Much catchin' up to do from the weekends postings...
Congratulations to
@WhiteHighlights on your 3 year Vaperversary!! WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!
Happy Birthday,
@MikeE3 !!! Best wishes for many, many more!!
As a guy that "came up" using the old school safety razor, since besides a really old school straight razor, that's all there was back when the fuzz started around 12 or 13 .. I hated those implements of Torquemada .. pure torture and slapping on some Aqua Velva just made it worse .. (after shave was an antiseptic designed to sterilize those abrasions) .. I celebrated the day in the 1960's when the modern razor came out ..
I'd just as soon use a depilatory or get a face wax job ..

(I wonder why that's never caught on .. ??) ..
Hats off to you ..
I continue to lack the testicular fortitude to attempt the use of a straight razor. Anyone who can use one of those has my deepest respect! As for aftershave, my go-to favorite is Pinaud's Clubman. Second favorite is a Bay Rum, though I'm still trying to decide which one I actually like best. Either way, my face usually gets a wipe-down with a cotton pad that's been soaked with witch hazel before any aftershave is applied.
That was just in reference to your statement about losing quotes.
Have tried at least five electric shavers.. no go due to pizz poor shave and facial irritation! Dey say to give 'em at least a two week face break-in period; noper, no go. My latest one has da trim option, great fer 'stache and side-burn trimming; shaving, no way!
Ever so much miss da ol' Schick dual blade inserts wid plastic de-whisker/blade cleaner pusher! Thinking of going back to da ol' Gillette style double edge safety butterfly system dat I bled from on my first peach-fuzz shave (thank goodness fer my Dad's styptic pencil).
Currently using cheap dual blade disposables... once a week...
Just gotta love/hate Madison Avenue ads...
Kaez, primo gear ya got dere!
BTW, ladies, wanna pizz ophph your ol' man, use his razor. Oh, and we
do know if ya used it!
Thank you, Sir. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the 'lectric razors, either. I have one, and even after giving it a solid month to "break-in my face", it still isn't something that I really want to use. I just keep it handy for quick shaves when I just don't have the time to do it right.
I'm lovin' my butterfly razors, though. The trick is to find the right blades. Check Amazon... I managed to find sampler packs that had several different blade manufacturers. Here is the pack I ordered:
Blade Sampler Perfect for finding a blade that works for you. I settled on Feather blades in the black package (they also have a yellow). It's worth it to try several different blades, because not all blades are created equal, and everyone's face is different.
A friend of ours thought green bell peppers were 'too hot/spice' to eat. Might have thought he took a big bite of a Jalapeño when he bit into one.
Sure enough people are different ... I pulled out my old Gillette double edge razors a few years ago when I heard about the cult that has grown around them. Yikes! No way I'll go back to them, it was like dragging a piece of sandpaper across my face. No thanks, I'll take the smooth shave of a 5 bladed modern cartridge any day.
I'm a brush and lather guy too. Been using that combo for years and years. I inherited a couple straight edge razors from Janet's father. He kept them so sharp with a strop. But no way I'm getting them near my face. I started to once and chickened out.
I asked my barber how to learn to use one. He said when you can remove all the fuzz from a peach without nicking the skin, you're ready to do your face.
I knew a guy like that... if you put a sprinkling of ground black pepper on his food, it suddenly became inedible to him... green bell pepper is a even milder than that, though. Poor guy...
I decided to use the double edged more as a tribute to my father-in-law than for any other reason. Until the day he died, he shaved every day with that razor. For me, personally, it is a much smoother shave than I've ever had. Probably because, using that razor and doing the whole brush and lather ritual, it causes one to slow down and take their time. I had to pay more attention to what I was doing, and in which directions do the hairs grow. Now, I can shave with nearly zero nicks, and be completely smooth with two passes. One with the grain, and one across the grain. Never against, though... I learned that lesson quickly!
Someday, I'd like to try a straight razor... someday... I'd like to... I'm in no rush, and I definitely won't feel like less of a man if I never do...

Those things are very scary!
Psst... u dew no dey iz adjustable, right? And ya gotta close em tight, right? I set mine at 7.
The two that I have in the pic that I posted. The one on the right is adjustable; the one on the left is not. I tend to use the adjustable more often... that's the one that Pop actually had in his ba
throom.
Double edged razor blade ... who has one of these? Lay your blade along the "V" and bring back that 'razor' edge.
Nope I didn't use it myself. It was my Dad's ... I suppose things really were tough during the depression.
Never seen one of those before!

Things would have to get
really tight before I'd resort to trying to sharpen my own razor blades... I'm good with sharpening knives, but I don't drag those across my face!

Wow!! I'm learnin' all kinds of stuff today!! Interestin' little contraption, but in this day and age, I'll just toss the blade and
throw in a new one...
New update - daughter is doing very well! Started on liquid diet and so happy, hasn't eaten anything since Monday. Today she gets to have soft foods and see if she tolerates it. Most of the tubes are gone! She was watching TV and texting a bit. I slept so well last nite! Hugs to you all
