the animal behaviorist, discovered that gentle pressure was calming to animals. She tried it on herself for her intense anxieties, and it worked.
I'm not real claustrophobic, but I am just a little and especially when it comes to clothes. Can't have anything tight, makes me more anxious....even like a crew neck t-shirt......I'm always pulling at the neck. I'd feel like I couldn't breathe in a turtle neck. So I'm like Iffy, loose is better, or as close as I can get to nuttin without scarring folks for life! Usually that is shorts and a tank top

It is not just the tightness, it is also the feeling of weight. Swaddling restricts movement, and the baby's startle reflex is so dominant that swaddling prevents the baby from becoming alert because of the startle reflex.

It rained a half-inch last night, so not as bad as initially predicted. I had a few telephone conversations in my sleep last night, was very satisfied with my assertiveness. Glad that I live alone. Then remembered that I wasn't wearing my HA's but understood everything the callers said (and maybe my own voice was muffled?). Those dreams stopped.

Jup, works great for some, but for me weight or tight would make me more anxious, like I wanted to just flee.

Glad the storm wasn't as bad as you thought! Hope the dream of you hearing w/o aids is a prophetic one! :)

Day 1 of exile complete, miss my puppy dog, miss the wife too, but still enjoying the silence, start new job tomorrow

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.

Good luck Russel ... hope all goes well.

Sleep is a wonderful, precious thing. Relish it!

Did you watch the clouds and pick out all the shapes? I noticed that if I lay on the ground and stare at the clouds long enough, I start to lose my sense of what's up and what's down. I start to feel like I'm going to fall off the earth.

Well, no wonder after 14 years! A fresh, new start
Sleep has been glorious here for the past couple of days. Last night I actually slept for 8 straight hours without getting up.........nothing short of a miracle.

Nope, didn't watch the clouds. I was too busy trying to breathe. :p Of course, my little animals were hovering trying to figure out what hell Mama was doing laid out of the ground.

Oooh, I don't like tight or heavy. I can't sleep with heavy covers. It just doesn't work for me. I feel like I'm smothering. I have to wear my shirt tucked in for work. Sometimes after everybody else is gone and it's just the crew, I untuck it so I can be free!!

A heavy quilt feels good as long as it's cold enough for one. And, as long as it does not restrict my feet.

My feet yearn to be free!
If I am having a restless night, I just use my weighted blanket from chest to hips. But the prazocin is helping, too.

Other than the expense, I don't mind them. Nice that thunder doesn't bother me, and other situations where excessive noise is problematic. Lots of advantages to hearing loss, just don't want it to get worse.

Lol!!! I think I'm ready. I'm officially able to order from the Senior menu. Why don't we get a Senior discount on ejuice?!?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920AZ using Tapatalk
Hey! Welcome aboard. My senior discount is making my own. I just turned a guy onto vaping and he's spending big bucks on premium juices. He's young and will learn soon enough. Happy to have you on the porch.

I'm surprised no one has weighed in on the Gorilla / Small Child Invades Area saga .. I heard (unconfirmed) that the child's parents are planning to Sue the Zoo .. of course, if that happens, I don't suppose it would be a shock ..

Personally, I would place the parent and/or parents in stocks and have them publicly flogged .. and, call me old fashioned, but not a one of the yelling and hysterical crowd, including the parent/parents, had the spine to attempt to rescue the child ..

From the little that I saw in the coverage of this, it appeared to me that the gorilla was actually attempting to protect the child... and yet, they ended the gorilla's life. I am not one to usually mourn the life of an animal, but I do not believe in senseless killing, either. In my opinion, an animal should only be killed for food, in self defense, or because it is sick/injured and cannot be healed. This particular gorilla was enclosed in his own environment and the child invaded its space. The gorilla should not have had to pay the price for the negligence of the child's parents...

While I find it sad that the gorilla was put down, I can't say that I have any beef with the folks at the Zoo quickly assessing and deciding that was the best course of action .. it did not appear that the gorilla was doing mortal harm, yet things can change fast ..

Some months back, I watched a documentary called "Blackfish" .. about Orca's in captivity in Sea World locations .. which, really, in some ways, changed my way of thinking as it relates to the Human fascination of animals held captive ..

What precedes the rediscovery of swaddling is that Temple Grandin, the animal behaviorist, discovered that gentle pressure was calming to animals. She tried it on herself for her intense anxieties, and it worked. The discovery went on to the weighted blankets I was discussing several weeks ago, then back to animals with the thundershirt.

Interesting info. Thanx!

I probably should have been more clear in my original response. I do not hold it against the Zoo personnel; I'm sure that it was a stressful situation, and that they had their reasons for not just using a tranquilizer. I'd have rather seen the parent go into the enclosure for a well-deserved beating from the gorilla... If, in fact, the parents do intend to sue the zoo, I hope that it gets promptly thrown out of court. Even better, the judge should have the parents brought up on charges for neglect.

I've not seen that documentary. I will have to look for it and see it for myself. I've never really understood the fascination of viewing animals in captivity. I grew up out in the country and would much rather see them "in the wild".

Is the new Roots starting tonight? Telling my husband to check now; Central time here, probably already started, too.

Welcome before I forget. Yep, Roots started last night. Like the others I have set the DVR to record it. I missed the first half of episode one so I'm hoping they'll repeat it like normal. Anything on A&E ggroup of channels normally does. For those interested it's playing both on A&E and Lifetime. Hopefully you get one or the other.
