Thanks Willie. For more than just the music...

Memories excellently told... Thanx, Willie!

Oh, some days clarity is better than others and I just pound away at the keys .. in some ways, it's almost a catharsis .. in other ways, days long gone by and never to be re-lived are bitter sweet, for all of us .. but I will say I am always always glad to see someone share a story or a memory, especially the memories .. the good, the bad or the ugly .. it seems like we used to do a lot more of that here ..

You know what Willie I bet sitting down and talking to you would be just as amazing as you sitting down with with BB King for a guy like me. You've got some amazing stories in those brain cells that have been kept intact. Again all I can say is WOW. White Willie I like that.

I always preferred Cool Breeze, myself .. :) .. and, believe it or not, Sinatra was Kings absolute favorite ...

The military ruined my grammar skills - they live in acronamia (new word of the day) and now actually learning how to type out full words is taxing on the mind... :D
Oh, you mean dillifaf, snafu, fubar, wetsup, kyfho, gigo, usarmy, tanstaafl, and all the other 4 letter words I used to have written on my helmet cover? I used to have dilligaf right under my rank insig. Had a Maj. ask me if my name was dilligaf? I said " Yes Sir" My squad fell over laughing as he spent the rest of the convoy briefing calling me SGT. Dilligaf. There's our level of Military Intelligence. Far be it from me to correct an Officer.

Was he my friend .. ? Well, no, not in the sense of Friendship .. but we were two Gypsies with a common interest and some sort of slight Karmic Bond .. So, Salute to "The Beale Street Blues Boy" .. RIP

And here we were just looking for some tunes :)

Thanks for the insight into his person, not just his music!

Wow UW, what an awesome story. Thank you for sharing. You have lead quite a life, highs and lows all included.

I am game for the Red Nose. I will purchase one and plan on supporting this great cause on the 21st! And thanks for the great tunes, I always pull out my earphones and enjoy your music.

Sometime in the 1970's (my memory is fuzzy on many of the details due to various substances and lost brain cells) .. .. at any rate, I attended a small venue concert in Mississippi, it was either Yazoo City or Rosedale I think, with BB King headlining .. the club was much like the old school "Juke Joints" they used to call them ..

What a GREAT story! I will remember it always.

There's lots of racing on tonight and tomorrow night so I might be a little scarce. Everything is OK, I just really like the Charlotte series of races, twin 20 lap qualifiers then the truck race tonight. Allstar race tomorrow night. Next weekend is the Coca Cola 600.

I propose that on May 21st, a Marathon Day take place at "Deb's Den", "Deb's Place" .. with all that can participate wearing a purchased Red Nose in support of this cause .. the goal being to have a Midnight to Midnight gathering, with, of course, visitors changing throughout the 24 hour period .. it's just a dollar, but it's such a worthy cause ..

Red Nose Day | May 21st, 2015

I won't be home that night - but I'll try to 'Hangout' in the afternoon. I don't do mornings.

Yepper - know dilligaf. Twas my motto the last couple-few years of my job. Corp management was 'running amok' all the while giving themselves huge bonuses mean while salaries were frozen for the working class. After years of doing my best at the job - I just gave up.

Willie's story has inspired me to tell this story. Once upon a time on a galaxy far far away, I went to a Lifer's Banquet at Angola State Penitentiary. A local favorite New Orleans vocalist named, Germaine, (can't remember her last name) was part of the entertainment. Her musical backup was composed of all inmates. I was totally blown away by the talent that was on that makeshift stage!! At the same time, I was more than a little sad to think that all of that talent was sitting in jail instead of on the street practicing their craft.

I saw something else there equally as sad. They brought in four guys in wheelchairs who were lifers and just too ill to get around by themselves. I didn't see any guests with them...just their attendants, who were other inmates. I couldn't help myself. I got up and spoke to each one of them. One of them had a tumor that covered most of his face. It wasn't a pretty sight. One was blind. They expressed such gratitude that someone had actually come and spoke to them. It reminded me that everybody needs some kind of human contact.

The highlight of the banquet was when some of the inmates from New Orleans got up and started second line dancing. I get the chills just thinking about it. Shucks, I wanted to get up there and dance too!

That banquet was a pretty eye opening experience.

Nice music tribute to 'BB King' UW. It was Janet who got me listening to his music and appreciating it.

re: your bar alley story. Reminded me of mine.

I was coming out of church one Sunday and standing against a tree on driveway from the parking lot was a young girl of around 14-15 years old. She was holding a sign that said Mom and brother needed money for this months rent or they would be on the street. She wasn't a street urchin looking girl, dressed decent and all. I walked past her wondering if it was a scam. Got to my car and said - my gut says no - so I went back and gave her some money. When I got home to my nice house - I regretted not giving more. Went back but she was gone.
