Ken...one of my nephews, one daughter, two uncles all are partial to the same sex. I'm so very glad that they're ( all of them) no longer so ostracized. I knew the nephew and my daughter were when they were very young.
I see nothing wrong with it at all and i truly believe that all same-sex attracted people are born like that. They're not "bad" or perverted or anything, they just move to a different drum.
"No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family," Kennedy wrote. "In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than they once were."
"Their hope," Kennedy wrote, "is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right."
The issue has always been a matter of legality, much more so than whether or not anyone agrees or supports the lifestyle choice .. in fact, whether or not someone agrees and supports the issue is really irrelevant, IMO .. here's why ..
A marriage certificate allows married partners to easily prove their legal rights if challenged, for example in emergency situations. Another practical benefit of marriage is that it is a widely recognised legal relationship.
There are over 1,000 benefits, rights and protections available to married couples in federal law alone .. Benefits only available to married couples include hospital visitation during an illness, the option of filing a joint tax return to reduce a tax burden, access to family health coverage, US residency and family unification for partners from another country, and bereavement leave and inheritance rights if a partner dies .. Married couples also have access to protections if the relationship ends, such as child custody, spousal or child support, and an equitable division of property .. Married couples in the US armed forces are offered health
insurance and other benefits unavailable to domestic partners .. The Internal Revenue Service and the US Department of Labor also recognize married couples, for the purpose of granting tax, retirement and health insurance benefits .. The US federal government did not grant equivalent benefits to gay couples in civil unions or domestic partnerships ..
The opposition to Same Sex Marriage has always hinged on personal and Religious beliefs, and rarely, if ever, has taken into consideration the legal hurdles that existed prior to the Supreme Court decision ..
Another wall has fallen, and rightfully so ..
