I remember reading a lot of articles on how useless surge protectors are.
I do believe that's why my daughter always insisted all computer, and televisions were to be turned off and unplugged whenever she heard the first bit of thunder. I even caught the dickens for using a phone during a storm...;)

Use a lot of the heavy duty ones and they work.
I have so many in my hidey hole that if I get a big surge it will trip the breaker and still not hurt my computer and such.
The regular outlets in your home are just 2 big parallel circuits so anywhere you plug in a surge protector helps to protect other receptacles as well.

What a miserable combination, pain AND helplessness. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
First thing that came to mind was peeking around corners. But, the focus is way to close to be of any use (except for maybe what it's meant for).
Super po'd right now. Looks like a lightening strike nearby took out the battery on my laptop this morning. The battery is internal. Battery symbol shows no battery detected. Ugh x12, & no cookies for my surge protector.
NO!!!!! I'm with Mama Tried. There is so life without the internet.

Wait. What are you using now? Since you're online, you must have more than one computer, right?

Yep. Except it was 5am, I was dead asleep when that crack woke me up. I unplugged it immediately since it's right next to my bed. Turned on the light, checked everything else plugged into the same protector. Laptop is the only thing damaged.

The laptop works, but has to be plugged in to work. The battery is empty & the computer can't even detect it. I also have a phone & just got a tablet for Christmas. My laptop is huge & weighs 9 lbs. I got the tablet for mobility, when I want something bigger than my phone, but not up to lugging the laptop.

Oh that stinks hun, sorry to hear that. Can someone just open it up and change the batt? You probably don't know that huh? lol Just saw where you said it does work if plugged in, that's great. I leave mine plugged in all the time, cuz the batt don't last long

I had one that was about 200.00 in the late 90's it was supposed to completely stop any type of surge. Never had reason to try it out.

RIP Abe Vigoda! Loved him on Barney Miller and of course The Godfather

Not to preach to the choir but, I would never be without renters insurance. It really is "cheap" insurance. ;)
Totally agree....I always thought I couldn't afford it. When I finally looked into it.....it was like 3.00 for 6 months added in with my car insurance. That was a flat 25,000 in coverage. Kinda late now, but worth checking into.
