Kinda like turnip or mustard greens. Only Collards.

That explains my lack of knowledge on collards ... don't eat turnips or mustard greens either. But I do know what a turnip is. :D

True, we don't chop up innards and mix em with stuff and fry it and call it scrapple!

Now you're finally talking about something good to eat. But it has to be Philadelphia Habberset scrapple ... nothing else compares to it.

Scrapple? Oh, u meen spam, :D

Nope spam and scrapple ain't the same. Nope not. But both are stocked in our house regularly. Ya'all keep your collards, give me some good processed meat by products and maybe a bit of sawdust too.

Yeah, she really is... in some instances, I did manage to get pretty lucky in the lottery of life. :)

And likewise fer her (and da porches)!

Yeah, it is... I think of it more as a cross between a rodent and a beaver. It really ain't that bad though... there was a restaurant in Louisiana that was serving it as a "Louisiana Delicacy" for a while, but I'm not sure if they're still around or not..

Hey, 'gator balls were da local ragin Cajun rage (aka quasi-Everglades influence) new thang a while back. T'was'nt ' til folk started to appreciate da batter used, as opposed to texture, taste and tourist boredom... Chicks rule!!!

Well, now that I'm back from all my errands and in the house for the remainder of the day, the rain has started in earnest.....no gardening today, but a nap is sounding real good right about now.

Kinda envious in dat I really want to have my '99 Tahoe detailed prior to da Odyssey. Got tired of waitin' fer some raindrops to flush da atmosphere of da pollen and rinsin' da green tint off everything. So I upped da chances of da same by doin' a power wash at da...

... alas, alone...

I know, we gotta be careful what we ask fer (re recent LA & TX challenges)...

Never had fresh ay sparygus.

Oh my, your taste buds' loss! If dey ever savor sum phresh grilled/roasted ones, dey're gonna be soooo disappointed wid your non-adventurous nature! Plus dey'll remind ya what dey had when ya tinkle da next morn (just nature's lil' way oph what ya enjoyed...)

Ya know what's funny? My boy turned down ice cream when he was like 2 years old, cuz he wanted more brussel sprouts. What kid does that?

A keeper!

Of course nowadays at 25 ya can't get him to touch 'em.

Yepper, beer can do dat to ya... (don't ask...)

yummmmm wonder how long it'll take me to walk to Houston??

Ummm, just a SWAG... half as long as walkin' back...

'Specially if ya cook like Justin Wilson... "a l'il wine for da sauce... a l'il wine for da cook!"

I LOVED dat guy!!!

My absolute, totally and forever favorite TV celebrity!! I challenge y'all to name a TV star/role dat would change my mind...

Best way! I like my chicken sittin on the bottom of the pan with the oil bout 1/2 way up the chicken.

speakin of soakin chicken in buttermilk........add about a cup or so of frank's red hot to it first, then marinate for a few hours......omggggggggg yummy!

love the flavor of franks. It's cayenne based. I don't get along with anything using tobasco chiles. Plus I like that Frank's is more flavor than hot. I've even eaten it on crackers. Wuzn't easy either, it kept drippin through the holes

OK, dat dun proves it; you're a long lost Sis due to a past pleasureful tribal debauchery! dna be damned...

'spargras canned is bilge barf. fresh or frozen is heaven. specially with lemon butter or hollandaise sauce. we had a huge patch when I was growing up, and in the spring my sweat would smell like asparagus. need I say I ate a lot?

Nuttin' like phresh picked 'spears!!

I got a girl friend that gets the same way. I love em. Girl friend as in female friend. ;)

What do ya do when you're in a hole? Quit diggin'...

Hahaha! Da wife tries to kill me sometimes... she'll grab a banana on the way out the door and then eat the thing in tha car! I usually vape up a storm at that point to try and cover up da stench

Kaez, wid ya Bro!

My bride has a 'nanner and yogurt each morn. Thankfully, most morns I'm still under da covers.

BTW, down here, don't get caught on a fishin' boat wid a 'nanner... ya might become chum (and not as in friend)...

I like it every way I can get it!

Since I didn't quote your quote... regardless, either way...

Us northerners don't eat the same foods as you southerners. Grits and collards ain't part of our normal vocabulary.

Best fried chicken I ever ate was my grammas, and believe me she didn't have no deep fryer. Pretty sure she fried it in lard, and it was in a skillet.

Yepper, lard, cast iron skillet and lotsa GranMommy's luv... heavenly...

Black eyed peas are VILE !!!

Veggie or da band?

Pencil size is by far the best.

Only better is a buddy of mine lives next to a salt marsh and aspygrassy grows wild. Now that's some good stuff.!

Da pencils have no real flav. Will agree wid da wild! Da only kind better are da mature white spears (no/minimal sun exposure)...

Be safe & enjoy the trip, David! Stop & smell the roses, it makes for a pleasant trip! Happiest of birthdays to your amazing Dad!

Thanks, yep, he is.

But sightseeing isn't much fun solo. Pat (wife) has to stay home as there's only us to see to her mom - who just turned 93 in January. So I tend to just ignore the adage about it being the journey and not the destination...

Made it to Needless CA for tonight's stop, "short" 4 - 5 hours tomorrow and I'll be there.

Then a good while later I went to see Dune at the movies.

Been a Herbert and Dune fan since, well, almost forever. The original film of Dune, the one with Sting in it, was a herculean dud, imo. Some years later, many years later, I guess, SyFy did a version that was actually pretty good.

Agreed. Me too but, damn it was sure fun! ;)

The 60's? Yeah, I think they were fun, but hard to recall...

Mmmmm shrimp grits.

Whew, I thought you were after shrimp guts!

Nite all :)

There's different varieties?
The only other thing that I absolutely refuse to eat is bananas... even the smell of those almost makes me retch...

Bananas split longways into halves. Generous amount of peanut butter slathered on each piece. Homemade mayonnaise slathered on top of that. U-m-m-m-m-m-m good!

Yep, and grits are a southern thing too. Northerners jes dunt no how to cookem.
Now that's not true. Quaker puts directions on the side of the box so it's easy, like cooking oatmeal.
