv" instead of out but I digress. Making them uni directional seems bizarre.

Geez I wouldn't be up for that either, can get ~6-7 pair of Wranglers at wallyworld for that...

Besides, my derriere couldn't stand to be much flatter. :D I think I'm starting to get an ever worsening case of age-related noassatol.

Changed up juice... lol vaping one of my diy... equal parts custard, vanilla, and root beer... nice vanilla custard inhale with a hint of root beer on the exhale... thinking about upping the root beer on the next batch to bring it out more.
That sounds really good Jb; might have to give that one a go.
My selection of DIY presently is Eggnog w/Brandy; Vanilla Custard w/Kaluaha; Pistachio nuts, which sounds strange but I really like Pistachio Nuts and can't eat them anymore but like the Vape:D:ohmy:.

Ok, riddle me this, oh great guru's uv da forum...

Have a TV with two HDMI in ports. (worked fine for years)
One port (HDMI 1) getting shaky. That is, cutting out, clipping, whatever u wanna call it. Have to wiggle the cable to get it back working.

Now, I obviously need two ports One for tv (from main tv), one for monitor. (HDMI 2 works fine for monitor)

Got a switch. Plugged into hdmi 2. Nope. No video at all. Selecting either cable on the switch does nothing video wise. I can select source with the remote but hdmi 2 doesn't even show up with it plugged in.

Since both are marked "input" For the tv side I'm assuming I need a 2 (or more) in ports and instead of an out port... another in port "instead" of the outport. However, doesn't seem to be any such animal.

Or am I just completely insane? (hmm... just answered my own question on that last sentence)
Something's probably dirty. Try some contact cleaner pray or alcohol. Might try replacing the cable. HDMI negotiates between source qnd display. If anything interupts this negotiation or isn't the correct standard it won't work. If you want to relace the cables the beat place is monoprice.com. You don't need to spend a lot if money for a decent. HDMI cable. It's digital, either on on off, anything else is BS.

Good Morning, not doing so good today this is the worst my leg has felt since I did this. Definately going in on Monday.
Omaha Omaha I think the 8' quater back is going to win if Denver can't hurt a few guys.
Sorry to hear the your leg isn't healing on it's own, and good idea to go off to the Dr. on Monday. Hope they can help you.
Yes if Denver doesn't play "D" like they did against the Pats I also think they will lose. But as long as we have a good game; it will be fun. Enjoy the game

Tanks, Unc. But I believe HDMI is only one way. The computer is obviously an out and the main tv has a few hdmi ports. 3 in and one... out! That's what works this tv. (cables would be bi-directional)
Oh, and this tv also has a dvi port which goes to the server. So even replacing the tv would be an effort in futility it seems.
HDMI is. Definitely not one way. See previous post. :);)

That's what I always thot. But My main tv has 4 hdmi ports. 3 marked in, one marked out. If I try to cable to my aux tv... only the one marked out will work. Cable's yes. Ports... I dunno about that.

Ok. Are there nd screws on either side of the connector. If not it's just supported by connection to the I/O board. Hate to ay this but, might actually benefit from a trip to the shop. If there are screws see if they're tight.

Yes. There are different ports for in and out but, they still aren't one way. Negotiation is required between output and input. It's part of the spec. :)

Glad you are going in to get it looked at. Hope it's not a floating chip.

You have been getting much better advice than I would be able to give you... I would get out the superglue and some sort of something to take the weight off the cable. Probably a block of dectorative wood I could staple or tape the cord onto.

Thot o' that too. :D Can't see behind it so anything wood werk. Like I say it only acts up now and then. like when you're watching somethin' critical. Rarely during commercials. ;)
But I figgered a switch would be da easy way out. No such luck. But, such is my luck!
