I love webcam sites. I've seen the eagles, hummingbirds and puppies. Guess it satisfies the "Peeping Tom" in me.

Oh, oh ... I didn't recognize it as you with the 'toes'.

You would not believe the people that have asked me where my toes have gone. Guess I need a new footsie pic. When people see toes and rats, I guess they think of me. Guess it's better than pit bulls and guano.

Where Willie? I believe I am getting my "grove" back.

Sort of like you. . . in spurts.

Cavenerd, I was hearing Comfortably Numb on one of your posts. There is a bunch of music in my head. No wonder there is no room for "intelligence" and "common sense". heehee

Ummm... Does anyone here have a friend or a family member with a hoarding problem? Dealing with one in my life and can't get past the denial that there is a problem, let alone get to the next step - trying to noodge them toward talking to a professional about it. This has been going on for a long time but since retirement set in the problem is rapidly escalating. (Nothing to do... Shopping!!!) Not just about shopping either. There is only so much space in their house but that reality is not setting in.

If y'all think this is a more appropriate topic for Wellness Wrecked & Bonkers I'll just shush up and move it over there.

I can say that I probably "started" being in idiot at 13. Some reports place me nearing the possible end of that phase. Some reports, particularly GF's, place me at "no end in sight". :)

I don't regret much of anything, but the regrets I carry today all involve hurting someone when I didn't need to do so or hurting someone and not even realizing they were hurt... :(
Yeh but, he was a really nice guy, could have called the cops and never did, could have called the school and never did and most importantly could have called our parents and never did. Everybody knew the Bode's home phone number. I was number 5 of 6 and all the boys (5 of us) with maybe the exception of my little brother, moma's boy, we're c r e t i n s! Cops called us by name when we got in trouble and would just take us home and watch my mom wump us.

Sent while sitting on my busted ..... Stay off the ice if you can't skate. I can't and didn't.

My mother in law was almost there. Thank God for thrift stores or she'd be broke right now. She had one closet just for her plastic wear, you know tupperware and glad packs. I mean absolutely full. I'm not going to have to buy glad storage containers again in my life. Only problem is I'm not going to keep a closet full of plastic storage containers. Unfortunately I would rather have her back the way she was then the way she is now. She's in memory care at an assisted living facility.

Thankfully not - unless you count books and vape gear...

But maybe sit them down in front of a marathon session of "hoarders" for therapy?

Nothing wrong w/ posting it here. Just wish I had a clue of something to offer as a suggestion. Good luck.

Ya know... besides the 'gross' indicators of a hoarding problem - too much stuff everywhere, compulsive shopping issues... - I did not know until recently that there is a significant connection to memory deficit issues that goes along with hoarding behavior. Big problem with my friend here on that level. It's not that the memory problems are secondary to having so much stuff you can't remember where anything is, it's part of the overall brain function problems going on in a person who has a hoarding problem.

For anyone else affected by hoarding or dealing with someone with the problem this site is an excellent read with a lot of information you may not have known: The International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) - Hoarding Center Reading through the issues hoarders have with social interaction and "control" issues over the chaos of their stuff sure provided a lot of insight into the relationship dynamics going on here.

But there's that "big rock" just sitting there: talking to them about a problem they are in rigid denial even exists. :(

P.S. Not only an excess of packs of new, unopened plastic storage containers here, now saving every plastic deli or take-out container that comes in the house. I pull them out of the dishwasher and drawers and put them in the recycle bin. She takes them back out.

Aw geeze, that's a tough one. Although generally the same problem, everyone is different. I don't know that there's a simple answer to this one. Is this a relative? Have you done any research on the net? Do you have any support with this? I think there's even a show about hoarding that maybe you can pick up some info from. And I guess you can take heart that there are worse things than hoarding although if there is filth involved it could be pretty serious. Hope you can find the answers you're looking for.

My daughter is also dealing with someone that has a hoarding issue. Her mother in law buys bags of stuff from Goodwill, pays by the pound. Mother in law then brings stuff to my daughter's house. Useless junk, but mother in law is convinced that there are some treasures buried in those bags. Mother in law's house is severely piled up with stuff. Her hubby has tried talking to his mom but hasn't made any progress. Daughter and hubby are worried about how they're going to deal with this when they have a baby and mother in law will want baby to come to her house. :(

They really need to put a lid on that or she will attempt to take over their home as well. That does happen. Read that info on the IOCDF web site about how hoarders do not allow people living with them to have their own private space within the home and the stress that causes. In extreme cases they will also try to take over other peoples homes and apartments as well with the spillover. "Control" seems to be a peculiar word to apply here, but that's what it's about.
