Not too long ago I regaled you all with memories of my time as a roller skating car hop

.....hoping that more of you would begin to tell us some of your stories as well. Some of you have.....I'd love to see more. How else can we begin to really know each other?
a couple of days ago I posted Bojangles and a clip of the actual Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Somebody else posted another video by someone else doing the same song. It was written by Jerry Jeff Walker and while he used the name Bojangles, the character in the song was fictional. There have been many cover recordings of that song, but the one I remember most, and which is a special memory for me was done by Sammy Davis Jr.
Sammy was appearing at Harrahs Reno, and one of the guys in the house band told him about a non-profit juvenile drug rehab that was working hard to help his son. Sammy picked up the phone and the calls went out. The Coliseum was booked for Sunday afternoon, the publicity was taken care of and on Sunday.....every entertainer, big room or lounge act in the Reno-Tahoe area showed up to perform. They'd worked sets and shows late into Saturday, were appearing for free.....and they all came. There were even a couple who weren't appearing anywhere but owned homes in the Tahoe area and at the time were in residence there. Sammy opened that show with Bojangles. All proceeds went to Omega House..... I know how this all came about....and I went to that afternoon show because.....my husband was the director of that rehab for the kids.
